    Thats an aswesome exampler, i cant imagine myself curating anything like that from scratch or even below it- in an exam setting. Too idealistic, and unparalleled i do not have the imagination let alone the linguistic skills. Anyhow, this is why taughtly is one of my fav english yt tutors. Thanks x (:

      If you're doing coursework, then yes, you'll need a title when you submit it just so the examiner can keep track of all the paperwork. It doesn't count towards your grade.
      If you're doing the exam, nope, no title is needed. It's just for me I started with the title and then built my story out from that concept. Sometimes the exam prompts are, "Write a story with the title, The Ball" etc though.

    Hello taughtly,I was wondering if you have any tips on how to increase speed during the question 3 on paper 1 ,and if you have any sort of structure pn how we should write our narratives.For instance,should we try to start with the climax,or go in a chronological order?

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  9 месяцев назад +1

      Take three different colour highlighters into the exam and use these to colour code each bullet point. This can act as your plan. You can watch me do this on this video here: ruclips.net/video/KW_Sz4nQwbE/видео.html

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  9 месяцев назад +1

      As for a recommended structure, I'd stay chronological unless you're an A* student as you might just write something very confusing.

      On the exam, I'd leave a couple of lines, put *** in the centre, then start flashback. Once flashback was finished, I'd leave another couple of lines and another *** to show it's over. Also use a phrase at the start to make it clear it's a flashback, like "Years ago, Jeff never would have believed... On that hot summer's day five years ago..." or something. Good luck!

    Hello taughtly, I would like to ask something. My English teacher told me the language I used in article and descriptive writing is too complex and have sophisticated vocabularies and it is difficult to understand sometimes (she says the reader may not know the meaning of some word; i should add English is her second language too) and that the main message is lost. I do agree sometimes my writing in article lacks some topic sentences in paragraphs but I’m a bit confused about word choices. Because I have watched ur videos and you use pretty advanced words for appropriate places. I also follow ur structure for descriptive writing but my teacher again doesn’t seem to notice the symbols and metaphors. What should I do? She advices to use more simple language and said it’s okay for IGCSE. it would be so kind if u reply. Thank u. (I do consider the audience but she told me my descriptive writing is filled with hard words 😭 but tbh I don’t even think they are that too uncommon, for me the words are usually ones we see in our Oxford textbook and past papers and not even that high level what should I do 😭)

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  9 месяцев назад +1

      So you should have "precise use of sophisticated vocabulary" - advanced vocabulary used correctly.
      Now it's hard for me to advise because you might be using these advanced words in an incorrect way - in which case your teacher is right and you should simplify.
      However, if you're using your advanced vocabulary correctly and for effect in the sentence, then you shouldn't simplify.
      Basically, it's a question of whether or not you're using these words right. Cambridge would expect that a top band answer would be using a wide-range of sophisticated vocabulary precisely and for effect.

    • @PNM209
      @PNM209 9 месяцев назад

      I total get it but I still don’t agree with my tr tbh. Here’s the first paragraph of my descriptive writing. Sorry if I’m asking lots of questions hope I didn’t bother u 🥹.
      The stormy blue sky was scowling, brooding, and had once again kidnapped the sun - one of nature’s gift
      we had taken for granted. On the tar black road, the tanks’ tracks pulverized the snow into dark brown
      mud on which gunned soldiers - impassive faces with tightly pursed lips - stood rigidly like robots,
      guarding the hard metal fences that thousands of people were banging, surging, and jostling against.
      Despite the thick snowflakes and occasional chunks of snow, people, whose tangled hair was hanging
      ungracefully on grimy faces, were persistent on their shouts and protests demanding and whining at the
      same time like starving wolves on the verge of demise and peril. The weather-beaten faces wore deep
      wrinkles and shared despair.

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@PNM209 That's lovely and you're using that vocabulary very precisely and for effect. Please don't stop using it.

    Hi! I would just like to thank you so much for all your help; I've been taking many of the lessons on your website and I believe they're helping me a ton with exams. I do have one question, though: will I be able to attain full marks if I DON'T use the writing prompts for IGCSE Narrative Writing? I've had people tell me I will and people tell me I won't, so I'm becoming quite confused. I have a story planned out and everything so I would really like to figure this out before my exam, which happens to be in 3 days. Thanks! :) 🙏

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, you can still attain full marks - for IGCSE First Language English. I'm not sure about the O Level since I've never marked for the exam. For IGCSE, the examiner has to just mark your story according the mark scheme.

    Can i exceed the word limit for all others writings except for summary writing . I usually go over 100+ words for writer effect and 150+ words for extended writings. And 500-800 words for paper 2 narrative one?
    Is that alright? Do i need to wary about the word limit? Do exmainer redue marks for lenghty writings?

    • @Taughtly

    • @Taughtly
      @Taughtly  17 дней назад +1

      @@Mal-h8e Technically, yes, fine. But I might encourage you to see if the quality of your writing is consistent the whole way through. Students who write overly long stories can sometimes end up with writing that is list-like (he said, she said, and then, and then), or full of errors because they've written too fast, or with plain vocabulary because they've not had the time to craft each sentence with thought and care.
      So whilst you absolutely wouldn't be marked down for word count, you would be marked down if writing so much meant a decrease in the quality of your language :)

I'm in the same time zone/variant as you as I'm in China. Find out who your school's exam officer is and ask them to check again because you're at a disadvantage if you can't highlight your texts to plan.
