      If you use the same words in the texts in your own writing. Using a few words is okay. But if you copy whole phrases then that's not okay and you will lose marks.

    Hi Sarah, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your incredible videos on Taughtly! With God’s help and your guidance, I was able to achieve an A* and a 95 in First Language English For the October/November 2024 exams. I started watching your videos just few months to the exam and I can say that it had a huge impact on taking me from a C to an A*. I couldn't even believe my eyes when I saw the result because all I wanted was an A* even if it was a 90. Your teaching made all the difference, and I’m so grateful for the impact you’ve had on my learning journey. Keep doing what you're doing because you're highly appreciated!! Thank you so much!

    Hi Miss! Here's my take on the continuation of the speech: Redesigning the building, before making any additional upgrades, might feel like a hefty price to pay, but consider the alternative: the staggering cost of destructing the entire structure and rebuilding from the ground up. Investing in a redesign now isn't just practical-it's smart. It's about saving time, money, and effort while preserving what's already in place. Although, building a new, eco-friendly structure could prove beneficial in the long term, as it would incorporate modern methods and innovative, sustainable designs. Such a structure would not only be firm but also innovative. Knightsbridge, though, would surely appreciate the addition of a new football stadium, am I right? That would truly be a dream turned into reality! However, it's worth considering whether this transformation could be achieved without demolishing the existing building, preserving its history while modernising its function. A crucial priority is to ensure that the building remains a safe space for us students to learn and grow together. Rebuilding the structure would provide us with a safe and sound environment, contributing positively to our mental well-being as we would certainly enjoy moving through a modern, aesthetically pleasing space. However, consider the environmental impact: the destruction and reconstruction of the entire building would release significant amounts of harmful gases, posing a risk to our health. Would we not be affected by the noise of drilling and construction while sitting in class, trying to focus? Instead, we could preserve and enhance the existing architectural legacy-a structure rich in history and character-rather than replacing it with a stylish, but less meaningful, modern building. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak today. I urge you all to think carefully and make a wise decision about what you want for your children, ensuring they prosper not only today but also in the future. Thank you again for listening.

    I'm a little confused on the implicit "attitudes" as they are mentioned in the mark scheme - I understand that the explicit ideas are what I am evaluating, so where exactly do the implicit marks come in?

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly 5 дней назад

      @@icecreamsandwichesyum hey there, so explicit ideas are basically the arguments/ideas/points in the texts. Anything you could highlight would be an explicit idea. The implicit ideas are your evaluation of the explicit ideas. E.g. explicit idea ~ school uniforms are cheaper for parents Implicit idea, evaluating this point ~ cheaper still isn’t cheap. Uniforms represent an additional cost for parents as they still need to buy everyday street clothing regardless but now also have an extra expense of needing to buy a uniform.

    • @icecreamsandwichesyum

      I don't think it would be possible to list every explicit idea if you tried 😁 You should try to identify a good range of ideas from both texts (e.g. 4-6 per text) but no need to slip into listing as this isn't a summary task.

    How actually to determine implicit idea and how should I evaluate 4 point what actually to evaluate please brief me about the idea

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly 8 дней назад

      @@pankajkochar892 You will never know for sure that you’ve got an implicit point since you won’t have the mark scheme in front of you. Generally, to evaluate, you’re considering the strengths and weaknesses in the argument, possibly counterarguing a point in the text, expanding on an idea in the text and applying it to a new situation, e.g. in this article it was considering how the points made could be relevant to schools and students. It’s good to pick out three big areas you can argue, like in my speech I considered cost, history, teaching students a lesson. Then within each of those big ideas, try to address about two points, one per text.

    Dear Ms. Taughtly, I hope this message finds you well. I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible lesson you uploaded on IGCSE FLE Paper 1 exam tips. As a student preparing for the exam, I can honestly say that your video was a game-changer for me, and I’m sure for many others as well. Before I stumbled upon your channel, I was feeling overwhelmed by the vast amount of content and the pressure to perform well. The IGCSE English exam can often feel like a mountain to climb, but your clear, structured, and insightful approach helped me to see the exam in a completely different light. You broke down the key components of Paper 1 in a way that made them seem much more manageable and achievable. The tips you provided on how to tackle the different sections of the exam, especially with regard to time management and effective reading strategies, were incredibly valuable. One of the aspects I appreciated the most was how you focused not just on content, but also on technique. You really emphasized how important it is to analyze the question carefully and to stay focused on the task at hand. Your advice to break down the prompt into smaller, manageable parts really resonated with me, and I’ve already started applying it in my practice papers. I also found your guidance on how to plan an essay in advance to be particularly helpful. I’ve always struggled with organizing my thoughts under time pressure, but your simple yet effective strategy for creating a quick outline has given me more confidence. Moreover, your encouragement throughout the video was a huge motivator. It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress and anxiety of exam preparation, but the way you reassured us that it’s okay to make mistakes and that improvement comes with practice was exactly what I needed to hear. Your positivity and enthusiasm for teaching are contagious, and it made me feel much more confident going into my studies. Another important point that you addressed was how to refine our writing to meet the expectations of the examiners. I had often felt unsure about whether my writing was meeting the mark, but your advice on how to structure responses and provide depth in analysis was incredibly eye-opening. You made the process of writing feel less intimidating and more about engaging with the text, which I now realize is the key to performing well. Your generosity in sharing your knowledge is truly appreciated. The clarity, depth, and warmth with which you teach have had a profound impact on my approach to the exam. I’m feeling more prepared and positive than ever, and I am truly grateful for the time and effort you put into creating such high-quality content. Thank you once again for your outstanding lesson. I will definitely be revisiting your videos as I continue my revision. Wishing you all the best in your teaching journey, and I look forward to more of your helpful tips in the future.

      @@Mal-h8e Technically, yes, fine. But I might encourage you to see if the quality of your writing is consistent the whole way through. Students who write overly long stories can sometimes end up with writing that is list-like (he said, she said, and then, and then), or full of errors because they've written too fast, or with plain vocabulary because they've not had the time to craft each sentence with thought and care. So whilst you absolutely wouldn't be marked down for word count, you would be marked down if writing so much meant a decrease in the quality of your language :)

    Hi, if the prompt says to include the words “….I realised….” does that mean the story needs to be in first person

    • @Taughtly

      @ ok thanks! But can I also say it in third person like ‘she realised’

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly 14 дней назад

      @@Anya-xb9mx yes! The prompts aren’t that strict. E.g. if you don’t get around to saying the prompt, you don’t get marked down. So if you’re just changing a pronoun, it’s fine 😊

    This video is a life-saver! For a magazine article, would I lose marks for referring to myself as I, occasionally? Like if I said, "I was astonished to find that..."
