Exploring & Wild Camping in the Hilleberg Akto

- This particular moor is one of my favourite places in Northumberland, it is crowded with history from prehistoric hillforts and rock art to burials and abandoned farms.
This time I wanted to explore part of the moor I have never been before and as I didn't know what I'd be camping on I relied on the Hilleberg Akto, not the lightest single person tent I have, but definately the most robust.
Accompanied by @northumberlandmountainhopper who was testing out his new MLD bivvy and by that gentleman, raconteur and lover of fine tobacco Shaun MC (@macinthewild8116 )
Dinner was a ration pack of Indonesian pork and rice- not as good as sauasages- but not bad at all and I finished the night with a tasty and delicious malbec- very cheeky it was.
Thank you and welcome aboard for the trip,
All the best, Graham

Still my favourite wild camping channel. Probably biased being based up North but always really enjoy your trips out Graham. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thanks, I’m honoured, particularly considering all the other wild camping channels out there! Cheers, ATVB, G 👍👍
I too was crushed at a school disco many years ago at age 14. By 11stone 8lbs Margaret Davidson. Totally worth it and thumbs up in a kind of masochistic way👍 Love the video Graham, your cinematography is real class😎 ktf 🙏
Ah, that sounds like a memory that has haunted you! Thank very much, appreciate your comment, ATB, G 👍👍
nice one Graham ⛺ good to see you in the akto & happy with your altras 👍
Thank you- and thanks for the recommendation, they are suiting me well so far 👍
Well Graham I watch your channel for the history and knowledge of the area your camping or exploring and because your a mate 😊 the dad jokes and beer reviews are class.
That looked like a good slog and it definitely would have been a nightmare if it was raining glad yous found a pitch atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thanks Jimmy, that’s praise indeed coming from one of the big guns like yourself. Glad you’re enjoying the beer reviews and dad jokes 😂 it was a pretty easy walk really and I don’t think I’ll be that way over the moor again, not much in the way of pitches, but as always, just fantastic to be out.
ATB mate, G 👍
Great job G, enjoyed it immensely. Glad you’re shoes are sorted 👍
@@dpimperton thanks DD, yeah the boots are much more comfortable. I won’t whinge as much on the next long distance walk 😉 (probably)
Slim pickings up the moors that way for wildcamping, but you lads did alright as always. I've been to those crags, but never saw any caves there, mind I wasn't looking for any either lol.
One of the reasons why I like your channel is because you're always out exploring and finding new places to pitch up in, or different routes to places I know. Enjoyable as always - mind last weeks dad joke will be hard to beat, I can't even remember what it was, just that I laughed a lot. Cheers Graham, keep 'em coming :)
Thanks Donna, that’s what I like about your videos too, the element of exploration and not quite knowing where you’ll end up, but that’s a massive part of the experience and fun. There was slim pickings indeed over that side of the moor but great pitches elsewhere closer to the southern end. Still, worth a bimble. Cheers and thanks very much, G 👍👍
Great again mate , don’t know about the dad joke mind but definitely brought back memories the 80s school disco 😝👍🏻, love the craic mate , great area to explore up there too , thanks Graham, atb Deka 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it mate, that wine review seems to have struck a chord with a few folk- must be a common memory at these school discos! ATB, G👍
Nice one Graham 👌
@@markwood5853 thanks mate- and thanks for the coffee 👍 👌
Good video mate. Cannot beat the good old Northumberland. Hope you enjoyed your camp mate 🍻
Thank you, yes, I enjoyed this little camp. Always love getting away for a night under stars in the middle of nowhere, TFW, Appreciate it, ATB, G👍

Thank you, hope you have a good weekend too, ATB, G 👍
Lovely area that Graham, good for when the weather’s not the best as it not too high
It is, it’s a smashing place. Not too high! Easy walking for lazy souls like me 😂

Hello Graham.. Found your channel whilst watching Mountain Hopper’s videos.. Great watch and those Dad joke’s really crack me up ! I too had my heart crushed at the junior school disco - Still Painful 😂
Hello fellow Graham, glad you’re enjoying those terrible jokes! Painful school memories eh? We’ve all gottem! ATB, G 👍👍
👍 Thumbs up for getting ' sub-optimal' in a camping film 👍😄
A much under-used phrase. Handy for a lot of situations 👍 😂
Nice one lads 👍
@@jimmy.mccutcheon.1961 thanks Jimmy 👍👍👍
Great video, bad joke lol, glad you all found a spot.
Well, I won’t argue about the joke 😂 Thank you very much, appreciated 👍👍
Great video mate, its great to have an explore isnt it.
I think so, it can be a huge part of the experience for me
More hacking than a Sunday league football match Graham! I must admit I've came across a few overgrown entrances in my lifetime as well and had to give up because I couldn't find my way in! Usually after a few strong Candalorians mate!! Great video thanks for sharing the experience.
Haha, well that’s one way of putting it 😂 ATB, G 👍
@@grahamswildcamping 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍💯
Nice one Graham, it’s unbelievable what beautiful Northumberland has to offer, no matter where you go. That area is stunning and has that added spooky feel in my opinion. Enjoyed as usual mate, Atb Dave 👍
Yeah, we’re lucky in having all of Northumberland to explore and that moor I agree has an eerie feel at certain times, ATB, G 👍
I wear the altar Olympus 5 gtx and they have been a game changer ,most comfortable footwear I've ever worn ,love them
If these altras prove good in the longer term then I’ll be looking at a goretex version as well, thanks, G 👍
Cracking video Graham, loving your channel, just subscribed from a fellow RUclipsr 😉👍
Ah, thanks very much, I’ll check out your channel as well, cheers, G 👍
No problem and thanks👍
Wild camping in the wilds of Northumberland enjoying a hot drink from a galaxy far, far away.......

I said…….oh, never mind
I’ll see myself out
Another good video 👍🏻what’s the smock jacket you are wearing Graham ?
Thank you, it’s a garphyttan smock 👍👍
@@grahamswildcamping looks a cracking garment 👍🏻
@@barryfogerty7132 it is, it’s my new favourite 👍
I'm starting to worry the dad jokes are getting a bit too good, I'm definitely gonna be stealing that one 😂
For lighter weight shoes that are going to wet out, it's worth just grabbing a small plastic bag from the corner shop to keep them in the tent I find, they dry out pretty quick if there's body heat nearby and as a bonus it keeps the slugs out
@@_NickB_ I don’t think there’s any worry they’re getting too good 😂 but you’re welcome to it, G 👍
Thanks for the tip 👍👍
I think you got egg on your face with that hen joke 😆
@@jimmyf9152 haha! Love it 😂😂
Hi there which map do you use for that area I’ve been to old bewick a few times but cannot find a decent map of the area 👍
I use paper Ordnance Survey 1:25000 at home and just the OS app on an iPhone with the yearly subscription 👍
Most of the moor is on the OS 332 Alnwick and Amble paper map
