Well, 1 town done, 350 more to go! 😂 Since this was the first episode of many, I want to improve the series with each entry! What did you think of the format? Anything you would add or remove? What else should I cover in these towns I review? Any and all ideas and criticisms are welcome!
Nice work! Have you been to The Groton Hunt? Hiking trails in woods and along Nashua River and the site of a former Fox hunting grounds. So pretty cool old remnants from the hunt as well as memorials.
That sounds really cool-no, I have not personally been there! I am familiar with the Groton Hunt as they used to own Bancroft’s Castle, but I didn’t know that those remnants of trails still existed! Very cool!
@@j-mass Yes -- it is super cool. There's an old stone memorial bench, stone water trough, and a memorial/grave to one of the hunting horses that died in 1929 in the middle of the woods by the river. Definitely check it out!
Great video J-MASS, very interesting and informative. This is going to be a great series. Keep up the good the good work. Looking forward to the next 350 episodes ✌🏻🇺🇸
Great video man - really interesting and well put together. The drone footage was great and the editing was done really well. You piqued my interest enough that my daughter and I are planning a trip to Groton next month. Really well done brother, you just keep raising the bar. Looking forward to more of this video series.
Beautiful area! I particularly like the town of Harvard, with its many outdoor offerings and historic sites. Very good job on the script and editing. Definitely looking forward to more of your town videos 😀
Thank you so much, I appreciate that! I agree, I absolutely love Harvard as well! I can’t wait to cover the history of the Fruitlands and the transcendentalists movement there!
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦀 I must say you did one hell of a job reviewing Groton. There's such a rich and long history. I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed your review. Jason if ever you're heading to the cape to review something I would love to meet you and shake your hand, you're doing an absolutely fantastic job dude. Be safe out there ✌️🇺🇲
Groton sure is an interesting place with many notable events taking place there, as well as many notable and important people to Massachusetts, and all of the United States in general! Groton has seen much more conflict than other areas of Massachusetts as well as some economic depression. Yet it is very wealthy today! This is great see, I think this is sort of the spirit of Massachusetts in a way!
True, Groton has many gorgeous historical houses! At 3:05 you can see the Governor George S. Boutwell House, which is one of the most historically significant in the center of town!
@peterruddick1952 If you have a special interest in architecture and you're local to MA, you can visit Groton too! If you're not, there are likely additional resources online to discover more. I originally started following J-MASS as a way to get inspired and learn about places that I too could explore, some of which I have. I see his videos as an invitation and a tool to pique interest. Also, he's creating a condensed sampling of what each town has to offer; he can't possibly include it all in a 20 minute segment which has been filmed in 1-2 days, including epic drone footage. Plus, being the first one, it's already phenomenal and I'm sure we'll all be sticking around to see how the series evolves. Cheers!
Hey, as someone who was born and raised in this weird little town, why didn’t you show any of the three Dunkin’ Donuts representing the steady gentrification of this “picturesque New England town.” Or highlight that according to the 2022 Census, 5% of Groton residents live below the poverty line, and many close to it. Being somewhere in the middle, and not having classist parents, I had friends in elementary school who had multi-level heated pools in their back yard, and some of my friends had no yard at all. Not totally as “affluent” as you say, with a socio-economic disparity that local politicians refuse to talk about or address. This all affects the schools’ social dynamics. Also, cool little fact, “All Are Welcome” was actually fairly controversial when it went up as a town motto marking the borders of Groton, with some of the more “affluent”, as you repeatedly say asking, “what about terrorists?” “What about illegal immigrants?” and the poorer people wondered, “are we only welcoming the rich? “MAGA?” This was in 2017. The motto was first proposed during the Trump administration and was even debated at town hall meetings. Embarrassing. I will say, I appreciate the nice history project you did on the town, and I agree that Bancroft castle is great for a picnic in the summer or a seance in October. I also really liked that you highlighted the Temple. Just know that you really failed to characterize how messed up the town is today. Four out of five castles seems a bit generous. Thanks, bro.
Thank you so much for the response, I appreciate that, as well as the insight and your own experiences! When summarizing an entire town in less than 20 minutes, I definitely agree that I wasn’t able to analyze it in full, or as tediously as I’d like to! I grew up just two towns away from Groton, and I have quite a personal connection to the town, having family from there. Being so closely engrained with Groton, I do truly view it as a quaint New England town in every sense, even despite the clear commercialism that’s there now. Also, I do agree that the economy there is much more diverse than I may have led on! While Groton is objectively a pretty wealthy town in the grand scheme of things, especially in relation to other New England towns, that doesn’t mean everyone is rich for sure. Thank you so much for your response, I always love hearing from those who live there! Very interesting tidbit about the “All Are Welcome” slogan!

Nice, you presented some new things I did not know about Groton. Job Shattuck was my 6th g-grandfather.
Wow, that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing!
recently moved to nearby Ayer- this video is extremely informative, and you clearly put lots of time into research and presentation. thank you
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!
My wife and I really enjoy your presentations. Glad we found your channel.
I really appreciate that, thanks so much! 🙌

I absolutely agree! In many ways, Groton is a quintessential Massachusetts town with its rich, storied history!
KING J-MASS! Love the video dude! Such a cool town
Thanks so much man!
Got to do ayer next then devens!
I’ll absolutely be doing those ones soon! Devens will be an interesting village to cover with all of that military history!
Dam, That Rock Reminds of Deed's Rock right now... 16:09
It’s definitely quite similar to that!
I'm watching the fuck out of this series
W video
Thanks! 🙌
We have a Bancroft Tower here in Worcester Massachusetts. Don’t know if the families were related.
I’ve been there a ton! Not sure if they are, but I always wondered that. May have to do some digging into that…
After Massachusetts can you do this series for new Hampshire
I was definitely thinking of eventually covering some of the towns and cities in other New England states, like New Hampshire!
Wait so your going to every town in Massachusetts?
Yep, all 351 of them! I’ve personally been to 347 towns and cities on my own already, but I’ll be returning to document each one in this series.
👍
FIRST!
Second! 😂
@@j-mass I'm already excited for this can't wait to see you come to Worcester!
Groton has many historical colonial homes... would like to have seen some of those and less pizza and mushrooms
