ARE ARABS AVERSE TO ACCOUNTABILITY? – An Analysis.
One of the biggest events in recent Arab history was the Arab Spring. A time when it seemed that accountability was finally going to enter into the lexicon of Arab socio political life. Leaders fell, governments were toppled and the path for a better standard of life across the region was started to look like more than a dream. Then, all went back to how it had been pre uprising.
For Arabs, the fight isn’t purely against suppressors or oppressors, but it's against themselves. There is an almost allergic reaction to the concept of accountability in Arabs that is engraining within their behaviour. Behaviour that is impacted by many centuries of political, societal and religious conditioning...

HASBARA'S LAST STAND - The Final Days of Zionism’s Propaganda Machine

Zionism over the last century has had the upper hand in spinning its web of narratives concerning the occupation of the Palestinian territories. Such a well-coordinated task was left to the Hasbara, Israel's propaganda machine, which decade after next, was able to brainwash most of the Western world, the global powers at the time, in dehumanising the Palestinian people and justifying all the in...

Arab unity over the last century has been in the words, minds and lore of all Arabs. So, what make the Arabs think this way of themselves? What are the unifying factors, and what are the opposing realities...

Islam in modernity has seen challenges like no other. New systems of governance that contradict the traditional rule and laws of the faith. Speaking of history, I'd say, recognize Beni-Israel and their rightful existence in their land of Israel. Not because i'm saying thays, because the Quran does recognize this simple fact. Accept and collaborate with them, and you'll see miracles happening in the Middle East for all Arab nations involved in front of your eyes. Don't ask me why it's designed to be that way. You’ve tried everything else. Try doing what Allah intended, and the majority of you refuse to accept. Allow the Blessing to spread. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. What do you say Kandari?

So Islam isn't the cause of the guardianship system, polygamy, child marriage, women's limited access to divorce, women getting half a man's inheritance, men harassing women down the street if they're "improperly"dressed (and also if they aren't), their husbands being able to prevent them from working and traveling, men being able to use physical force to discipline their wives... and much more? Those things have NOTHING to do with Islam at all?

You said Muslim women are using their freedom of choice to choose a conservative lifestyle - as if they ever had a choice in the first place Conservative is always nonsense cause it's never a real thing. Men have always pushed conservative values on women and made exceptions for themselves, and in Islam the double standard is even more obvious - polygamy and concubinage are integral to the religion.

The Umayyad and Abbasid Arabs never allowed natives in Persia, Iraq, the Levant, Egypt or North Africa to rule. Only Arabs who descended from Arabia or Quraish in particular were allowed to become Wali. The markets of Baghdad and Damascus were flooded with se x slave women (Jawari) captured from Egypt and North Africa. Earlier, Mecca and Medina were flooded with se x slave women from Mesopotamia and Persia. Heavy taxes were levied on conquered lands and the money sent to Damascus and Baghdad. The Umayyad Mosque was a church. Christians in Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Iraq were never allowed to build any new churches for the past 1435 years. The Ottomans were even worse. The only difference between Arab colonialism and European colonialism is that the Arabs did not commit m. ass gen. ocide. However, saying that Islam and Muslims were far better despite continuing with slavery and s. ex slavery, land and income grab because ‘these practices were acceptable then’ says a lot about the divinity claims of Islam. Muhammad forbade alcohol, pork, gambling and many types of marriages during his life. He also made millions pray 5 times a day and fast one entire month from dawn to sunset. Yet he still considered conquered lands and women a property of Muslims.. He was a man of his time… that it. All religions are man made. Some might be better than others in one aspect or another, but all are for sure man made because they are based in many scientific and historical myths, as well as the moralities of the days of their founders.

I had to view this one twice... it raised really interesting questions. So here are a few thoughts... I reckon that any given society is a function of several factors, and these determine the structure and governance of that society. The major ones are culture, religion, history and environment. This last includes climate, geography, neighbours, resources and population size and homogeneity. At the risk of making superficial observations, to me the Arab world demonstrates the impact of these immensely. First, the culture is ancient but also fragmented. I understand that "Arab" is applied from Morocco to Iraq, but I wonder if Egyptians and Syrians in particular would historically have agreed with that? What to Tunisians and Kuwaitis have in common? Religion (gulp) is the most sensitive topic, but the parallels between Islam and Christianity are so great that the fact they are ignored in both worlds always staggers me. The influence of Roman Catholicism was unchallenged in Europe for a thousand years until the Orthodox Schism and the Protestant Reformation, but the acceptance from Ireland to Greece and from Portugal to Russia that Christianity was the sole arbiter of morality, kingship and access to the afterlife was ubiquitous. That has changed in the past 100 years due to the advance of science and education, the exposure of hypocrisy, the impact of devastating wars and the general acceptance of democracy. I cannot help but think that adherents of Islam in the North Africa - Levantine - Arab - ex-Ottoman region have not addressed these issues as yet. As an Irishman, history is possibly the dominant factor in how I and we see the world. ALL of Ireland's ills are the fault of the English/British...? No, not true but it's a convenient framework based on much truth, some ignorance, some delusion and a false understanding of real history. In our case the fact that the English were invited to invade Ireland by a displaced provincial king in 1169 is conveniently ignored when we point fingers at our eastern neighbour, which is now a friendly country (despite the stupidity of their ruling classes). I believe that the Arab world is rightly incredibly resentful of post-WW1 western colonisation, exploitation, interference and ignorance, with the creation of Israel and the eradication of the indigenous culture and residents being the worst of all sins. However, the Ottomans were not exactly benign overlords and Ibn Saud did not need much encouragement to rebel. I suspect that the teaching of history in Damascus and Baghdad was as biased as that taught in British schools, though clearly with a different focus. The less said about resources the better. The curse of oil speaks for itself and if Arabia and Mesopotamia were similar to Greece or Italy then the region might have escaped this curse. Neighbours.... this brings to mind the old story: God created Palestine. It was a wondrous land of milk and honey, olive trees, a beautiful coast, a fabulous climate and fields which were fertile and easy to work. He populated it with the friendliest and most welcoming of people. It was the crowning gem of his creation. But he was a little troubled... should such perfection be given to one people when most other races had to struggle. Was it fair to all humankind that one land should be so blessed? So to even the scales he decided to drop in the Israelites....... So, are Arabs less accountable than others? In the short term perhaps so (a century is just one long lifetime) but fundamentally people are the same... same emotions, same strengths and weaknesses, same desires and dislikes, etc. The system of government chosen, whether voluntarily or by imposition, dictates what happens today and perhaps next year, but circumstances change quickly. Few white people in South Africa forty years ago could envision what was about to happen to "their" country. I think many people are looking at Syria with hope, but also with fear for what happens next. I do believe the world is changing geopolitically, and Gaza is a major catalyst. The US, and to a lesser extent the UK and Germany, has lost ALL moral leadership in countries (like Ireland) where previously it was seen to be the handsome cowboy with the white hat. I suspect, but I'm speculating, that Russia's imperialist aggression will fail because it has met a little victim that won't give in, and under the surface Russia is weak. It's a bully. I'm not sure about China but I suspect it wants to dominate its region (and be a bully) but it has more to lose through wider military intervention than it has to gain. Europe is not monolithic, it's still a collection of vastly differing countries and cultures, but more than anywhere in the world it understands the devastation of total war. Which leaves South America (big place... local problems); Africa (watch this space... huge energy and potential but massive challenges to overcome); and the Arab world. And that's where the crystal ball goes cloudy... Saoirse agus síochán don Phalaistín 🍉🍉🍉 ☘☘☘

it's not just an arab phenomenon it's a muslim phenomenon. it's a reflex to try to rationalize the fact that the ummah is currently in centuries of humiliation without any sovereignty or agency. it's heavily incentivized by the post colonial managerial elites meant to keep the muslims impotent in exchange for wealth and lack of accountability. the sooner that muslims and arabs have a sober analysis of just how bad things are for our civilizations while also acknowledging the immense potential to dominate the world if we actually tried to win then things will start happening in the good direction. this won't start as a mass movement it never does. it will start with development of a new arab alternative elite that is concerned with arab and islamic civilizational victory. people who won't abandon their values and culture while also working for ummatic victory. also you don't mention that Hisba is already baked into Islam and in the practice of the early muslims and it's one of the things that brought muslims civilizational competence. we have the tools to succeed we just need to use them.

The lack of accountability is not the reason the Middle-East has " never experienced democracy ". Western Countries have involved themselves in the domestic issues of the countries of the Middle-East. Their involvement has nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with control of other countries and continents. Stability = Control = A controllable Population Instability = Chaos = Regime Change = more compliant leaders to Western hegemony.

As an Arab, I was at first worried that this video would be coming from a self-hating or self-denigrating position, as usual with such topics. I am happy it wasn't; however, your phrasing and use of "the Arabs", to be quite frank is kind of insensitive and does give an air of denigration. I think you have something with this topic, but your analysis is far far too shallow to actually be able to elaborate or show anything. The problems you mentioned aren't unique to Arabs, East Asian cultures have almost as much if not more respect to elders than we do, yet Korea and Japan flourish. I think you need to give better examples with "holding the past accountable," and I think you need to analyze societal issues at a much deeper level than "respect for elders beget respect of leaders." While that and not speaking ill of the dead are important, we Syrians for examples say "يلعن روحك يا حافظ،" (hafez curse your soul), clearly refuting the "no criticism of the dead" doctrine that you make out as almost law. There is also the caveat that you can still criticize events rather than glorify history, which I agree we don't criticize enough and we glorify too much, but that is more about latching onto something in contrast to the bitter reality we live in. Finally, and most importantly, you forget the most important element: desperation. When people dared to dream they were crushed, every single crime against humanity was committed in Syria, it is difficult to dream after that happens. Dictatorial rule removes hope out of you, for it to survive. After 50 years, sometimes you convince yourself that it is "للأبد". I think this video could have been much better, but doing it in 10 minutes makes your analysis shallow, and thus your argument weak, missing the actual problems.

Because it seems like the people who should be taking "accountability" is the west and its "Free democratic christian values" of killing millions of civilians and transforming the middle east into what it is today.

Early muslims: disagree on a topic and fight each other with swords. Modern scholars: you must never ever go against government, you must obey and cause no fitna. Did someone in the middle added an idea or two or it's just me?
