Transient Killer Whales: CA140s
I haven't been able to go record much at all this year and this is all I recorded of my single whale watching trip of 2024 since I was more interested in just relaxing and enjoying the trip. We were lucky to come across the CA140s near Santa Rosa Island. Interestingly the matriarch of this group, CA140 Emma, is the mother of the matriarch of the other pod of transient orcas I've recorded (CA140B Louise).
Present in this is CA140 Emma, CA140C Ben, CA140D Olivia and unnamed CA140E. They traveled mostly during our time with them but did get a little social for a short while and even scared a poor little Minke Whale (which escaped unharmed).

Big video! Saw a ton of wildlife on this trip so I didn't wanna cut it down too much. This is also the first time I can share a Humpback whale mugging! Mugging in this case is a good thing if you're a wildlife appreciator since it means you're stuck there until the whale decides to leave. This one made multiple circles around the boat, spy hopped, would just float behind us and even started pla...
Rare ETP Killer Whale Encounter
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.10 месяцев назад
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet a different group of Killer Whales than the ones before! This group (Eastern Tropical Pacific Orcas) are known to roam the tropical waters of Mexico and Central America but they were making a rare visit up into southern California for about a month. ETPs are well known for being more friendly and dolphin-like in their behavior with boats as the...
Sunset at Waikiki Beach

Sunset one evening seen from Waikiki Beach on the island of Oahu. This is one of the busier beaches but still has beautiful views if you don't mind the people. Sorry for the skips in the footage - Gopros overheat when recording at high quality for long periods of time so it shut off multiple times due to that. As mentioned in the previous Hawaii video - the island of Maui is suffering from a de...

Killer Whales: The Hunt

A sort of highlight version of the full hunt! This still doesn't include all of the fun shots but it covers a pretty good chunk if the full nearly one hour version is a bit too much for you. This, like the other killer whale videos I've posted, features CA140B Louise, CA140B1 Stinger, CA140B2 Bee, CA140B3 Buzz and CA23A2 hunting a Common dolphin. The full hunt took place over 2 hours with a lot...

An extremely lucky encounter and my first time seeing wild Killer Whales (or Orcas - whichever term you prefer). This is the best blue whale footage I've seen yet. When it's close to the surface, you can really get a scale on how huge he/she is, because you know roughly what size those wave light refraction lines are 3:29 thereabouts, so you see how many of them lace across the animal's side, and see how ridiculously HUGE this animal is!

      There's a couple parts up! c: I should hopefully be getting the full trip video together to upload soon. Yeah - we were all surprised. Most people on the boat with me work on other whale watching boats (some nearby and others up in Monterey) and no one had seen one act like that. Normally they're pretty aloof since they're hyper focused on getting food.

    The side fins on a blue whale are 12 feet long and its tail flukes are 25 feet across get your tape measure out and pull it to these lengths to truly see how massive this wonderful mammal is!!!

    The blue whale has the second largest eyes on earth at 10 inches in diameter the giant squid has the largest eyes at 18 inches! They also have the largest lungs in the world they can hold their breath for an hour or more thats what makes them so elusive because once they do a deep dive they are gone!

    Propeller marks so sad

    • @WMMtravels
      @WMMtravels Год назад

      All the scars on this dolphin are what are called rake marks. They’re made by the teeth of other dolphins during social interactions (could be positive like playing or negative like dominance disputes). Propeller marks on cetaceans are deeper and more spread out. They heal as larger raised scars on their bodies.
