Courage Barbell Unlimited Episode 77 Kathy Johnson
We had Marshall Freakshow Johnson on the podcast a couple of times, but this was just a prelude to his wife Kathy! We sit down and talk about so many different things such as her strength career, having a young daughter competing in powerlifting, and about craniosacral therapy. The idea for this podcast started with her considering that craniosacral therapy might help my sleep issues. I was not aware of this therapy so we thought it would be fun to speak about it on a podcast. Lots of interesting knowledge getting tossed around in this episode.

Courage Barbell Unlimited Episode 74 Greatness Takes Some Loneliness
Просмотров 5621 день назад
In general, whenever you strive to do something great it will create some loneliness. This is something a lot of people will never do because they are scared, lazy, undriven, etc. So, when you are doing it and going for it they may end up pushing away. This is not bad thing and definitely not permanent. It actually lives the door open and gives more space for new more positive people in your li...

Generally speaking, every time you try to better yourself in any way it will create a time of loneliness. Not a lot of people ever do this and I feel like it makes other uncomfortable to the point they push away. This is not a bad thing though and it is definitely not forever. In fact, it opens the door and makes room for a high level of people that will come into your life. So always strive to...

Courage Barbell Unlimited Episode 72 Conan, Undertraining, or Overtraining
Просмотров 104Месяц назад
In this episode I discuss how there just is on one way to achieve weightloss, strength, conditioning, gaining, muscle, etc. The is the one best or perfect way for you as an individual. If there was just one perfect way, then we would not have all the lifting programs and nutritional plans we do. Fortunetly, there are some solid rules to follow when trying to achieve size and strength. These rul...

It seems to me a lot of people want to just be told how to get stronger, in shape, lose weight, etc. It does not usually work this way because the only perfect way to achieve these things are the perfect way for you as an individual. Fortunately, there are solid guidelines we can follow which will work as we change as well. In this episode I speak about some of these guidelines and some solid p...

Courage Barbell Unlimited Episode 70 So You Think You Train Hard?
Просмотров 130Месяц назад
So you train hard? What do you base this idea of hard on? I think there is a big misconception when it does to how hard you train, how much intent you train with, how intense your sessions are, and all of the ideas like this. You may think you train hard but compared to a top lifter your not training hard at all. I would say most people that lift weights do not train hard enough and there a lot...

Great discussion. Really enjoyed it!
I listened to it from A to B. Great podcast❤
Great Stuff! Steve is always Awesome.
why do all these mfers shrink at the end?
Not sure what you mean by shrink at the end.
Stevey P is a character 😂❤. Love it!
Good stuff!
I've know Steve since 2002,worked at and worked out at IronSportGym on and off for 15 years. Best gym on the planet.
Do you even lift bro
This is extraordinary content! The concept of personal integrity is significant for the success that truly resonates within, & actually satisfies. Your blunt candor is uncommon, & appreciated!
Great Stuff here.
Lol you talk about depression , not sleeping , and depression non stop . What’s courageous about that ? Seems gutless to me . Just deal with it , navel gazer .
CROM!!
Huge Kolb fan! Awesome episode
I just discovered your channel and instagram. Incredible feats of strength and awesome content! Subscribed and will be following you
I had one kid and took in 63 foster kids through the years ! You don’t know wtf you are talking about , YOU can’t do it because you have no guts !
“ I will not train like Chuck”= I’m a cunt !
You’ve been collecting equipement since you were a teenager and that’s all you have ? Lol Cheap ass .
How can a guy who is morbidly obese and has NEVER EVER been in shape give advice on training or diet ?
your podcast is absolutely awesome!!! Is it possible to make suggestions for guests? thank you so much
Its not about training hard. Its about training right.
I agree it is about training right. I feel part of that is training hard. Which can be knowing when to back off, when it is enough, getting the right nutrition, getting enough sleep, making sure to stimulate growth, etc etc etc. I see it as the balance of the whole.
@@CourageBarbell Yes of course. I meant the trinity. Intensity, volume and frequency. Dialling in you personal recovery rate. Which some never learn.
@@fender1000100that why I keep doing this. Sometimes I feel like I am I fighting the a world of coaches and trainer saying they have the perfect program, exercise, or plan. The only perfect plan is the one that works for you. I see it as finding solid principles and making a plan that best works for the individual
Great stuff
🙏
Thank you Chad
This was great 🔥
Fantastic info, so glad I found this.
Thank you!!!
Ed Coan and his wife are great people. I met them at SWIS. They could not have been nicer.
Completely agree. I am working to get him on the podcast when we can link up on times.
Tony Carlino is a great all round powerlifter besides being an elite bench presser, He is up there with the best of them.Great interview buddy
I agree and I am trying to get him and his wife back on. He just broke some more all time bench records!!!
This interview is so good. You two blend well together. Enjoyed it so much!
Thank you John! It was a really fun episode to do. Vincent is such a good guy.
Interesting. So size does not matter but age does? Do you disagree with masters classes or it is just for best lifter awards? Honestly I don’t care. I always just paid attention to the all time numbers.
I don’t mind the coefficient but when they add age to it or take age into account it’s stupid
Thanks Chad. Great video. A great movement I'd completely forgotten about. Thanks again!
Thanks Doug! It is hard to remember all the great movements we could use. I know sometimes I forget about one then when I remember and bring it back into rotation I usually get little bump in my training.
I followed Westside .Then later I got to train at Westside for over a year ( one day a week ) .I trained 4 days a week , 2 dynamic days , 2 max effort days .Then on off days I’d drag the sled .do abs and do 45 degree hypers .You stated you would do Westside conjugate over 14 days if I remember right . A I worked 6 days a week in a warehouse and delivering soda for a beverage company .Lifting cases all day up and down stairs .I had a wife and a young son and EVERY day iId do drills with him . We then got a foster kid , And then did drills with him on top of meetings with his councilor 3 days a week .So working and responsibility was all I had .DTILL found a way to NEVER miss . The Westside system is really easy to follow . In bodybuilding I trained 6 days a week , cardio every day , WITH congestive heart failure where I could not breathe at all between sets .I’d do a set of lateral raises and have to rest 10 monitors before I could breathe .Worked 7 days a week three jobs , still did the drills with my son. This excuse making makes no sense . Palumbos training was off the charts intense . .Ronnie trained each bodypart TWICE A WERK for 30 years ! Every week .Each bodypart TWICE a wee ! I was at Westside and didn’t see one guy cut workouts .Jake Anderson did so much volume it was ridiculous .AJ was all in MASSIVE volume .Luke Edwards ? Massive volume . A large muscle needs 72 hours to recover and a small one 48 hours . Who is the best ? Donnie Thompson . Check his volume .I talk to every single top guy.Ask Eddie did he miss or adjust ? He had a plan and followed it to the letter .Never missed lifts . By the way I ALWAYS said you were a great lifter .I just said if I had to train like you and Jesus himself said “ you can be the best of all time but have to train like Chad “ I’d say “NO “!!! I’d rather train then compete , and I competed A LOT !! All I cared about is getting huge , strength followed .If I had to train less I’d quit and go find something else .Feel beat up EAT MORE FOOD !!!!
One more thing..I slept 5 hours a night IF that .Most times I’d wake up at 3am to train so my day could be freed up to spend time with my kid. I’d work 10 hours to 12 hours every single day .On weekends id be working packing out soda , then work in a gym ..So I had no sleep . You once again don’t understand .I DONT CARE TO LNOW IF LESS WOULD BE BETTER !! It it holds zero interest to me .I’m not going to do less what I love .I was a good powerlifter , not great , a national guy a top ten in powerlifting USA that’s fine .I’m not a very good bodybuilder but love it .Bit one thing for sure I can look back and say @i worked my ass off more than anyone I know .
Oh one other thing .Today is Saturday .I will be doing 25 sets of quads this morning , then tonight will do 25 sets of hamstrings later .I will also mow the e lawn , work in the basement , go fox shopping and cook my food .All with the heart of an 86 year old man in heart failure and Afib and amyloidosis ( a death entrance ) and pulmonary hypertension .I have to sleep sitting up I can’t lay down or I can’t breathe..So really , enough of the depression and sleep babble .You have no idea what many of us battle daily .
I could not disagree more .Dave Palumbo says the entire reason he became one of the first 300lb bodybuilders ever was because of three things He never missed a workout ever He NEVER missed a meal EVER He never slept less than 9 hours a day It’s the non stop consistency of NEVER missing any of those three things that builds strength athletes . Chad Nichols Sid what made Ronnie the best ever , was because he was like a robot .He never missed a meal or a workout .Branch Warren says the same thing .Chuck Vogelpohl says the same thing .Louie says the same thing. Those are the guys I’d follow .
She is just super open and chill about topics that most men play very close to the chest.
Agree! That is one of the reasons I wanted to get her on the podcast!
For me I don't care what's between your legs, it's what's between your ears that counts for me to listen.
This looks like a great workout for the hamstrings for sure. Especially because you’ll be moving your body with your hamstrings much like a Nordic or ghr. Thanks for the post.
I just love finding cheap and simple exercises that work so well. This is definitely one!
Hell Yeah!
Great episode! Mindset is often overlooked, and I needed the reminder!
Agree! We can all use some little reminders from time to time!
Been doing mine wrong of course😂😂😂😊
Not any more!!!!! Lol
Dude, great video!
Thanks Albert!
👍🏻
keep going!
Hell of a podcast.....
Attitude is everything!
100% 👍
This is seriously good stuff. My powerlifting career is ending. You to provide food for thought. Getting a BMX
Do it!!!!! Everyone I get in a BMX loves it!!
This is so good!
Keep your nose to the grind stone, the catalogue lasts forever. There is NO ONE on social media who will survive to achieve what you have… so they will not break your numbers and your perspective will remain relevant for decades
a great conversation. I cannot wait for the next one. As a more seasoned lifter, 25 years, it is nice to here you guys discuss things that I have figured out along the way.
Coaching is such an art form. I do a lot of what Jim does with his kids. The key is they buy in and respect what I am doing because they have seen the results from previous generations. It also allows for two way trust. Example, we can put the NCAA tournament on in the weight room and still get our work done.
👍
brilliant stuff. This channel is a goldmine. more podcasts, more guests please. thank you very much
Hell Yeah! Two awesome dudes!
Thank you Albert, I always have a great time chatting with Jim and I was hoping everyone would be able to take something away from our conversation.
