Wild Camp Northumberland.
Hello!
Just me and my friends hiking to wild and lonely places to sleep under starlight. We camp mainly in Northumberland because that's where we live, one of England's fantastic counties with endless moor and forest and the wonderful Cheviot Hills. We camp, we hammock, we bivvy and we bothy. Love it all!
Thank you everyone!

Christmas Wild Camp in the Nordisk Telemark. Sprouts, cigars and pheasants. And too much port
I always look forward to this, a Christmas Camp with great friends.
A decanter of port, a secret santa, pheasant, parsnip and sprouts and a gentlemans cigar.
All the ingredients for a wonderful christmassy night.
It's only once a year and if we go a bit daft forgive us!
All the best and seasons greetings.
Have a wonderful Christmas

A quick overnight camp in one of Northumberlands 271 hillforts. The fort, one of the most accessible in the county, lies in a historic landscape dotted with burial cists and prehistoric rock art. I met with a friend recently who had been to this location, that used to be a favourite hiking spot of mine. I hadn't been back for many, many years and I thought this could be a great opportunity for a wild camp. The place is reputedly the haunt of the fae, so I was going alone. This particular moor is one of my favourite places in Northumberland, it is crowded with history from prehistoric hillforts and rock art to burials and abandoned farms. This time I wanted to explore part of the moor I have never been before and as I didn't know what I'd be camping on I relied on the Hilleberg Akto, not the lightest single person tent I have, but definately the most robust. Your sense of humour is right up my street!... Your taste in trouser colour not so much. hahaha, cheers graham
Lol 😂, thank you. Those trousers in funny colours tend to be the cheapest at the montane factory shop though- maybe because nobody else wants them 😂
@@grahamswildcamping haha, I may have to make a visit to the montane outlet soon. Most my clothes seem to have shrank over the Christmas period. 🤔 Moneys too tight to mention so I shall get the most colourful troosers they have. 👌
@@paulmortal7611 my clothes are shrinking too 🤔 Must be something in the air🤔🤔😂😂

I'm not in the North East anymore and I glamp instead of camp, because me backs knackered. Brilliant, I love a bit of glamping and we must keep standards up! I think we are lucky with our accent, it’s one of the best. I hope my videos remind you of Northumberland! ATB, Graham 👍
@grahamswildcamping I was fortunate my dad had a lot to do with the cadets and they had a farmhouse on forestry landI money couldn't buy the childhood I had although it would likely horrify those that like to tell us the correct way to bring our kids up these days
@@lesleycrosby6260that sounds perfect, a free range childhood. Hard to get the kids off video games these days!
Good bit of grub there 😋
Thanks, we really enjoyed it!
Nice set up you have there! I just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to checking out many more videos :)
Thanks for the sub! I like that little setup, used it a few times. Hope you enjoy watching some of the videos, ATB, Graham 👍👍
Merry Christmas to one and all! Never too much port!
Same to you! And mind, I now do think there is a level beyond which port is not beneficial though.
Love the decanter Graham. Merry Christmas! 😊
Merry Christmas! The decanter added a touch of gentlemanly class but I won’t be taking it on every camp 😂 🎄👍👍
Merry Christmas mate all the best that was a cracking camp. Looks like a lovely bothy and that dinner looked amazing. See you next year 🎉
Merry Xmas! See you next year hopefully!
looked like a cracking night out with friends for a Christmas night in a bothy the meal looked fantastic that 80s Christmas was just like one of mine a BMX with small wheels happy Christmas Graham atvb jimmy😎😎👍👍
A BMX? Magic Jimmy, bet they were a lot of folk’s favourite presents in the 80’s. ATB mate and merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄👍🎄🎅☃️
Thanks for the mention - you look pretty grim at the end 😆
It was all fun until the morning- it wasn’t pretty if I’m honest. Spent all day ill. Ah well, only once per year.
Merry Christmas to you and your family Graham. If you ever get a chance to reproduce your wonderful hoody, I would be the first in line to buy one. It looks great!
Hi Tami, Merry Christmas to you! Thank you very much, DM me in the New Year- sure we can sort something out 🎄🎅🎄👍
Nice one Graham. I did port on my last Christmas camp (as far as I Can remember) 😂 Have a great Christmas mate 🎄🏕️
Ah, port, the downfall of many a good gentleman. I’m glad it’s only once a year! ATB mate, Graham 🎄🎅🎄
Some bothy that, like😊. Great stuff too. Knew it wasn't ever grim up north. Positively sunny far as I can tell😊. Great stuff n what a cracking bunch of mates you have too🫡⚖️🎅
It’s a great bothy, credit to the folk that maintain it. The weather isn’t often that sunny but the our friends and the stuff we enjoy brings the light! Merry Christmas mate, ATB, Graham 🎄🎅🎄

Great video and that scran... WOW!!!! Merry Christmas Graham
Thank you! Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🎅☃️⛄️
Merry Christmas mate, great video and food looked amazing.
Thank you mate, not a bad dinner as it turned out, Merry Christmas !
Hi Graham, thanks for the video. Great to see other people enjoying Spylaw. Question, did you cook the pheasants in the oven? Just the last time I tried to use the actual over I could not even heat a pizza up. Drying the wood is an issue as if we leave it outside people burn it, that's the reason it all inside, so takes an age to dry.
Hi Paul, thanks for your continued maintenance of Spylaw. We all agreed that the place has improved over the last few years with the stove, the front grass maintenance and general weatherproofing. I think Shaun cooked the pheasants in the oven but they did get a stove top start- I’ll ask him. I know the reasons the wood is kept inside 😉 it’ll be burnable in time, we all appreciate it but carry in extra wood. Thanks again, ATB, Graham 👍🎄
@@grahamswildcamping Hi Graham, Thanks for the positive feedback, I'll pass your thanks onto the Explorer Scouts who go up on Service weekends, splitting all the wood, I just use the chainsaw and lawn mower. Hope to have some more improvements for 2025 after we have secured a grant from Wingates Windfarm. Have a great Christmas.
Nice video Graham. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Hi mate, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄🎅
Nice camp Graham! tent looks smart however the glass doesnt lokk very ultralight! hahaa ATB for xmas Steven
Thanks I do like the tent I’ll be using it a lot and future, but I think I’ll leave the decanter at home most times. Adds a touch of class mind, ATB, Graham 🙏🎄🎅
I am not surprised you were feeling a bit rough.it might be due to all the whiskey you all drank. But l am pleased you all had had a great time,(if you remember it).Happy Christmas Graham.x

Hi 👋 Graham from Gateshead here, I am new to your channel and really enjoyed your video! I didn’t realise there was so much to see in our neck of the woods so I am planning on venturing out next spring to explore these fascinating places (I have only done a couple of beach bivy overnighters in the north east)
Hey, thanks, nice to hear you enjoyed the video! Tons of great places to explore and camp in Northumberland, hope you enjoy your explorations next spring! ATB, Graham 👍👍
Great video. With the history of the land mate hope you had a cracking camp!

@@DeanCoulsonOfficialPage hey, thanks Dean, I’d like to say I miss my hair, but looking back, it looks absolutely terrible😂 Yep, get out and do a bit of wild camping. You know it makes sense, ATB Graham 👍
was there last August - difficult to find the path - loads of reforesting - remnants of Arwen?
I think the path has mainly been obscured as a result of forestry operations, there was a lot of old brash wood but not many (wind) downed trees. I think I'll let Storm Arwen off on this one, despite the terrible damage it caused elsewhere, TFW, ATB, Graham 👍
Archeologist 🤣🤣
I wish! I sometiemes wish I'd done my primary degree in archaeology instead of what I did but I'm happy enough where I ended up anyway. Swings and roundabouts!
Wow what a great spot, fantastic mate. I would love to find it.
It’s a really special spot- not too hard to find with a bit of homework! ATB mate, G👍
Great camp, love the research and history you talk about.
Thanks mate 🙏👍👍
Did you find it difficult to transition from a tent to hooped bivvy?
No, I’ve always used both despite being a tent man at heart. I find hooped bivy is best in winter when there are no insects about. I made the mistake of taking the Alpkit Elan to Harwood in summer and spent the night zipped up because of the midges- very claustrophobic
Your toupee joke was hil-hair-ious
I made it up……it was a bald-faced lie 😂
@@grahamswildcamping 🤣
Oh a friend of mountain hopper. I'm sure I put Adrian onto the trailstar. been watching Tony Hobbs for years and he loves his trailstar. Those hill forts I suspect were for something else besides defence. Imagine a fort that can't stand anything other that a week long siege.? No water.
Hello! Tony Hobbs is a good watch, I’m sure his reviews have helped many folk in their decisions. The trailstar looks great. I think you’re right, the hill forts must’ve had a variety of uses besides defence. Defence was probably part of their function though and as you say, they certainly would not stand up to a long siege (mediaeval castle style) but would probably be sufficient enough to put off reading parties et cetera. ATB , Graham, 👍
New subscriber gained! Loved the vid mate
Brilliant, glad you liked it and welcome to the channel, thanks for the sub 👍👍
Looks like a great little quiet place to camp above Rothbury. I never ate as well as you do when I was camping 😅
There’s some lovely little places to camp above Rothbury, Simonsides reward exploration I’ve found. If it’s gonna be cold I always try and eat well, no place for salad in a winter bivy! Thanks very much , ATB, Graham 👍
Spot on Graham, looked like a nice chilled out camp, nothing better, good set up too with some great kit you have mate👌. You need to get yourself a trailstar you’ll not regret it, especially when the wind picks up, they shed the wind great, and easy to pitch, good watch mate, atb Mick 👍
Thanks, enjoyed this little camp. Yeah, that trailstar did catch my eye, it looked a quality well thought out bit of kit. I might look at getting one in the New Year. ATB, G 👍👍
