I loved Jack🤩. Bring back Jack right now. We need someone different like him.
Honestly, he did really well. It may not be what the judges want from a vocalist in terms of style, but they should have given him a shot based on his ability- he did justice to the song.
He had a nice voice--wrong song choice. It didn't show his range and he didn't change it up.

They should have given this guy a chance. They are shameless, singing throughout his performance, chasing a bird around and not giving him a proper critique or respect at the end. He is a good guy with a good voice and 100% deserved a chance. This is the first episode and I’m already fed up with the judges.

I wish the judges would have just listened to him! I could barely hear him over all of their “backup” vocals……….darn. That would have made me so mad while performing.
This seems to be a great young man. Blessings to him and all his endeavors.
I loved watching his young man. He gave a great vocal as well as played the piano and really showed talent to me. I thought he was brushed off with very little consideration. First, the judges got up and performed themselves during HIS TIME, (not theirs) and after two said no Perry got up and made a fool of herself chancing a bird around. The way they dismissed him and their actions during his audition pissed me off big time.
Yeah it was a shame he didn’t go through. Honestly a solid voice. They have sent through much worse. Probably because he didn’t have a sob story

He was good and I am very surprised he was not chosen
It didn't feel like they really gave him a chance. He played well and had a nice voice. They could have held the bird and asked him for something different

Jack, we thought you did great! Not going to the next round means nothing! We know you have talent! All your Friends, Family and Fans love you! All your videos of you singing on Facebook, Instagram, etc. You can just see the talent and the love you put into your music. Anyone that can do their own backtracks, plus be the main singer on top of that is a talent in itself. Every musician/singer/performer is going to have naysayers from top to bottom. I literally looked up "American idol jack" just to find this video and say WTF! He was easily one of the best singers on the show that episode... I feel like if he had a sob story instead of a bird then he would've been given a chance, they only seem to let through people who have heartbreaking backstorys.. crazy
*BINGO!!* I assume the show does that for the publicity or to get viewers hooked on a certain singer. It's a shame. I'm sure there are singers that choose not to share their sob story. It shouldn't have an effect on whether they're put through to the next round or if they're even RESPECTFUL to the contestant!
you apparently aren't used to good sounding talent, this guy was pretty terrible... it was gimmicky, pitchy, and the runs made no sense

Screw this reality TV garbage. Jack is my next door neighbor and we couldn't be prouder of him for putting himself out there like this! He and his parents are wonderful people. Jack was singing at his house last year when I checked out this house before buying it and he certainly helped sell it! These judges are nobodies to my kids. Jack came over and sang with me and my boys the other weekend. This kid has a real shine to him and it's even more apparent in person than on TV.
Wow, GREAT comment! When I think of some of the singers they have put through in the past because they had a sad back story or because they schmoozed up to the judges, I'm disappointed that they didn't put Jack through to the next round! And it was really disrespectful and condescending when Katy went after that stray bird. Wish they would have asked him to sing another song. I LOVE doo-wop but maybe the song (and I really love "In the Still of the Night") WAS too "niche" for his audition. I read an article online that said people are slamming the judges for being rude. Maybe someone famous, a doo-wop singer, or fan, will reach out to him! Give him a hug for me! He was great!

Judges were so disrespectful here. They didn't even listen to him because they were dancing in the middle of his audition like a bunch of clowns. And then casually saying "It's a no for me" while chasing a bird around the set... Incredibly insensitive and rude.

They were not. They still have a show to shoot and they had an audition where the contestant literally couldn't hold a note, in the song...HE CHOSE. I mean... might as well make a moment of it

He has a voice. It so happen it was highlighted by the singing voice brouha ha of trio and what they heard are they own voice not the contestant.
I think the judges should of encouraged Jack to sing louder or had him lower his microphone...there was too much other distractions going on & they weren't coming from Jack!

The judges should not be acting up during any performance. Too many distractions. Jack was amazing. Bring him back.
They should have given him their undivided attention when they cut him (instead of chasing a bird around the studio 🙄). So disrespectful!

I have the same species of parrot (profile pic lol) and came looking for the video after someone mentioned him in a bird group. He's really good! I'm not American, but I think it's a shame that good singers get passed over if they aren't deemed marketable enough in spite of clear talent. I wasn't sure they were even really listening to him and seemed like they made up some BS to justify the 'no' they already decided they were going to give him. His vocals were on point. He's a kind, every-man kinda guy with an interesting quirk.
If he can learn to develop a persona for stage and use social media to drum up interest and market himself that way, he could make it. These shows just use you as a cash cow anyway and steal all your original songs. Try and make it off your own back on YT etc. Learn to do renditions of popular songs from computer games and TV shows in your own style to drum up interest from people and build up a following. It'll be hard and take a long time - years - but it is the only way to do it today.
There were way too many distractions for Jack while he was performing his song. I love all the judges but they could have let him sing the song without all the intrusions.
Jack has a great voice but I don’t think it’s mature enough for the competition he’ll have! 😢
They should have put him through to Hollywood though. To see what he could do. They let others go through who shouldn't have. But I agree he wouldn't of won the show. There is some amazing power house singers in. But still should have been put through.

He has a good tone but I really think he needs more experience. definitely has potential in the future. I was surprised how rude and dismissive Katy was here though. Seemed very disrespectful. He's only a 19 year old and barely an Adult. He deserved more respect is all I will say.

It was so rude how they dismissed this young man, each of them especially Katie, then Luke, and Lionel.....they could have been more professional in their demeanor and with their own critiques of him. This is one reason I can take or leave American Idol.

I quit watching AI a few years ago because of all of their "it's not right for AI" decisions. I looked this up because someone told me about it and it's the only AI audition I have watched this year and probably the only one I will watch, because if they turned this guy away, I know whole season would be a waste of my time. Every year they turn away great contestants because they don't like their kind of music. That's no excuse. AI has all contestants perform different types of music every week, so they would get their chance to show what they can do with other genres. If they have a great voice, let them through and let America decide. After all, that is the premise of the whole show, isn't it? Great performance. Bad move on the part of the judges.
American Idol is the last place I'd look to for a proper analysis of a singer.
Maybe the judges would have noticed his talent if they had been listening instead of trying to attract attention to themselves. How can they possibly be listening while they are busy cutting up for laughs? Very disrespectful. Same thing they did to Peter Lemonjello a few years back.
