    The white bits of slub in your yarn are defects, I would suggest removing them, it’s distracting from the cohesiveness of your knitting. Just my thought in how it looks.

    Your gift knit, if it's going to be worn and loved it needs to start with the best life. Unless she's in a very cool climate they can't wear it right now anyway so you have time to fix it.

    IMHO you need to fix your friend’s sweater. It isn’t hard to fix a hole or area and there are lots of RUclips videos on fixing holes (not sure what your issue is) or just rip it out and reknit. A sweater lasts a long time and the benefit of a handknit is that you can make it beautiful. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can fix or redo the sleeve 2nd time around. Chilly Dog has a video on how to fix holes @ the underarm that I use all the time. Good luck and great podcast!

    Like the Athens cardigan better but both are gorgeous! The 2 sweaters have very different gauges, being knit in seed stitch or in pattern even though they use similar yarn weights. Suggest you knit a swatch for the pattern you love most and if it doesn’t work out try swatching for the other pattern. I usually swatch before I buy a pattern as I’ve had too many issues getting gauge even when I use the yarn the pattern specifies. I often knit a different size to compensate for not getting gauge and get the fit I want. Enjoyed watching - first time seeing your podcast!

    I don't know that you need to rip out and reknit the sleeve, but I do think its worth taking out the patch job and trying again. If you're anything like me you were probably a little frantic and panicked the first time, and didn't do as seamless a patch as you could do if you do it in a relaxed and meticulous manner. The tension and twisting/pulling of the stitches is what makes it look more noticeable. The thicker gauge really works to your advantage to be able to get a much more seamless patch, if you take your time. Little Star CC has bunch of hole repair videos. Of course it's your choice, and I'm sure your friend would appreciate it either way. But I also know that if I was your friend I would say "its fine, it looks good," regardless of if I actually felt that way. I'm sure most people won't notice it if your friend walks by, but I strongly suspect you could do even better a second time around.

    In regards to your gauge swatch, I would be tempted to do another going up a needle size. Then check gauge on the new swatch and from there you can decide which fabric you prefer You can do some sweater math. I know Little big Knits did a podcast to explain this. Essentially you measure you’re stitches/ inch then multiply that by your desired chest circumference and ease you are wanting. That should give you the final stitch count when you split for sleeves. From there you find the size that best matches your math. Hope this helps.

  • @Kera.S.
    @Kera.S. 23 дня назад

    I would block the sleeve and see how it looks afterwards, but if it looks the same, I would rip back and re-knit it personally. But you have to do what's right for you and your timeline. Your friend is most likely not wanting to be picky because they aren't doing the work and asking for alot and knows it lol they seem like a good person and probably knit worthy therefore having it done correctly. Chalk it up to a lesson learned maybe 💙

  • @Alliee1221
    @Alliee1221 24 дня назад

    Instead of re-doing the entire sleeve, you could try cutting it, knitting a few rounds then grafting back the rest of the sleeve without the holes/mending.

    • @joyandknitting
      @joyandknitting 24 дня назад

      I did think about this! Once I get through the body and other sleeve, I'm going to re-evaluate :)

    • @Kera.S.
      @Kera.S. 23 дня назад

      That's a good idea. Put a lifeline in and if it doesn't work out and you have to re-knit it at least you have some experience with sweater surgery for the future that might work out on another project. Every mistake is a good learning opportunity.

    Wow can't believe all the comments to reknit the damaged sleeve. I think your patch work looks good. I'd leave it. I noticed your gray sweater although beautiful is not in your color palate. Just watched 'two purls in a pod' and they did it on color analysis for our skin tones. ruclips.net/video/mtWS31plEms/видео.htmlsi=dum_YpPM3i4UYwOo Might help you figure out your colors. The Zipper sweater brown tones looked really good.

    • @joyandknitting
      @joyandknitting 24 дня назад

      Some people are really bothered by mistakes and some not so much! It totally depends on the project and the mistake for me whether I rip back or not. Oh thank you SO much for the reference! I have been so intrigued by color theory lately and am having trouble finding the right shades and tones for me. I'm going to watch this while I work on a project :)

  • @patriciahall8733

    You need to rip the sleeve back and re-knit it, you will be happier giving a gift that has not been patched. It does look patched

    • @joyandknitting
      @joyandknitting 24 дня назад

      I definitely think I would personally be happier to gift it without the patchwork! She says that she loves it and it gives it character lol, but I want it to be special for her, so I'm leaning towards a re-do or grafting

  • @PurpleAlipineFlower
    @PurpleAlipineFlower 28 дней назад

    Impressed that you did all that lace work! In the future, block the pieces before finishing. You can pin the neckband in the middle and a couple places before sewing them together so you can fudge it a little if the stitches don’t match up. I think you could give it a good soak and pin it to the right specifications and it will be fine, though. Just make sure to give it extra dry time or it might spring back.

    • @joyandknitting
      @joyandknitting 24 дня назад

      thank you so much! That's such good advice, I think I should have done that before doing the Kitchener stitch! I know for next time :) It turned out really nicely after blocking! Still kind of a weird fit, but very beautiful.

    Hope you washed the swatch to make sure it holds its shape. I am also planning to do the zipper sweater but the "light" version using DK weight yarn. I'm looking for only 100% wool so it does not grow and that is the yarn that is suggested in the pattern - not merino but a more sturdier type of yarn for me anyway. (pattern recommends Peer Gynt by Sandness Garn - a 100% Norwegian wool) Plus want a tweed type yarn. I'm also going to do the Champagne cardigan and then will hold two yarns together etc and use fancier yarns. Plus I think a tweed will hide any irregularities around the zipper. Like you I have not knitted that kind of zipper collar. I will get my zipper from Petiteknits since unsure the quality will get online elsewhere. But maybe the local quilt shop might have it - once I figure out the wool I'm using. Have seen a video on youtube on how to hand sew in the zipper.....BUT I do think it would be great if you did a project vlog too! I did not realize how many yarns "grow": like super wash merino, of course silk, most likely alpaca Probably not mohair. Thanks for informative video.

    • @joyandknitting
      @joyandknitting 24 дня назад

      I bet the zipper sweater light is going to be really pretty! I just casted mine on the other day and im loving it :) I ended up going with a 5.5 mm needle for the main body with the aran weight yarn, after swatching and blocking! I wonder what the DK version will be like. I think a tweed would be lovely for you. I really love working with tweed, the irregularity is beautiful and gives the whole sweater a super classic look i think. I do think the super wash and alpaca yarns grow a lot! I find my 100% wool doesn't grow as much.
