Arcana got me hooked on Epica, but I feel like there is so much more to them. (Reaction)
This song just dropped today, so I thought "What the hell", threw all my other plans over board and just joined the premiere. :)

A great intro and a taste of what's to come in Nightwish Yesterwynde. (Reaction)

Finally we start with the first song on the new Nightwish album, called 'Yesterwynde'. If you even want to call it a song. 2:30 Minutes, is quite a short amount of time, considering the epic songs we are used to, that easily surpass the 10 minute mark. Nevertheless it's a beautiful song, that makes you excited for what's to come. Twitch: www.twitch.tv/kanjixiii Instagram: kanjixii...

I came here to find out about Josh Gilbert's new band and found so much more. What a cool band with a charismatic singer and in this live version they are even joined by Tatiana Shmayluk, who is one of the most talented individuals out there in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it, as much as I did. P.S.: Hope you don't mind my dog interrupting. :P Twitch: www.twitch.tv/kanjixiii Instagram: instagram....

Huge shoutout to everyone commenting on my last Epica video and educating me about the background of the song. I'm so glad the band decided to release a live version of the song, just a week later. Everything you told me about the song and the live element, really made this a special one and I enjoyed watching it so much. I can't thank you guys enough for that and I hope you enjoy it. As I Lay Dying was one of my favourite bands growing up and to see this whole situation unfold more and more makes me sad as a fan. Especially because the new songs are so good... Fourth and (for now) last video of Nightwish's newest Album, Yesterwynde. You guys were not exaggerating at how good that song is, it is a song for special times, for a special mood. A sad song, but Floor's smile made me smile as well, even if it was just for a few moments and also gave me hope. A ballad, hard to describe. We will all meet again, under the lanternlight. FIRST TIME REACTION // NIGHTWISH - Perfume Of The Timeless
The heavy side of Epica (and a very entertaining video of a live performance) is the song ‘CONSIGN TO OBLIVION’ live at the Zenith, Paris. No doubt in my mind that you’re going to love that one, so please do us all and yourself a big favour and react to *Epica, Consign To Oblivion, Live at the Zenith, Paris.* You won’t be disappointed, I promise! 🤪👍
This song hit me like a brick the first time I heard it. (It still does every time I listen to it) For me the song symbolizes (especially with the images in the video; the end with the snapping film reel symbolizes the moment of death for me) the farewell of a person to those left behind (family and friends) at the moment of their death. The song seems sad on the surface, but (for me) it is actually a song full of joy and hope. In the context of my interpretation it says: Don't mourn for me, I had a fulfilling life (or: my suffering has come to an end) and in some form I will always be with you when I re-enter the cycle of life (or, depending on your personal beliefs, start my further journey).
The only reaction on this entire platform that fully did this song justice. Its exactly how I feel every time when I hear this song. And thank you for sharing... For a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave.
4:09 choir with out mics... ok
Your face had a voice all its own and said all that needed to be said. A thousand poignant words.
Hyper power *Manowar* on the psy-nzt 😮
I say watch more of their stuff, this one is still more radio friendly than their baseline. Others will have the recommendations for sure! Get something heavier yes but also don't miss out on their ballads. 😄
It is bittersweet and stunningly beautiful.
I was here and at Retrospect in EIndhoven back in 2013. Two magical nights I will never forget. Epica are phenomenal live!
Something else that you might appreciate that’s very heavy from them is “Victims of Contingency”. A personal favorite.
For heavy EPICA then ‘Consign to Oblivion’ live from the Zenith in Paris or for more like this then ‘Skeleton key’ from their Omega Alive stream during covid or ‘Unleashed’ Live from their retrospect concert. For peak Live Simone then it has to be ‘Once upon a nightmare’ (Omega Alive) or ‘Rivers’ ft Apocalyptica live from the AFAS.
Saw them live in Amsterdam in September when they played Arcana - they’re an awesome band live and this song was very cool live. Thanks again for your reaction
Love your reaction when she hits the word "light" in the chorus, because it does the exact same thing to me 😂
It’s a beautiful intro! Btw, the Antikythera Mechanism is a real, ancient object, and very interesting indeed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
Best song ever they wrote ❤
Epica is for sure a better band live, including this song. Mark (rythm guitars and growls) basically confirmed a European tour in 2025, when he talked with fans after the Symphonic Synergy shows in Amsterdam 2 months ago. You're getting a lot of great recommendations in the comments, but if you want to hear Simone not hold back I would personally recommend "In All Conscience - Omega Alive" the full Omega Alive (covid lockdown) concert is on youtube in 4k, but here's a timestamped link ruclips.net/video/mrppEWGl_ss/видео.htmlsi=oKypgJHHI8EY5BIL&t=1494
Great song. God bless you 🙏. You're grandma is next to you and very proud of what you have become. I have a musical suggestion for you ! It's classical music by Frédéric Chopin. Concerto n°1 for piano and orchestra...
the growling is very common in epica (yay!) and the choirs are just as common, with a children's choir getting a lot of use since the previous album. i would like to suggest this song; Epica - Facade of reality (the embrace that smothers part V), live at paradiso 2006 ruclips.net/video/_j8XnlixSeo/видео.html for a combination of old epica, heavy, deep (meaning) and great growling. where pop music is about a favorite food or how much someome dislikes someone else, with Epica it's usually psychology, philosophy, sciene, spirituality and so on.... For example, the embrace that smothers is a set of 9 songs (+opening, pre-songs and ending) discussing various sides of religious dangers. parts 1, 2 and 3 can be found on the "after forrever" album "prison of desire", mark's band before founding epica.
Great reaction to the unmatched symphonic metal band Epica and the goddess Simone ! You’ve earned a new subscriber
Epica have a whole universe of musics. There's music about depression, axiety, insomnia, quantum physics, wars, religions, love, hate, technology... they are a incredible band. If you want something havier and explore the maximum, I recommend Consign To Oblivion as the next song.
"Wasn't heavy enough"... Try Kingdom of Heaven, Parts 1 and 3 from the Omega Alive virtual tour.
HELL YES!!!!
You can actually find the live version of this song from the livestream. I recommend it. It's called SYMPHONIC SYNERGY. And they use a lot of growling!!! We want more, keep it coming.
Yes, the growls are part Epica 😁 you're in for a ride! Best band ever.
I was at symphonic synergy in September and this songs ending was much heavier with the presence of the full orchestra in person
If you do Cosign to Oblivion just a warning lots of growls less Simone. Epica have heavy songs but also beautifull ballads and other song between
Next Epica song - Kingdom of heaven part 1 (omega alive show) 🔥
Thank you for reacting to my favorite band. You’re still a virgin when it comes to Epica. They have been around for about 22 years so there’s a lot of catching up to do. I see people have made plenty of suggestions to keep you busy for a while. Enjoy the journey. 🤘
Las transiciones de Epica son lo mejor!!! ❤❤❤❤
So from what I've read. Josh doesn't want to do much except play with them. The guitarist Mike writes the songs. They barely got josh to do backing vocals. He has other side things he's does. I do wish he would do more dominant vocal parts. I miss his vocals
They definitely go a LOT harder, but I think that variety, and not doing too much of one thing, is part of what makes their discography so impactful. This song definitely sounds to me like an album opener-the way it gets heavier and darker at the end almost feels like it’s leading into the next track and giving a real taste of what will follow. I’m absolutely obsessed with the poetry and message of it though. They did debut this one also at the Symphonic Synergy show (and it was A M A Z I N G) so I’m very hopeful that an official live version will be released just like The Ghost in Me! Simone’s vocals are sheer excellence as always, and this was your first introduction to Mark Jansen’s harsh vocals! That is indeed something they do regularly on Epica songs-a contrast popularly known as “beauty and the beast” vocals. And no one has mastered that interplay as well as them. One perfect example of it is their song Abyss of Time-highly recommend checking out the music video for that one, because there’s a lot of symbolism! And then overall for heavier tracks, I’d recommend The Essence of Silence (Official Live Video), The Obsessive Devotion (my favorite version is from PolandRock), and Victims of Contingency (Omega Alive). Finally, Simone can absolutely go further with her power, so I get what you mean about feeling like she’s holding back! I also feel like it’s one of the reasons everyone so strongly prefers live performances over the studio tracks, because it always feels like some of the depth gets lost during production-not just for Epica, but for a lot of singers I love. But on stage, you see and hear everything. One of my favorite vocal performances from her is Code of Life (Live at AFAS Live).
and by the way about the choir. You can consider it the third vocalist of Epica 😁 it is an integral part of them, they use it a lot, because it is the choir and orchestrations that give them this characteristic epic signature sound 😉
Hi and thank you for this reaction! Allthough choir-music is not your favourite choice, you can require it like an organ-pipes made of human voices. Tuomas has for a long time been cooperating in London Abbey road recordingstudios, and very professional orchestra and choir there. He uses cleverly this choir as human-instrument in many of his songs. Only complaint in this intro I have heard is, that it's too short 😂...waiting for more reactions..Kaisa from Finland
well man, this is a pretty simple song by Epica, but of course very well done, they always have a few hit simple tracks on their albums, for videos, to attract an audience, but they also have much more complex and difficult works for those listeners who like it more difficult 😁 Of course, they went much further than this song 😁 get ready to explode 😁 start with: Epica - consign to oblivion (live at the zenith) 😈
So happy with the video of this song. Would not surprise me if the Symfonic Synergy live version is dropping soon. Really hoping for it. Next Epica - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith). You wanted heavier Epica 😁🤘
Consign is even not their heaviest song, but for sure one of the heaviest and Epica at its finest 👌🏻
Hey man! I believe you are ready for the following: • Consign to Oblivuon (live at the Zenith) • Unleashed (Retrospect live) • Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega Alive) • Code of Life (live at AFAS) • Beyond the Matrix (live at the Zenith) And one of their masterpieces: • Kingdom of Heaven part 3 (Omega Alive) Oh man, you don’t even imagine what you are going to discovert. There is so much more, but that’s just the beggining. Cheers!
I concur with all of these!
Yess, please!
Hey my friend, i really enjoy your reactions!! You have to react to consign to oblivion (live at Zenith) next, to get how hard Epica can go.. If you want absolute epic song, Kingdom of heaven part 3(Omega alive).. also Once upon a nightmare from (Omega alive) is a favorite of mine, really a great song.. so thats 3 live songs i think you should react to.. I do think this new song is Epica, but at same time i dont feel its gonna be a favorite of mine honestly, its good, but Epica got masterpieces.. i would proberly place this song in the lower half of the Epica catalogue, that can of cause change, as this song is new to me also.. With all that said, Epica is one of my absolute favorite bands, and i know their entire catalogue very well.. In my opinion Epica do not have a bad song, anywhere on any album, some is just good, some is amazing, and some are masterpieces, but no bad songs..
This song is an absolute banger!! Love it so much. Arcana was played during The Symphonic Synergy shows in September, just like The Ghost In Me. I instantly fell in love with Arcana when I first heard it live two months ago! And yes, the growling in Epica songs is a common thing. The contrast between Simone's angelic voice and Mark's growls is what makes their songs awesome. Some Epica songs I definitely recommend: - In All Conscience (Omega Alive) - Kingdom of Heaven 1 (Omega Alive) - Kingdom of Heaven 2; no good live recording, so I recommend the lyric video - Kingdom of Heaven 3 (Omega Alive) - Abyss of Time (Omega Alive) - The Holographic Principle (lyric video) - Once Upon a Nightmare (Omega alive) - The Great Tribulation (feat. Fleshgod Apocalypse) - Sirens (feat. Charlotte Wessels & Myrkur) - The Essence of Silence (Official live video) - Unchain Utopia (Omega Alive) - Victims of Contingency (Omega Alive) - Code of Life (live at the AFAS Live) - Unleashed (live at the AFAS Live) - Design your Universe (Retrospect live) - Consign to Oblivion (live at The Zenith) - Dancing in a Hurricane (Official live) - Fools of Damnation (also no good live recording)
Great list.
Thank you for supporting our Mighty Epica, my dear friend 🔥🤘🏻
@@fritsyt2090 Of course!! Always!! ❤
Yes they use a lot of growling in their songs. I gave some recommendations in a previous video, but here you have them again : "kingdom of heaven part 3", "consign to oblivion live at the Zenith", "The essence of silence", "Design your Universe". As a long time EPICA fan, I do feel that she is indeed holding in a bit in Arcana and The ghost in me. I prefer it when they go all out, but it is understandable that not every song should summon the four horsmen of the Apocalypse :)
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done
Setting the stage with a beautiful musical soundscape.
The choir, the acoustic space. "See me, see me So alike we are, you and us, soon See me, see you On an island of a shipless crew"
This album is like an old concept album by Pink Floyd, you might take the time to listen to it from the first song all thru to the last one. After about 50 times now it grew on me up to the 5 best albums I own - and I am 64 now and have about 8000 records. The last song -Lanternlight- is my personal song of the year 2024 by far. It is very, VERY different but exactly that is the reason. For me Nightwish has evolved to those rare bands, that create art without any consideration to what anybody expected or to say it the short way: Nightwish does Nightwish things. Greetings from Germany
Yeah, I agree, it's more of an intro than a full song. I do play it still. But that's because I usually play the whole album from the start, and this is the first track. I doubt I'd play just this track on its own.
It is a nice intro of an album I prefer to listen from start to finish
❤💜💙
This is only intro to the main content, which is spectacular if you listen the album in a row. It's the best album of the year 2024.
Looking forward to see your reactions. I have Yesterwynde album as both cd and earbook with orchestral versions and I love it. Greetings from Sweden
So this intro end with the line, a island with a shipless crew, one of the first lines in A ocean of strange islands, is a island with a crewless ship, just a fun fact to get. Well i think this album is a grand journey, and you should really listen to it from start to finish a few times. Its also album that grows surely, and its not just the songs with videos you already watched, that are great, the whole album is, every song is.. The album do leave me with the feeling Tuomas did something great again.. well he is a mastermind.. Of cause the whole band should get the thumbs up surely..
This really sets the scene beautifully, looking forward to seeing your reactions 🤘
Enjoy the rest of the Album. It is a Masterpiece. Grettings from northern Germany
