Why We Quit Our Jobs and Moved To The Mountains
Why I Quit My Dream Job and Started Living a Simple Dream Life: It's days like these that remind me why we gave up everything and moved to the mountains with no plan. To move back to the place I grew up exploring as a kid. This place is home, always has been, always will be. I left it to pursue a dream job, then meet my dream companion in the process, and it's back full circle to the place that inspired me to love the outdoors and the northeast in general, with the person I love most. Winter is moving in and it's time to say goodbye to the last days of autumn here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Or is it? Theres an inner child in all of us that can't be contained and is always re...

MMBR BIKEPACKING Adventure Route | Episode 4
I’m just a few minutes in and few things jumped out. E-bikes? (Ariel?). Also trout and coffee vibe if ya know what I mean in the intro
This video is awesome - thanks for sharing it. The NE weather (especially October) was wonderful this year. Your statement at 10:19 sums it up perfectly for sure. I rode your Perch Pond route on one of those glorious October days. I noticed in this video that the creepy red house from a previous video is still standing !
What a great video. As someone that lives in the Perch Pond Road area, I sit here looking at the snow outside and can relive this beautiful ride with your video. Thanks so much for doing what you do..
Just when I was thinking it’s been a while since That Mountain Moment posted, you drop a 30 minute banger. Really awesome video!
Wow thank you! So glad you liked it. Took some time off after we lost Buddy but the motivation to make videos is back again. Very grateful to have so many patient subscribers like you and to be able to connect with. Hope all is well with you.
@ I’m so sorry to hear about Buddy! The loss of such an amazing companion is incredibly difficult.
Welcome back thought you guys had gone off cruising 😮, the best 30 mins I’ve spent in a long time, random simplicity, great you bounced back unexpectedly to disrupt the flow in a real good inspiring way…as you say moments like these don’t last forever…take them while you can…
There it is! I always look forward to hearing your well crafted comments! It's so good to hear from you and been too long. Much needed brake though after losing Buddy. Took a while to get our rythm back but feeling grateful and inspired again. Thanks for be patient with us and still watching. Man, I really missed all the interactions on here.
@@ThatMountainMoment Firstly so sorry to hear about your loss of Buddy. It’s good to take a step back and focus on what’s more important in life. RUclips is a hungry beast and can survive for a while, good things are worth waiting for when your videos land. When I see your video landscape it reminds me of Scotland 🏴 . Have a great week.
Another great video, really captured that fall vibe of last chances before winter. The intro with the images in the camera body, so so good!
Thanks Brian! That's an editing thing I've been wanting to make for a while but didn't have the right song for it until this video. I'm glad you liked it. Happy holidays!
Thanks for taking us along on these most vibrant days of autumn. I especially enjoyed the downhill trail sections. You two have some skillzzz!!! And, what's with riding in sandals? Didn't your Dad tell you that you'd lose a toe?!?!?! 😂 Great vid!
Oh ha ha, I changed into sandals after that mtb ride at the parking lot but I do sometimes ride my gravel bike in sandals if it's a chill kinda day. I'd never mtb in sandals though, that's just asking for trouble ha ha. Did you get outside and enjoy some time in nature thus week?
@ThatMountainMoment i can never ride a bicycle in sandals... EVER! 🤣😂 I'm still convinced I'll lose a toe! The old man cursed me! 😅 And, as a matter fact, I did get outside. I tried out some DIY studded tires for winter riding. Video is on my channel if anyone is interested.
@charmontravel oh cool, I'll check it out tonight!
@@ThatMountainMoment AWESOME!
The music in this one was so calming and meaningful. How wonderful would it be to have beautiful music accompanying our every day lives !😃
Just once, I would like to experience autumn in New England. This video is probably as close as I'll come. You bring joy to more people than you know.
That's really the main reason I enjoy making them. I love thevefiting process and the creative flow of it andvthen hitting that upload button in hopes that maybe it adds a bit of positivity to someone's day. I had a lot of plans for autumn filming thus year but when our dog passed away it put everything on the back burner. Next year we'll capture as much autumn as possible for you and everyone that watches. Are you a winter enthusiast, we have plenty of that stuff coming soon. I do have one more late late autumn video I want to finish soon but admittedly I'm behind seasonally with it since everyone wants winter videos currently. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Hope all is well with you. Happy holidays
I live in Henniker and would love to ride with you folks someday.
That would be awesome. Let's make sure we do that next season. Haven't done any riding in Henniker but that area is high on the list for next year. Lots of great routed down there by the looks of it.
@ I’ve got a great 35(ish) mile gravel loop that includes a cool cemetery and a coffee stop.
@ I’d also like to come up your way and ride some gravel. I love being in the Whites.
@jimairgood9076 well that hits every note ha ha. Is it on ride with GPS app?
@@ThatMountainMoment it’s on strava. Look for Dirty Henniker.
Your videos just feel so good to watch. Pure mellow escapism pleasure. Thanks to both of you.
That's so nice to hear our videos described in such a way and there's no bigger compliment than knowing you watched a 30minute video in its entirety. I know we all have other things going on in life so carving out a half hour of your day to include our video is very humbling and I'm so appreciative of that.
This made me feel so happy in my heart. Mid way through I realized I had been smiling uncontrollably. Pure escapism from the crazy world we live in. What a gift to the world this was. You out did yourself this time and I love the long form video. Felt like I was watching an actual TV show. So patient and calm in the pacing. Netflix needs to give you guys a reality show. Just wow! As Caleb would say. Nikki always makes me laugh out loud.
It's so good to hear from you and everyone after our break from Buddy passing away. It reminds me how much I value everyone on here in our community. Always nice to hear your kind words.
Really enjoyed the longer content & welcome back!
Thank you! I'm starting to get back to frequent uploads. I appreciate that you took the time to watch a 30 minute video, that means a lot. Great to hear from you!
@@Pedal_Ton I hope they make more like this.
The writing was author quality. I hope many see this video. The sound of a loon is so lonely.
It took many drafts to get it where I was happy with it ha ha. I'll get more efficient at this style as I make more of them. Hands down my favorite one to create. Hope everyone enjoys it and shares with others.

Thank you!!! My wife and I always enjoy your videos. Makes us want to go to the woods. Many blessings to you both.
Thank you, I'm so glad it made you want to go out in nature. That's the ultimate compliment. Happy holidays to you both. Great to hear from you again btw. Hope all is well.
You have inspired us more than you will ever know
@rodneyking6910 oh wow. I'm humbled by such a statement. The feeling is mutual to you and everyone on here that subscribes and shares our videos. I love this little community of like minded people.
A lot of people say that a leather boot isn’t enough for that ski… and I should go with the 98. Wondering if you’ve tried a 98 and your thoughts on boot ski combo?
It depends in how you plan to use it. Our boots are the exoskeleton style but a soft boot. Not even as stiff as the leather B.C. boots but we use them more to tour than prioritize the descending stiffness but I will say that even on tight twisty decents I've never felt like it was a problem. Can still parralel turn them and Tele turn them no problem. The 112s offer more lateral support and I think the wider ski actually negates the need for a stiffer boot because the width is assisting in the lateral stability. I feel that people expect an alpine touring setup peeformance where you can rip turns like a hard boot in steep alpine terrain but that's not what these skis are about for the most part, although they can do that with the proper binding boot combo such as a really light weight apline touring setup or a hard boot Tele set up but at that point id rather have an alpine touring setup with skins and a real ski boot to optimize that type of terrain. These will get you up and down no problem but they really excel in rolling terrain and long sustained climbs and are far more efficient and versatile than a full alpine setup that's more of a one trick pony. These truly glide with a beautiful bouncy in deep powder where an alpine touring is more of a shuffle than a glide. Even a stiffer leather boot would help the turning response on the 112s But if your trying to tour and cover ground efficiently, be more comfortable, and still have plenty of fun on the downs then the otx bc nnn boot binding combo is awesome and I feel it's what this ski is most in harmony with. There are 3 pin purists out there and that would be about the same control but I like the nnn bc better personally and now there's even better versions of that as well. The 112s also can go out in more conditions than the 98s, obviously deeper snow the 112s are incredible but another advantage is that when the coverage is very thin the 112s will keep you on top of that better and you can make 2inches of snow Feel like much more, effectively giving you more opportunities to get out there. The deeper it is the more fun these are though. Weve got spider 62s otx for firmer snow and hard pac\ touring center stuff, when the big skis aren't necessary, but they still break light trail in a dignified manner because they have metal edges and a bigger climbing scales they are a skinny version of the 112s in every way except the side cut is more straight so they can fit in groomed tracks if needed. We went the two skis on both ends of the spectrum instead if compromising in the middle so we could optimize the deep days and the firmer days. But for years we only used our 112s before buying the 62s. Feel free to ask any more questions, I just took them out today and glad I had the flotation to stay up on top of the little bit of snow we had.
Deerfield river in Charlemont I believe. Beautiful area, used to travel through there for work. Another well done video!
Yes that's the location. It's beautiful there. Charlemont is one of our favorite Berkshire towns.
Come down and ride with me in Henniker next summer.
Would love to. Haven't done any riding down there yet. Thanks for the invite
The Maine dept of tourism should hire you to do a promo video! Incredible filming! Peace, MD
I would love to do that!
Great vid.. you need to remind folks to hit the like button. So many veiws... I'm sure peple are just forgetting! Great place I'm going to plan on visiting next year for sure.
I really do need to be better at that for sure.
Gotta put this one on my short list :- ) Very cool.
It's an awesome experience. One of our favorites
Very nice ! thank you for putting up the route, that is really appreciated. Love the old roads too and the one following the river..so nice.
I really need to make it over to VT for some of those cool roads. Nice filming..! and think the Salsa needs a brake upgrade to hydro..like GRX since you do such great downhills :- )
Glad you enjoyed it. Next season it's time for new bikes in general ha ha. The salsas have been through a lot in the past 8 years now. I'm undecided on hydro or not. I like being able to fix cables on the spot for longer journeys and have had equal problems with hydros in my mtn bikes over the years but they definitely stop better. I'm gonna chock this incident up to the fact that we should have replaced the calipers a while back but we're trying to not put anymore money into these bikes and put it toward the new ones for next year. Oops ha ha! Good to hear from you btw.
I like the ergonomics of the grx stuff too
I could have this stream all day for Christmas. ❤
"Everywhere in VT looks like a postcard" (6:12). SO true ! I rode this route earlier this week on a glorious October day. Felt like I was actually "inside" the postcard ! Really glad I rode this one - @MMR, thanks for sharing it.
@TMM, oops ...
What a week we've had in New England. Wow! So glad to hear you got a great day to check out the route. A Vermont gravel road in autumn feels fake. Like its too good to be true. Happy stick season as of today ha ha.
17:17 i never heard something that it s so damn simple about life. thx :D
We try to keep things pretty simple including our mindset. Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
South a bit down the CT river valley in Chicopee, MA, but VT dirt road exploration on a KLR motorcycle and rail trails on bicycle throughout our entire region is something we enjoy very much! You're a little more ambitious with your gravel road bicycle rides, but your videos and commentaries are great. I've got to plan a motorcycle day to check out the bakery in Jacksonville!
Peaceful videos in areas that are familiar to me. Thanks!
Thank YOU! I'm so glad you enjoy them. Are you from that area specifically?
Love your videos! Always looking for great gravel routes and the road less travelled! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
So glad you enjoy them and thank you so much for tuning in. If you ever need a route recommendation in vermont, New England or the Berkshires feel free to reach out.
I am 100% brand new to skiing of any kind and I'm thinking a setup like yours would be fantastic. I don't wanna go fast or downhill (much) and I would be happy breaking trail uphill. Is your basic setup a great one to start with, assuming I get some lessons and stuff? THANK YOU for such great calming videos.
Yes absolutely they are good for a beginner, the wider nature if the backcountry skis couple with full metal edges offers a lot not control and stability than a typical traditional skinny xc ski with plastic edges that either fit in groomed tracks or skate skiing areas. The width of ours are true trail breaking backcountry skis only as they are much too wide to take to groomed centers or fit in the tracks. Our backcountry skis are Fischer s-bound 112's with a nnn bc binding and backcountry style boots. Absolutely awesome setup but if you want a do it all ski setup that breaks trail respectfully, still has metal edges for control, but also fits in tracks and glided better on groomed trails I would very much recommend our other skis which are the Fischer spider otx 62's and a lighter duty boot and binding that comes with it sold as a lot usually. It's the ski you can take just about anywhere and for almost any condition imaginable other than very deep powder where they just don't have the surface area if the thier big sisters, the 112's. They are quite as fast as a true touring center ski but do glide very well and not quite as robust for breaking trail but we've taken them out on true wilderness tours in deep snow and they handled it in a dignified manner. If you live where snow pack is always deep then the 112's are your ride but if you live where conditions are hit or miss, constantly changing, and you also want to go to some touring centers which are really fun and beautiful also and nice to learn on and want to have a ski that will get you the most days out, then the 62's are the ticket. Feel free to ask more questions. Happy to help.
Here's a couple videos with the 62s to get an idea. ruclips.net/video/WTfjVVUOMpc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/1ctURbGnNsM/видео.html

I rode your Perch Pond route today on a glorious early October day - clear & crisp as it could be. Thanks so much for posting this one with the RWGPS route. The farm with the white barn at the sharp right-hand turn on Pulsifer Road (9:59) was a calendar worthy picture with the fall colors today.
Yes! That corner is amazing! So glad you rode the route and enjoyed it. The reflection off the pond, during foliage, is another picture perfect sight.
I love all your backcountry skiing videos!
Thank you! I know a lot watch for the bike videos so it's nice to hear that. Can't wait to use our new drone in the winter months.
Greetings from Maine! Excellent video. I recently discovered your channel and love how laid back your style of riding is. Very similar to the way that I ride.
Welcome to the channel and the community we've all created on here. Really glad you found our channel and enjoy the style. Where in Maine are you from?
@@ThatMountainMoment I live in a small town about an hour from sugarloaf (if you are familiar with the mountain). I was lucky enough to grow up here so I know where all the gravel roads are.
Oh yeah been to the loaf many times and mountain bike the carrabasset hut to hut trails. Awesome area!
This looks amazing. I'm going to the US in 5-6 weeks, and currently looking for some nice trail running opportunities. Would you recommend this trail in early November? Thanks again for the great video.
Early November, yes it would still be great to run. Still shouldn't be much snow, if any. Just watch for little ice patches as it does get colder in that valley and may be A dusting of snow or frost in the mornings. I always recommend bringing microspikes either way. That trail is in Franconia Notch and it definitely has a more extreme weather pattern in that valley despite only a couple miles from town. It gets windy so plan for it to be colder than wherever you may be staying for lodging. Anything else let me know.
Keep up the great work, editing, capturing. Appreciate when you share the GPS as I am close to you guys in the whites. Thanks for the inspiration. Now I want pot roast. 🤓🚲
Ha ha I need to make this route in ridewithgps. It was an off the cuff ride since its such a familiar area to us. I'll get a route posted today.
