Yo guys, it's Jacob, a.k.a. J-MASS! I'm a Masshole who's obsessed with urban exploration, geography, history, nature, and travel, with a special niche interest in New England! I typically post informative vlog-style videos exploring unique abandoned sites with fascinating and often-forgotten histories.

In the industrial city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, stands the decaying ruins of one of the most beloved baseball stadiums in the state. This stadium, originally known as Pawtucket Stadium, was built in 1942, before being renamed to the now-iconic name of McCoy Stadium in 1946, in honor of the city’s former mayor, Thomas P. McCoy, who aided in the stadium’s construction and development. McCoy Stadium would host two minor league baseball teams...

The state school was turned into a prison in some buildings after it closed the fencing wasn't up when it was a school parole and probation also occupied one of the buildings
This is my escape pod from all the MAGness out there!
I played in a Pitch hit and run kids competition there in 1979 when I lived in Provedence
That sounds like a fun time! Great memories!
This looks very similar to the Fort up here in Prospect, Maine. Fort Knox. Look it up, they built a twin to it somewhere in Maine. This surely looks close. Fort Knox is open to the public as well. Haunted as 💩 🤣 👻 ⚰️ 💀 🎃 🦇 Happy Halloween 🦇
I’m really hoping to get ivermectin to Fort Knox sometime next year! I drove by it a month ago, and it looked so cool! I wanna film a full video there soon! Happy Halloween! 🎃
How did you get in them because there locked?
My mom and aunts worked there back in. The lat 60s and early 70's it's was not as bad as you are talking about. Yes it was bad but you don't know much about it I know a lot about those buildings.
That is true! But as I mentioned in the video, it was truly at its worst during the 1930s and 1940s, when eugenics were still a popular medical theory. This would have been before your mom and aunt worked there, so I believe there was some progression since then.
I’ve been waiting for you to go here… such a sick spot I need to make my way here eventually. Talk about nostalgic
Even if you can’t venture inside, it’s well worth a visit! Such an icon!
@@j-masshaha I saw the threads on Reddit and what not showing the inside that’s good enough for me not worth the risk
A few details that were missed... McCoy was completely rebuilt in 1998, which is why it still looks (21st century) modern. Free Parking AT the Stadium! Try that at Fenway or Polar... Ticket prices at Polar are 3X or 4x Pawtucket prices. No parking near the stadium. Parking prices at Fenway are criminal, ticket prices are some of the greediest in America. I lived in Southern Mass. for 10 years and saw a lot of PawSox games... including early Mooki Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers. Pawsox, now, WoSox AAA teams are the Red Sox Farm Teams
Thank you so much for the details! I somehow missed including the part that it was redeveloped and rebuilt in 1998-thanks for clarifying this! And I agree about parking at both Polar Park and Fenway Park; the prices are completely absurd.
@@j-mass Thank You for taking the time and money to put up an excellent video memory of a much loved symbol of an overlooked part of America. 🙏
i grew up in North Stonington i love this little town i went to wheeler high school in the early eighties best group of people i have met in my life. mr. KERR, MR Brooder, mrs Reem mr sousa mr Fisk great place. minors dairy bar. i lived on reutiman rd on Drakos Farm
Thanks for Massimg up New Hampshire! So it's J-MASS? So that stands for JackMass, correct??? Just a heads up. I think I speak for a lot of people in the state of New Hampshire! You Massholes ruined this state with your trash everywhere. I know that not all of you are bad, but it seems like 10 out of 12 of you Massholes keep Massing up New Hampshire. So keep it south of the border... Stay south! If you dare come visit, make sure you do not settle down. You must always return home to where you belong in Trashachusetts...
Just for the record.... Its actual location is not in Lincoln. It's in North Woodstock, NH
Hmm… I have the exact coordinates for the bridge, and if you look at it on Google Maps, it’s directly in the center of the town limits of Lincoln, NH. If you want to double-check it, it’s right on the cross-section of the East Branch Pemigewasset River and Black Brook.
J-Mass, thank you so much for this video! I grew up in Rhode Island, and McCoy Stadium was a big part of my childhood-and later, my children's. I have fond memories of going to games with my dad, my late grandfather, and my late uncle from the early '80s on. More recently, I was able to continue the tradition by bringing my own kids to games with my dad and aforementioned uncle prior to his passing. I was heartbroken when the PawSox moved, and it’s even more heartbreaking to see McCoy in its current dilapidated, overgrown state. I attended the stadium’s final game, but getting to see it once more through your video was a nostalgic walk down memory lane. To see the statue of Sox at the end of video... I can't find the words. Thank you for bringing those warm memories back to life!
Thank you so much for this comment! 🙏 I am so happy to hear that my video was able to bring back great memories for you! I bet attending PawSox games at McCoy Stadium was such a great experience, and I extend my sorrow to all Rhode Islanders, as losing such a beloved team must have been very sad indeed. I’m glad I was able to document this stadium while I could!
Very interesting spot Jacob! Good work as always homie. Annie and I have been thinking about this spot for awhile and I'm happy we were hesitant to go lol. Security there is not to be messed with for sure. Cheers bro!
Yeah, as you can see in the drone footage, there are many cameras scattered around lol. Even had a cop roll by me while filming (he was cool with me though since I was outside the stadium). Security there is strict, but you should definitely go check it out from outside before it’s demolished!
Played football on the adjacent field from McCoy stadium in the early 90's for the Crusaders. So many fond memories going to that stadium and playing on that football field and watching many baseball games and firework shows and just growing up in that area in the last best decade. So many spots to check out in Pawtucket with historical significance. Happy treasure hunting ✌🏽♥️
That sounds like such a fun time, that’s great to hear that you have fun and memorable experiences of those days!
Not a terribly interesting site, but thanks for the tour. Video is excellent as always!
Thanks so much man, I appreciate that! 🙌
So all that pink insulation is fiberglass. Asbestos insulation was used on items that produced heat such as boilers, turbines and steam pipes. It wasn't typically used to insulate walls or a structure from the outside elements. Other items that contained asbestos that were not insulation related were floor and ceiling tiles. That boiler and pipes in the building near the end before the sprinkler system was almost definitely covered with asbestos insulation.
3:07 3:10 i see people playing? 3:20
Yeah, there’s an active soccer field right next door. While I was filming, there was a soccer game going on!
Nice. Shoeless Joe says ... "IF you abandon it, JMASS will come!" Lol dope vid again.
Shoeless Joe has some great words of wisdom! 😂 Thank you!
@j-mass no problem. Great timing releasing this video during the World Series. Go Dodgers! Yankees stink!!!
I have been there 5 times . and J you are hot as hell 🔥❤️🥰
Hi. Im one of those raft guides. :D
Haha awesome, how is it rafting down that river?
@@j-mass its awesome man. Maybe I can get you out next year! Season just wrapped up two weeks ago. Love that you got inside. We have quite a few jokes and rumors about it. I always tell guests that it was a factory that made the plastic windows on mailing envelopes and they went out of business when email was invented. (As a joke) people always believe me. Being a raft guide is a bunch of lies/jokes/acting. It's a fun and serious job with real skills when it comes to guiding and knowing how to navigate a river. I've been doing it for 10+ years, but I also grew up here and my mom used to do photos on the river for one of the companies. So summer camp was just hang out with mom at work by the river for a while. Have you checked out the Hoosac Tunnel? There's a lot of cool history about it and Bear Swamp reservoir project. Im sure that video could do some great numbers if you source your info well. There's a lot that people don't know about the dam system and how the power is generated. There's a visitor center in Monroe/Florida MA on your way up to Station #5 dam where you filmed here. It's a really cool spot. Maybe we can connect if you come up. Im local year round.
That sounds awesome man, thanks so much! I’d definitely love to try rafting on that river someday! I bet that’s a very fun job, and I’m impressed that you’ve been doing it for so long! I actually have done two videos on the Hoosac Tunnel now: a really bad one in 2022 lol (my first video actually), and a much better one in 2023. It’s such an intriguing site! Also, love that fake legend you made up about the factory, haha! 😂
@@j-mass ill find ya when spring comes and water gets a bit warmer. Even July the water from the reservoir is just getting to its normal temps. May and June can still be chilly kinda crazy. I knew the people who started the company that I work for. I grew up with their kids. Luck of the draw for me. Got hired in high school.
Awesome video! I was wondering if you would ever cover this site.
Thanks man! 🙏 Yeah, it was a long time coming. I wish I had come here before the auction in July, I bet there was so much more to see.
Wow, only just found this channel today, and lo and behold the man himself posts a location I've driven past many a time seeing while friends in Providence. It's definitely interesting to see a theme of neglect and abandonment among all these industrial structures, when you'd think a multimillion dollar project like this would easily find a new prospective team or be used as a more frequent fair grounds/event center. Still, there are worse things to do than building new schooling, which always seems to be in short supply. And heck, one day that school might become abandoned too lol
Oh absolutely, new schooling is crucial for cities like Pawtucket! That being said, it is strange that, like you said, there was no interest in redeveloping this site. I think the stadium could be reused again for other purposes if the right maintenance was done!
Minor error: at 3:43 I meant to say that the Pawtucket Slaters permanently disbanded in 1949, not 1946. Sorry about that! (Pawtucket Slaters fans, please don’t purge me!)
I can just imagine the faces of the security watching a drone fly all over the stadium, didn’t think that would slide with this place but pretty epic find regardless
To be fair, a police officer drove by me as I was launching the drone in the air, and he was perfectly fine with it! 😂 I’m just glad I was able to document this stadium prior to demolition; it’s such an iconic location.
i spoke to a construction worker there last week and theyre currently stripping the building of valuable machinery prepping to demolish it in january
That must have been what they were doing when I was there. While filming, there were a team of workers out in the back of the stadium removing stuff from inside, and loading it into trucks… probably just more liquidation of the site before demolition.
@@j-mass yes i was overlooking your drone footage to see if i could see the same thing lol, also just wanted to let you know you make awesome videos and im a pawtucket local and would love to fill you in on some abandoned spots you could do videos on. you should check out Conant Thread of central falls, its a mill complex built in 1835 that suffered a fire in 2020. you might already know about it, adress is 400 pine st central falls if you would like to look into it. i also pretty much use your channel as a bucket list to find places to explore.
Thank you so much dude, I appreciate that! 🙏 I have heard of Conant Thread, but I haven’t been over there yet. I’m definitely gonna have to check it out soon then, sounds like a dope spot! I also wanna hit that abandoned train station in Pawtucket some day too, although I heard that place is filled with squatters 😂
love this stadium! wish i could go to one more game there!
I wish I could have gone to a game before it closed down! 😢
cornballs
So.. obviously you folks don't worry ir think about the extremely high potential of bed bugs ir anything.. sitting around on furniture etc.. 🤔
Oh believe me, I was way too scared to sit on that furniture myself 😂 I had no clue what was lurking underneath those cushions. They had more guts than I did to sit there!
Amazing deduction skills😂 ashes! Someone probably lit a fire!
Showing off my critical thinking skills for sure! 😂
Cuh- mill- us. 😂🫶 Killin me my dude Lived here my whole life Great video! Very insightful! Ty ❤❤
Don’t let Don Voudren catch you down there. Seriously.
My neighbor used to use that place to store equipment and concrete forms. Illegally of course. I used to help him move things in/out of there for size money since they're back was wrecked. You used to be able to get a small truck in/out of there pretty easy.
FYI: It was not abandoned in 1996. Two sisters lived in it until they died a few years ago.
Thank you! I knew that the two sisters owned it, but I was not aware that they actually lived in it! Based on my research, it seemed that it was a property they inherited and owned, but not actually lived in. I appreciate the clarification!
I wouldn’t recommend anyone go here. There is a nosey neighbor that lives right next door and took photos of my plate and had cops at my house for trespassing. This guy is a complete douchebag. Some Russian asshole.
Fun fact: @23:05 you can see the silhouette of a mountain (center of screen) locally known as "Sleeping Giant". It's a state park in Hamden, CT resembling a "sleeping giant" on the horizon.
Reminds me of the B&M Bean plat in Portland - I wonder if it was the same builders?
J-Mass, good stuff, new sub here, be safe out there man!
Thank you so much! 🙌
As I understand Eugenics, it was a system of preventing people with disabilities and mental disorders, etc, from reproducing, I’m not agreeing with it, I’m just telling it like it was, back than. Byberry State Hospital was closed in the 80’s due to similar mistreatment, My Grandmother was a nurse, and visited Byberry, in NE Philadelphia, many years ago, and witnessed the horrific maltreatment of the patients. Hence, Governor Casey closed it down in the 80’s, the problem is, there are mentally Ill people in Prisons, that do not receive the care and treatment that thry so desperately need, and do not take their medication when released. It’s a 💩show!
Why knows, maybe some of the people in Peru in South America wish they could visit Peru, Massachusetts.
Always a possibility! 😂
How sad .... it must of been a great place.
Hey, as someone who was born and raised in this weird little town, why didn’t you show any of the three Dunkin’ Donuts representing the steady gentrification of this “picturesque New England town.” Or highlight that according to the 2022 Census, 5% of Groton residents live below the poverty line, and many close to it. Being somewhere in the middle, and not having classist parents, I had friends in elementary school who had multi-level heated pools in their back yard, and some of my friends had no yard at all. Not totally as “affluent” as you say, with a socio-economic disparity that local politicians refuse to talk about or address. This all affects the schools’ social dynamics. Also, cool little fact, “All Are Welcome” was actually fairly controversial when it went up as a town motto marking the borders of Groton, with some of the more “affluent”, as you repeatedly say asking, “what about terrorists?” “What about illegal immigrants?” and the poorer people wondered, “are we only welcoming the rich? “MAGA?” This was in 2017. The motto was first proposed during the Trump administration and was even debated at town hall meetings. Embarrassing. I will say, I appreciate the nice history project you did on the town, and I agree that Bancroft castle is great for a picnic in the summer or a seance in October. I also really liked that you highlighted the Temple. Just know that you really failed to characterize how messed up the town is today. Four out of five castles seems a bit generous. Thanks, bro.
Thank you so much for the response, I appreciate that, as well as the insight and your own experiences! When summarizing an entire town in less than 20 minutes, I definitely agree that I wasn’t able to analyze it in full, or as tediously as I’d like to! I grew up just two towns away from Groton, and I have quite a personal connection to the town, having family from there. Being so closely engrained with Groton, I do truly view it as a quaint New England town in every sense, even despite the clear commercialism that’s there now. Also, I do agree that the economy there is much more diverse than I may have led on! While Groton is objectively a pretty wealthy town in the grand scheme of things, especially in relation to other New England towns, that doesn’t mean everyone is rich for sure. Thank you so much for your response, I always love hearing from those who live there! Very interesting tidbit about the “All Are Welcome” slogan!
