FLY FISHING NEW ZEALAND - Campfire, season reminiscing
Join me on my journey as I take a trip away to the South Island back country just a couple of weeks out from the end of the season. I set about enjoying a bit of solitude in front of the campfire on a still night reflecting on a season which involved exploring a lot of new sections of water and sharing my story along the way. Fly Fishing New Zealand | Fighting Fit BROWNS Under Blue Skies
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 месяца назад
Another season has flown by here in New Zealand. It's my last opportunity to get out before the close. I take a day trip to a well known back country river which became plan B after plan A was thwarted by anglers that got out of bed earlier than myself. Perfect overhead conditions and no wind for the most part was all I could ask for. Quality brown trout to the net would be the cherry on top. T...

      @@markbrown5751 Thanks, buddy. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, on the rig setup and nymph selection, it's something I'll make more of a mention about it next season when I do another video. I did kind of chat about it very briefly at some point when I was blind fishing the run and spoke about using an indicator and small mayfly nymph, but I wasn't specific about the setup. I've just posted another video if you wanna check it out. It's entirely different to this one, though. Cheers 👍

      @kiwitroutstalker8845 Thanks, Mark. Yeah it was a good way to break down some of the rivers without giving away too much of where I went as I had several clips on file and still a few I didn't put up but some of my finer moments I added on film. Campfire next to river where you can hear a bit of a side stream in the background flowing alongside me under a still night is hard to beat. Roll on next season 👍

    Nice bit of navel contemplation Tristan! BTW, am heading to lakes up Coleridge way in Nov. What pattern do you use for green beetles? Maybe too soon for them? Tks Paul

    • @HighcountryFlylife
      @HighcountryFlylife Месяц назад

      @waitaki_fly Thanks, mate. It's been a season full of exploration, but I'd come across a few good fish. Campfire alongside the river is hard to beat. In the lakes, I find the loves lure an effective pattern as it's easier to see in the water or a Coch-y-bondhu, which has a more bulky profile, which helps its buoyancy. Other than that, just your standard green foam beetle or Manuka pattern. Anywhere from late November through to February, the hatches are abundant. I'm looking forward to trying out my new Sony camera for next season which has just arrived. It's a significant step up from what I have been using.

      Thanks for watching buddy, much appreciated. The breaking strain I use on these lakes is 4lb tippet.

    😂@17:37 "Thats a good cast!" It sure was. The universe just makes more sense when the proper cast catches proper fish 😌 🙏

      @17:37 It's almost like an auto bot phrase that rolls out of my tongue without any control by stating the obvious at times when in my own head I'm thinking that's the cast 😅 But when the camera is off I say nothing generally. I think it's more for commentary.. Thanks for watching 👍

    Some lovely bows landed there, not bad looking at how skinny that stream is.

      Thanks Mark. Yeah the rainbows here are quite pretty and clean fish. Not huge but there are the odd one of 5lb or so in some stretches. I may come back here but a different stretch later in the season. It's a good stream during autumn.
