Make sure you hit them right and hard, specially on the corners, this will make levelling them easier, don't bother grouting them afterwards, you need to be environmentally friendly and allow a few dandelions to grow, That's my tips .
as a garden landscaper i look at these videos for a laugh and this is up there with the best laugh of all. Some joke. where do I even start. I mean even spooning the sand out. for Christ's sake just tip the barrow but In any case he is doing a botch job. if using sand then it should be compacted and screeded on a compacted hard-core base. hopefully it was his own garden and God help anyone that employs these cowboys
As far as laying slabs goes, it wasn't terrible, but what was that teeny-tiny wall doing there? It was high enough to trap all the water run-off and to make a lovely trip-hazard, without actually doing anything useful. Just... why?!
My garden has that. No where for water to run off and is a hazard. And then it goes up to a diy raised garden I'm in the process of removing it all diy. Nightmare from last owners. It's like a pond when it rains
Depends on if levels allow, you could get away with it if the existing paving is much lower than 150mm from the damp course but if it’s within 100-150mm then the paving will have to come out and be replaced with the slabs. As long as the sub base underneath is good enough you could get away with it.
Not near enough whacked hardcore and blinding beforehand and far too deep sand. Mix cement into it 7-1 and then dampen with a water mist from a hose. Lay slabs without stepping in the sand and when they're all down cover with sheets of thin plywood and then pass over with a small whacker(,Large area ) small area just go across them all in all directions with a straight edge and rubber mallet the high spots.
😂😂 retaining wall, that's retaining water. Laying roofing tiles as hardcore. Must easily be the roughest slab laying I've seen to date and I've seen some belters
Roof tiles as hardcore Jesus!! At least mix in various other materials like old stone or brick chippings and mix in sharp sand to bind it. Mortar has to be wet with some body to it but not sloppy. Shouldn’t be laid on dry mix as they will move over time and rock.

We just been just been done over with the paving in the last week and the lost of alot of of money but sussed out what he did and we sacked him and we are going to get back money back god they are some cowboy that all they are
My garden has this. Back door leads to a patio which is retained by a brick wall and raises the whole garden. The patio is like a pond in rain and awful thanks to previous owners. In process of removing it diy
Rubber mallets are a relatively recent introduction, I still prefer the feel of a wooden beadle or club hammer handle, used correctly, nothing is damaged.
Yawnnnn this is pointless this man is giving himself hard work dump all the sand instead of shoveling the sand in make a screed level and screed it all then then walk it in or use a whacker plate to make the sand compact and then screed the sand level then lay your slabs with no whacking with a hammer lol
you don't lift flags like that or lay them that way ,are you trying ,to give everyone a bad back ,you are amateurs and you have no right doing this video you are trying to hurt people shameful.

Some top advice there!

They be sinking few weeks and allover the place rubber hammer and a bit of cement and water in that mix with a nice bed of muck
Always best to add cement with the sharp sand.
Dam right!
Are you afraid of a hurricane lifting 40mm slabs?
@@jimjones8208it’s a breeding ground for ants other wise.
I never knew the mallet had a metal handle.
Can you lay 2by2 council slabs on dry sand and cement. Allso what tool is he using please to tap them down with ?
that mix needs to be wetter theyll all be rocking by next week

Why am I WATCHING this?
Well.... it's definitely different...
Enough to make you weep!😂😂
I can see a fair degree of subsidence happening with these slabs..
+Majestic Twelve or your Ma, Twelve

Do you think it’s okay to build a slab over a paved surface for a house extension? Or do we have to remove the paving first
Dont take any advice from these cowboys this should be a video on how not to lay a patio

@@RGK147 Have they stopped grouting slabs now, I have noticed a few lately not leaving gaps, it grows plenty of grass in between the joints.

instaBlaster...
I wonder if he’s laying this for his horse to stand on 😂😂
😂😂hahahahaha😂😂
what I don't understand about this is if you can just tap the slab to level it...what happens when you walk on it?
If i stepped on any of those mate they would sink into the floor and fall out the opposite side of the world
Is it ok not to grout my slabs?
Why didnt he just pour the sand into the space instead of shovelling it.
Wetter mix and use a rubber mallet
lol
Rubber mallet for his head.

The slabs don’t look even at the start.
To me to you springs to mind🤪
you forgot a bucket of hay for the horse
where is the water going to go with the slabs up against the wall
Good point, would be good to put some drainage in the wall as well - maybe some PVC pipes every 2 to 3 meters.

Do not lay any patio like this!!!

Ué...porque o youtube me recomendou isso ? ;-;
He's ruining the slabs by hitting on them with a hard object. What happened to a using a mallet?
