"Africans need to see their value to the world": A conversation with David Hundeyin
David Hundeyin has done some of the best investigative journalism in Africa in recent years. But the impact on the public has had mixed results. What is it about Africa and our consciousness that makes us lethargic about political matters which keep us poor and struggling? Hundeyin walks us through his growth in political consciousness to the point where he realized that any liberation must include an awareness about our value as Africans to the world, and why the world is committed to ensuring that we don't recognize it.

Mind and Soul 22: Learning to fish and the Universities Amendment Bill No. 5
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
Is teaching people to fish, rather than giving them fish, a valid educational goal? This video borrows from Walter Rodney's famous book to answer that question. It discusses the misunderstandings of what schooling does, as well as former CS Matiang'i's war on Kenyan education.
Understanding Kenyan reactions to the US Elections
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 месяца назад
Several Kenyans celebrated the victory of Donald Trump in the 2024 US elections. Many of the assessments expose a lack of understanding of US politics, and what right, center and left on the political spectrum mean. This video is therefore a breakdown of what right and left politics mean, in the context of the resounding defeat of the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Links cited in the video...
SHIF and the politics of cynicism (Part 5: end): Beware of the ogre
Просмотров 3974 месяца назад
SHIF is not "social" or "socialist" as the name suggests. Instead, it looks more like the broken American policy masquerading as "social" because of Africans' memory that the political leaders who are more serious about healthcare for all were socialist. The weakness of Kenyan public is the lack of theory and philosophy that would help us withstand the trickery used to persuade the public to ac...
SHIF and the politics of cynicism: Capitalist face, socialist mask
Просмотров 6904 месяца назад
The Kenyan economy is not productive and therefore it has no resources to fund social services like healthcare. The problem is a political one - the ruling elite are voraciously greedy and hopelessly mediocre. The Kenya government has always covered up this lack of care for the Kenyan people by naming its capitalist policies "socialist." What are Kenya's options? One is rebuilding political con...
SHIF and the politics of cynicism (Part 2): From colonialism to Uhuru Kenyatta
Просмотров 6754 месяца назад
The government claimed that the problems with NHIF came from the fact that Kenya's economy was based on trickle-down economics. In this video, we argue that Kenya's economy inherited from colonial rule was feudal, but this evolved into a specific form of neoliberalism during the Kibaki presidency. However, the structural problems were not redressed, and Uhuru Kenyatta covered up for the flaws b...
SHIF and the politics of cynicism (Part 3): Enter Kenya Kwanza
Просмотров 5864 месяца назад
For several reasons, Kenya Kwanza did not have the luxury of a binding narrative that Uhuru Kenyatta had thanks to his father's position as the first president and as a supposed anti-colonialist. It still had to pacify the Kenyan majority with promise of services, but at the same time, it had inherited an indebted economy. So what did it decide to do? Lower the quality of services and tax the e...
SHIF and the politics of cynicism (Part 1): The social rationale of SHIF

Mind and Soul 21 The classroom is not a spa: Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed"
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.4 месяца назад
In part 2 of examining the issue with "learner-centered education," this video suggests that Kenyans were attracted to the concept in CBC because of our familiarity with Paulo Freire's famous book "Pedagogy of the Oppressed." However, the centring of learning in the classroom is less what Freire envisioned and more the application of customer-service model to education. 00:00 Introduction 01:05...
Mind and Soul 20: Why are we calling our children "learners"?
Просмотров 9214 месяца назад
One of the things that mesmerized Kenyans about CBC was the change in education vocabulary, such as the replacement of terms like students or pupils with the term "learners." But is "learners" a neutral term? This video explains the neoliberal geopolitics behind the promotion of the term in education.
Sports Excellence and State Mediocrity: A conversation with Mordecai Ogada #TeamKenya
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.5 месяцев назад
While Kenya performed fairly well at the 2024 Paris Olympics, bagging 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals, the stellar performance of the individual athletes is surrounded by Kenya's political culture of mediocrity. The athletes surmount huge obstacles to merely represent the country, and the majority of Kenya's talent runs into obstacles of corruption, stagnation and sexual exploitation, all ...
The US elections will change nothing for Africa: A conversation with Margaret Kimberley
Просмотров 6 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this conversation, Margaret Kimberley explains to an African audience the history and structure of US electoral system, as well as the struggle for space by third party candidates outside the Democrat-Republican duopoly. This is an important conversation for a continent where a significant number of people support Trump's second bid for the presidency under the rationale that Republicans are...
Mind and Soul 19: Why the Kenyan media supported CBC
Просмотров 8295 месяцев назад
It's now clear that CBC was not what Kenyans were promised. However, the issues were raised from the very beginning, but the media engineered the conversation to the government's favour. Besides the general marriage between corporate media and the government, another problem is the values and training of Kenyan mainstream media journalists.

In the last 63 years, we have only had 10 options for president. In 2022, we were given the maggot infested scrapes from the bottom of the barrel.

on the 33rd minute, Mordecai explains white supremacy in a nutshell: elitism is rooted in oppression.
asanteni sana kwa ii kazi mmefanya ii miaka yote kutupa elimu waziwazi, elimu ya kweli ❤️
This is so enlightening. Let me start from the top
This is fascinating, your hope and commitment ignites hope in us as well.
Great interview, well done you both.
Such a brilliant conversation
This is the same for logo competitions for graphic designers.
Thank you for this… really informative. I have a question though. What is the role of the millennials (Gen Y) in eradicating this parasite?
white supremacy is evil, strategic, calculating, deceptive and manipulative. They spend plenty of time analysing, measuring such that wipe you out with one blow. It very unfortunate that our clueless leaders aka politicians do not know nor understand and they they do not care for what is sacred and dear to us.
Thank you for taking the time to get this out to the world. My great grandmother was from Haiti. She was brought to Trinidad as a child. I would love to visit Haiti one day 🙏❤️

What Africa as a whole needs is to collapse the colonial states and form larger states. This will help to disrupt the predatory and expand the cultural space and economy. ❤ from 🇺🇬
This discussion is top notch. An African publishing house would be a great idea. If you fancy input from 🇺🇬, I'd love to participate. Just give me a shout.
Much food for thought. The late Prof. Dani Wadada Nabudere did a lot of thought-work in this field through his Marcus Garvey Pan African Institute in Mbale, Uganda. Thank you. 🇺🇬
Brilliant analysis. Brave and Succinct.
Have been around Christian missionaries for some time, and after listening to this talk brings a lot of what I see to sense.Their is one funder for all this ngo's the behave the same way when they come to africa.
Talking about degrees of separation, Sankara tried to break it down for us, "Just look into your plates you see imported corn, rice or millet (When we can grow our own). That is imperialism, look no further" . The degrees of separation can be broken down.
A great episode! These conversations between East Africa and West Africa are important. It is only when one's perspective broadens that one can see connections that are hidden.
Amazing story of reality of Global North Imperialist inversion of thinking space in Afrika minds. A fresh revelation.
Appreciate this conversation but it's quite depressing. The economic sabotage we are currently experiencing as Africans is rage inducing.
Onward.
2:51:26 exactly!!!! Like our leaders corruption is not special, but everyone acts like it is and that becomes the excuse people point to as to why Africa is not developed. I even argue with people in my parents generation about it. When they say our leaders are too corrupt. Then I point to trump and all the corruption in Europe and elsewhere.
1:27:45 this analysis is so spot on, and is why I took issue with the movies. Honestly the fact that it's created by white people should be fact for black/Africans to take pause. I also took issue in the second movie where the two non-white groups(the wakanda, and the meso Americans) were at war with each other. Completely ignoring the white nations that have been antagonistic to them. But what irritated me the most was seeing all the "think-pieces" being put out on how the issue with the second wakanda was how women centered it was. There was a black guys sitting next to me saying that the movie was emasculating black men. I was so confused and astonish at how so self-centered he was that he could not see the clear propaganda for the black societies. But again this is what we get when we allow others to write our narratives
Once we see that's it's corrupt billionaires behind all of this then the schemes become so clear. It's local corrupt billionaires working for global corrupt billionaires in a parasitic relationship because our local agents think money can make them reach the top of the White Supremacist system. It takes stupidity to believe that. But they really do.
The Ugandan situation is exactly the same as what you have described in Kenya, except that Museveni is the only thinker who is offering resistance to the neo-colonial bandwagon. 🇺🇬
1:32:52 he forgot to mention how a CIA agent saved the day in wakanda at the end of the movie🤦🏿. Propaganda of the highest level
"The problem is spiritual"....agreed
The only way to defeat the settler colonial legacy in Kenya is by continuing to integrate economically and politically with East Africa. 🇺🇬🇹🇿🇷🇼🇰🇪🇧🇮🇨🇩🇸🇴🇸🇸 Yaani, create a new country wih a different national ethos.
This is such a profoundly important conversation
Follow the money
I love the death of Wakanda analogy: I will extrapolate from the former conversations of Mwalimu Wandia and Joe, on the ethno-politics that African Nations inherited from Eurocentric ideologies. I never interpreted it that way. I was so excited we had a Black 😅 superhero.
Until you understand white supremacy/racism everything else you think you know will only confuse you. - Nelly Fuller Jr The wizardry of the yt man is that he has convinced/confused us that we are not victims and worse, that he's the savior. All the time, he's the enemy. Thanks Dave for waking up and being part of "knowledge shall increase". Eventually, there'll be a tipping point. APTTMH. SELAH.
55:34 mwalimu the answer is what youve always told us we have a thinking problem / a philosophical problem
The only person I listened to when it comes to African politics is David. I literarily don’t listen to anything politics in Africa at all. It’s a complete waste of time. But when David speaks, I simply want to hear what he had to say. He always speak facts!

The deeper we dig the wider the web gets we all have to research and get the real information about why situations exist as they do great interviews Ase' to David Hundeyin
Without nuclear weapons and a strong military, nothing will change. With the 54 countries/ borders created at the Berlin conference of 1884-1885, Africa is not independent yet. The countries were created for ease of exploitation -- nothing has changed to this day.
Thanks for speaking my mind. African countries need stronger Military Power, Research and Development and a Nationalist leader. That’s a recipe for great change!
Germany predominantly sources its energy from fossil fuels, followed by wind, nuclear, solar, biomass (wood and biofuels) and hydro. The country gets 78% of its energy from fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal/lignite). In that case, Germany (and the weat at large) loses the moral to speak on this issue and therefore shouldn't be at the forefront of advising other countries on where to source their industrial energy from
Dangote is monopolistic so tou should bot feel sorry for him when the government stop his refinery
No... It's better to have the oil refined in Nigeria than sent to Netherlands to be refined and returned to Nigeria as imported oil...
interesting and enlightening conversation that should be heard by all Africans. As an African we need to bring to an end this exploitative extractive system in all its forms and should not fall for the cheap dollar.
