    I fought threw this game a yr or so ago, never played these crpgs before. Loved it, i made a sorceress dragon priest multiclass. I was a walking God, but i cant beat the final boss. 😂

    Yep you are correct about the negative aspects. Like its bad bad. You can literally map states reducing sports gambling regulations and people in those states having less money, worse financial prospects, and a significantly worse view on the economy. So yeah... (importantly the pattern is so clear and repeated that its almost impossible not to be causality)

    This whole D&Gambling thing left sunch a bad taste in my mouth, e-gambling is quickly becoming a huge mess here in Brazil and destroying a lot of lives. To make things worse they are being pretty sucessfull in lobbying the government to become more legitimated in our territories. I'm also reminded of the huge pachinko market in japan that is "not gambling"(but it is) and have always used big franchises to make new machines, maybe if DnD was bigger in there we would already seen one wih how Hasbro is going.

    I loved it too. My best mate had the megadrive version and I had the mastersystem one. We played both to death. I'd love a modern version, the fact you could choose all the classes was just phenomenal at the time. Edit. Our box art didn't look anything like that in Europe.

    Neverwinter Nights is likely to get a same engine follow up to the original campaign soon. Made by the same author who wrote the premium modules darkness over daggerford and tyrants of the moonsea. Will be nice to have new campaigns for NWN

    You know this module is pretty silly but its growing on me, the first island reminds me of the werewolf island in BG1, crazy mage and all. I have recently got back to playing Neverwinter nights and the "Customize Character Override Hak Extended EE" mod has added a Henchmen Control System that works incredble well, it creates a new menu to give orders, make them use spells, habilities and even focus the camera on a henchman for while you direct it, amazing stuff!

    Did not know this game was still live. I downloaded the new Airship game that's name escapes me and will be sinking some time into it. I guarantee that DDO does support 32 bit operating systems as back when it released nearly every system had 4GB or less of RAM.

      I'M SO SORRY I ONLY HAD LIKE 15 MINUTES TO RECORD THE VOICE OVER AND TOTALLY SPACED! Also, in fairness to the developers, I don't have *concrete* proof that the current servers are 32-bit.... but when you advertise a new server as the first 64-bit one, unless the others are 36, 45, 48 or 60, that means their 32! (Considering how laggy the game can be at times, I wouldn't be surprised if they're somehow running off something less than 32, if we're being honest.)

      @@fandraxx It's ok man, don't worry about it 😁 By the game's age alone, doesn't seem like a stretch to think that. Add that to not pulling WoW numbers (what every big boss wants to get) in terms of player base and I can see a pretty lackluster server maintenance. In contrast, EverQuest has a fraction of the player base that the game had back in the day, but with fan effort and continuous support from Daybreak, runs pretty good today, even with suboptimal connection.

    You compare EotB to Secret of the Silver Blades, while you should compare it to Dungeon Master instead. A game from 1987! EotB borrows almost everything from Dungeon Master. It refines the graphics and the story, simplifies some features, but at it's core it's a Dungeon Master clone. Both games were awesome in my opinion.

    I don't get why people would compare these to the much later Dungeons and Dragons arcade games. The Gauntlet games would make more sense for comparison. Though both of these came midway through the twelve year gap between Gauntlet II and Gauntlet Legends.

    Ya I gotta disagree with your assessment, but fully knowing I have very rose coloured glasses on. We played the module in high school for over a year and it was amazing. I still have the CD-ROM and I've never had the sort of problems you said but I do use Co8. Will new people like it, probably not but it was amazing for it's time and a place to play D&D without getting your head kicked in, lol. I also started playing video games on a Vic 20 so that also factors into it. Take care and keep on keeping on 😎🤘🍻

    I got these for cheap on Switch. Not very good, but I did think they were interesting within context of ARPG evolution. You can see a little of Diablo in it, not to mention kind of predicting Capcom's much better D&D games. Also, I did love the absurdly awful voice acting.

    This one looks like the kinda of game that could get an amazing sequel if the developers learned the right lesons from its development. Even with your grievances i think i will give it a chance this weekend, on GOG its going for 40 Reais and here in the underpits of Brazil that the price to go see a movie in a cinema so i think it's an ok price for a small game.

    Coin muching dificulty, too many projectiles, bland story i can deal with those whem i give an old game a chance (cmom game design was still a mistery for most developers at the time, even them one can still find some fun in a good old jank game) BUT bad music on an arcade game? That's the line for me. I have the same sentiment about preservation of games, as keeping unprofitable and obscure games preserved officially is so rare i can just pray that the crazy collectors are keeping they'r servers and Harddivers full of roms, for the future generations.

    Sooo KoPP3 got pulled off of steam, both previous titles now feat ads & you need to drop about 100€ to unlock the full base content 😂 Northica ruined the franchise, I was gonna say name one alternative to KoPP that suits the same genre with 4th wall breaks and a light casual game you can pick up and put down.. there isn't one, and with these games in their current state there is a power vacuum because people will either download the older versions, play on PC or just dropped the IP all together

    How bad are you at Math if a to bonus doesn't tell exactly the same info as THACO. Like I have plus 7 and armor class is 15 I need an 8 or THACO is 15 armor class is 7 i need an 8.

    thank you. you are probably the first person that explained how thac0 works, and it actually made sense to me. it starts at 20, then you subtract a few different bonuses, and the final thac0 number is what you have to roll on the d20 to hit an enemy. again, thank you so much.

    THAC0 isn't complicated. It's just really unintuitive, and the name it self gets people twisted up. "Ok, so I need to roll a 15 to hit someone at zero AC, but this orc has 8 AC. So .. uh .. does that mean I add or subtract. How does this work?" While everyone immediately gets "add your bonus's to your roll, and you hit if it is equal to or higher than enemy AC"

    The only thing better than THAC0 is having negative armor class being great. Also don't forget if you have a negative THAC0 you can only be hit on a 1.

      I say it's supposed to be pronounced THAY-KO simply because a lot of former TSR employees (Tim Kask and Jeff Grubb, mainly) have pronounced it as such in the years since. I don't think there is a "proper" pronunciation for what it's worth, but if anyone were to know it would probably be those guys.

    THAC0 is the DC of your attack roll, the Armor class is the modifier. If it were explained as such then the confusion likely wouldnt exist.

      Yeah, one thing I've noticed about older TTRPGs (and older videogames as well), is that they don't tend to explain things super well, probably due to having not enough QA from people not directly involved in the creation of those rules, most likely as a result from them being small groups of people (though I could be talking completely out of my ass). A problem made worse by them often having bad formatting (though I haven't read any rulebook from 2e and earlier, I have read 3.5's core three books, and my god is that poorly formatted). As much as I've very much moved past D&D 5e as a system, I'll give it credit for its books being neatly formatted and easy to read, unlike in 3.5 where the only thing that separates each important rule or otherwise important thing in a certain section being bold text.

      the way you do it if you want to hide armor classes to an extent is have them take their thac0 and subtract their roll + bonuses from it and the result is the lowest armor class you hit.

    Nailed the concept by the one graph of thaco. It really showed nuance between classes. Thaco and those rulesets are more complicated but you can get a lot more mileage out of it then the toned down roll system in 5e.

    I'm currently playing Pool of Radiance and THAC0 is probably the most important stat for any melee attack-based character, i.e.: all the classes except pure Mages.

    Never missed thac0 much cause it's still the same math going on even today (thac0 just had the cool -(x) cause of descending AC) but i do miss how weird and complicated weapons were in adnd. We had attack rates (wanna see me throw 9 darts in one action?), innate bonus to damage and/or atack (the +2 from the heavy crossbow was scary), bonus against certain types of armor (i will use my hammer against the chainmail warrior!), damages for S /M and G creatures. It needed some balacing, some weapons were always better tham others even then, but i do miss it.

    I still use thac0 in OSE, and I like it for a few reasons. 1. The math for your target number to hit is done beforehand, rather than after rolling. This avoids the feels-bad of getting excited for a decent roll, then realizing you miss. 2. It feels old-school, which helps get players in the mindset for old school games 3. It's natural to just reveal the AC of a creature at the start of the encounter so everyone can determine what they need to roll to hit. This circumvents the 3-4 round period of players guessing at a monsters AC, and let's them know sooner if they need to run

    I've never got the confusion. Thac0 is just the base attack bonus system in reverse. Thac0 20 = BaB 0, Thac0 19 = BaB 1, Thac0 18 = BaB 2, and so on. With the same being true of armor class.

    This kind of video is why I love this channel. THAC0 AC just sticks with me (studded leather = 7; chain mail = AC 5; plate mail = 3) in a way that ascending AC doesn't. Plus, it's easy to convert into an ascending system if you want. Just use your THAC0 as the target number and add the AC along with your other to-hit bonuses. Voilà!

    It irritated me that ThAC0 got so much hate. When 3rd edition came out I self invented a math scheme to convert it into normal + or - to hit. I am not exactly a math genius, if I could come up with a formula to do it without a reference material it aint complex. I even prefer it because even if it is "harder to understand" that is only at first, and it prevents a lot of BS number bloat. Also I get the og baldur's gate and icewind dale love.... but people still play older versions of dnd today, and there are a lot of rule sets created based on older versions that use things like ThAC0 too. So you might use it in more than BG1

    It struck me a while back how badly explained THAC0 is in the rule books... It basically boils down to a target number of 20-[Enemy AC] versus a d20+[what is now BAB, but here is a reduction in this base target number]+[Modifiers]. From third edition onward, we have basically all of it transferred to a target number of the enemy's AC versus your roll and its modifiers. It accomplishes the same thing, but without the weird circular feeling nature of it. But, since AC is supposed to be a DM-info stat, having to work it out is basically needed for both systems.

    THAC0 still works the same way as 3rd and 5th editions, instead of tracking a lower THAC0 the new editions just sad bonus to hit. And instead of leather armor giving you a -2 AC it now gives +2 AC still starts at 10 even. Usually I make this case so that more people play second edition since it is quick math for the DM to convert it, but you could just as easily convert a modern system to THAC0. I think a lot of why it died out is younger players, are used to CRPGs and things that hold your hand a lot, most don't even look into the underlying system, they need a simpler system to get it. This is kind of a double edged sword, as it does open the game up to more players being able to understand it with out much effort, but it also means people who are not as apt to adapt, learn new things, are now playing a game that is about creativity and stretching the bounds of yourself.
