Fixing a Subzero fridge ice and water dispenser
The ice and water dispenser stopped working after some ice had landed on top of the lid and frozen solid. At first, the control lights would blink and nothing would happen. Eventually, they stopped blinking completely. The clue for me was that the lid that closes after the water/ice dispenses remained open. I also couldn’t force it close.
I decided to take the whole unit apart to understand what happened. The issue was simple but it took about 3 hours to complete the repair.
Hopefully if this happens you, you can avoid a $1000+ repair bill. Let me know if the video helps you in any way.
Cheers

Could a Miele F24 code be caused by a faulty slide shutter switch?
Просмотров 6017 месяцев назад
Could a Miele dishwasher error F24 fault code be due to a bad slide shutter switch (F63 and F84)? I believe that was my case. My dishwasher first gave an F24 code after 30 secs from start cycle. I tested the pressure switch and it was working correctly. Nonetheless, I replaced it. It then began throwing an F84 code. My hypothesis is that with a defective slide shutter switch, it left the slide ...

      Hi. The first info i had from Miele and internet was that it should be the relay so this i replaced and with no success, i was very sad😢. Then i found your video about the pressure switch and how to determine that its actually faulty before i ordered a new one from Miele 😊. I also needed to buy a better multimeter that had a wider range when measuring ohm. I could measure almost exactly as in your video, this made me very happy!! I ordered a new one, replaced it, and a left the new relay in the machine as well. Now the machine works, I am glad when i can fix things instead of buying new stuff(especially expensive Miele) And my wife is very happy we have a working dishwasher. 😊

    • @rogerscubadiver
      @rogerscubadiver 17 дней назад

      @@mathiasDannemann this makes me very happy to hear. The right to repair should be a basic right consumers should have. Companies make it really difficult to get your hands on manuals and replacement parts that make it impossible to do the work yourself. A word of caution, my second Miele started to throw an F24 code. I assumed it would be the same issue as the pressure switch but when I tested it, it tested fine. Then I looked at the other error codes in the computer’s memory and it indicated F63 and F84, pointing to the slide shutter. To fix it, it says you need to replace whole pump, which is $500+ USD. I decided to take the pump apart and learn how it works. My handy multimeter allowed me to find the root cause. A tiny switch. Unfortunately Miele doesn’t sell it by itself. They want you to replace the pump. I did some Google searches and found the part for a grand total of $1.83. I have a couple of videos that show you how to prove it is that part. Now my other dishwasher is starting to randomly throw an F85 which is also a slide shutter switch. So these parts seem to be failing around the same time. I alternate dishwashers so they have the same number of hours of use, which tells me this tiny switch reaches its end of life around 2K hours. Be on the lookout for a future failure in this space. Do not replace the pump without checking the tiny switch

      @rogerscubadiver 3 месяца назад

      Dana, F70 code is for a float switch float. It could be that you have a leak and the switch is activating or that the switch is defective. Either way, you will need to take the bottom pan out to determine which one. I haven’t had this problem yet but the manual has the following info “Fault code F70 Symptom Fault code F70: Float switch fault. After the WaterProof System has activated, the program is interrupted and the drain pump is operated. The fault will be indicated in the display or via LEDs. The buzzer is activated for as long as the fault is detected. Cause Water in the drip pan. Changeover contact of the overflow float switch B8/3 closed from 1 to 4 (refer to wiring diagram). Remedy Remove the water from the drip pan. Check all hoses, connections and threaded unions for leaks. Check the float switch B8/3 for continuity and correct operation. Carefully dry all electrical components in the drip pan area. Cause Float switch defective. Remedy Replace the float switch B8/3, 5.5.25. Cause Drip pan warped after transport. Remedy Remove Drip pan, 5.1.12. Bend the drip pan straight or replace if necessary.”

      Dana, The F70 code looks like you can have a leak in the system or the switch is defective. Remove the drip pan to examine and get more clues. • @rogerscubadiver
      @rogerscubadiver 6 месяцев назад

      See my previous videos in this channel. For myself and several people, it is not the heat relay but the pressure switch. I concretely proved it with an ohmmeter and then took the part apart to see some rust that was causing resistance issues. This time, I got an F24 in my second dishwasher and I immediately thought it was the pressure switch. However, when I tested it, it was working fine. I still put a replacement in since I had already bought it but then the F63 and F84 came on. Hence I’m stipulating that the first F24 was a red herring that could have been caused by a blocked pressure switch since the slide shutter wasn’t being rotated to the right spot

      I believe a small amount of water got past the seal into the contacts. You can see in the video when I remove the metal plate there is a slight wetness inside. That likely caused some corrosion. Another possiblity is that the mechanical spring that breaks contact got fatigued and it doesn’t open as much as it should be to create the open circuit.

      Hi Gabriel. I’m glad that you found it useful. The bouncing could be a problem. It should be a simple open or close circuit. Any resistance should be suspect. As to the color of the alligator clips, it doesn’t matter what it is to complete the circuit for this test.

      Hello there Mark. Finding the tech documents is one of the hardest tasks I had to endure. I found it through googling. You can tell because the URL link typically has nothing to do with manuals. Also, you may have better luck by searching for the DW family, like “G6xxx” rather than specific model.

    Instead, I am still getting mad with my G1230G - F24 Error. Relay is crystal clean and test with multimeter suggests it is working well. The pressure sensor, I get 180-200 kΩ on 21-22 while I energize the water pressure switch and 140 kΩ on 21-24 without energizing the water switch. 0Ω between 21-24. Also, I found the schematic inside the fascia, discovered that in the manual they reference all the time to the ST5 connector, but it is ST6! Everything looks clean with the ST6 connector. So far it looks like the pressure sensor is the culprit here. Is there any other test I could do?

    • @rogerscubadiver
      @rogerscubadiver 11 месяцев назад

      You are right about the ST5 lead being wrong. I found the schematic in the fascia and went with that. I have another video where I discussed that. If you are getting some resistance measured in the pressure switch when the circuit is supposed to be open, then that is likely your culprit. It was for me as you can see in the video. When a circuit is open, you should measure infinity ohms (or which ever way your ohmmeters shows when leads are not touching). When the circuit is closed (by emulating water pushing on the membrane like I did with the screwdriver), you should read 0 ohms (or a negligible fraction of 1 ohm). From what you are describing, it feels to me that your pressure switch is bad. Mine seemed to have gotten water inside (past the rubber part). Look for my video where I dissect the bad pressure switch).

    • @rogerscubadiver
      @rogerscubadiver 11 месяцев назад

      And to answer your question, I think doing the resistance test and not getting the expected results is as good of a test as you want to do. The other is to actually test the board ST6 connector while in use but that is a lot more work to set up. You can order the pressure switch from MIELE’S website.
