New Canon Rf Lenses! Wheres the Budget friendly lenses, or third party options? Time to switch?
Canon’s high-end lens pricing and restrictions on third-party options have left many of us wondering if they truly care about their budget-friendly customers.
With brands like Nikon, Sony, and Lumix offering more affordable and flexible choices, Canon’s approach seems to cater mainly to high-end users, potentially leaving beginners and casual photographers out in the cold. In this video, I dive into Canon’s lens strategy and question whether they’re supporting entry-level creators or prioritizing profit over inclusivity. Let’s discuss: Is Canon still a good choice for the average photographer/Videographer, or is it time to look elsewhere?

      They have those, but the 24-240 starts at 4 and ends with 6.3 aperture. For comparison, you can get a used tamron 28-200 for around 500-550 bucks and the aperture is 2.8-5.6 Its almost half the size with better aperture, better picture quality and better price..

    I have an R3 and getting an R1. I use all EF lenses purposely as I greatly, greatly prefer EF glass. EF has worked perfectly in my case. Only downside if you prefer RF lenses is that new EF glass will have worse resale value-so just buy them used in that case. I bought my EF glass new for fear that one day, before I die, I may be forced to buy RF glass.

      Yeah, I am spoiled coming from Sony, SOO many other options in so many price ranges! You have about 10 different options in each focal range on price and ranges at apertures you simply can not get reasonably on Canon right now. Nikon and Lumix as well have amazing lenses at super great prices... Canon being the Big Dog, you would think would want to take advantage of that as well. Thanks for watching! 😊😊

    I am just about at the point where I sell off my canon gear and move on to something else. I've been using adapters to meet my needs. I had a few of my old Zeiss lenses for my Contax RTS system and lenses like the 50mm f1.4 are wonderful, even with the adapter...but the downside for some is that you have to shoot in manual mode....big deal...that is what us old timers did back in the day. I think it would be hard pressed to find a big difference between the Zeiss 135mm and the equivalent ef or rf lens. My philosophy these days is to look for 90% of performance for 10% of the cost. As I shoot for fun and for myself....I am not going to pay thousands to canon to MAYBE get marginally better quality digital photos. I believe Canon is making a mistake not making reasonably priced lenses for the enthusiast. I totally agree with your presentation.

      @breakfastforyousoul 16 дней назад

    I bought a R50 a little over a year ago. While I love the pictures. I only have the 18-45 kit lens for it. Last winter I started looking for lens for it. Since I don't have a pile of EF lens floating around. Im like I have to pay how munch for a decant lens. I started looking at Sony around that time, and im like i can get at lest three lens for the cost of Cannon L glass. Recently ive been sucked into the lumix rabbit hole. The lens are cheaper, and you I can adopt pretty munch any lens. The video specs are also way better then any sub 2k cannon or sony.

      YES! People dont get Lumix, until they get an S5II and MAAAAN the value for the money in that camera is insane, great lenses at good prices, especially if you get them used. Thanks for the comments!

    • @Hazel-the-Amazon
      @Hazel-the-Amazon 16 дней назад

      @breakfastforyousoul I think it's because they have been sucked into the Sony full frame/fx30 stuff on social media. All the content creators say you need either of them camera's. To make great content. The thing is most people don't need full frame, or even most of specs of a fx30 for vlogs, or talking head vidoes. When a a6700 or the zv-e10 mark two. Will work the same. If you look at the video specs. It's the same sensor, and same recording specs as the fx30 data wise. I think any one looking to shoot videos mostly. Should download as many unedited log vidoes they can. Of clog, slog, and vlog, and put them in what ever video editor they use. I can see the difference between all three, and the winner is vlog. Another thing is mft gets a bad rap in the picture world. It's more then good enough for hobbiest. Most people will never be able to tell the difference between apsc, full frame, and aft. Unless you told them.

    Yeah if you're new to camera land, Canon is starting to focus on their professional crowd only. Canon's are what cameras you get when your business is doing well, is fast paced and needs a streamlined process. Color grading Canon footage is easier than others, they have lots of codecs for different video industy needs and for photography, their cameras are know as bulletproof and reliable. If you have a Canon, just invest in a good zoom. Then when you're ready to move on, you either chug the cool-aid and triple down cost wise, or begin a new journey with another brand. The Canon lenses, while expensive, certainly hold their value. I think for pro-sumers Nikon and Sony are solid hybrid choices, Panasonic does great video and Fuji, like Nikon, seems to have a promising future. Canon on the other hand, I think has it's tail tucked between it's legs in the prosumer category and is focusing on larger productions. Canon is however, up front in VR/AR/XR video.

It was about 400 odd quid. I could never dream of buying a lens over a grand. When the 80d dies ill prob just get a second hand 90d or something else that takes ef/efs or change brand.

    • @jkteddy77
      @jkteddy77 20 дней назад

      it's STILL the only best bang for buck. That lens is solely keeping Canon APS-C alive, virtually no other f1.8 zoom like it. A Canon M50 is cheap and has fantastic little lenses like the 22mm f/2 pancake. EF-M is dead, but the R50's RF mount is more expensive and cannot adapt the wider spread of EF-M lenses even.

    @druids84 20 дней назад

    Yeah, I've come to the same conclusion that as a non-professional, it's time to ditch the Canon in favor of Sony or Nikon FF, since Nikon has awesome budget/affordable lenses (35mm f1.4, 40mm f2, 50mm f1.4) and both Nikon/Sony have plenty of third-party native mirrorless lenses. Sure, I could continue using the EF lenses with the EF-RF adapter, but that screws the whole balance point of the camera and some of the new stuff is only available for mirrorless-native mounts, like the new Tamron 28-75 G2.

    As a Canon R6MKii user myself I do agree that they are basically shooting themselves in the foot with this whole " we dont want to cross brand our RF mount" nonsense. That being said, They did create a semi affordable range of professional glass away from entry level users, however the variable Fstops are what are deterring any potential new prospect customer from buying those lenses. When I bought my r6mkii I invested in the 50mm1.8 the 16mm, 85mm F2, and the 24-105F4L lens. Apart from those lenses its cheaper and more cost effective to just dish out the 200 bucks on the EF-RF adapter and buy any older EF L Series glass like the 24-70 2.8, the 50mm1.2, the 85mm 1.2, the 70-200 2.8 since they are no longer making EF lenses anymore or DSLR bodies. I've wanted to love my camera but I also find myself hating the fact that Sony has all these lens options for 1/3rd the cost. I'll probably be jumping the Canon ship again at some point too and going back to Sony to a A7rii or A7Riv.

    But... we have a 24mm lens and a 35mm and a 50mm. Not to speak of a 28-70mm zoom... All at reasonable prices. These are already out there for the hobbyists. The ones recently released are for those people who want a bit more weather sealing and quality. What are we talking about here?

      @breakfastforyousoul 20 дней назад

      what about a 55 or a zoom 2.8 for under 800 dollars? 17-28 2.8 under 800, and options for 3rd party an MUCH lower prices. I get it that some would pay extra for the canon glass, thats cool, I just want the option and you do not have that with Canon FF. If you want anything other than the kit lens or basic prime under 1000 you are out of luck or you have to adapt an old lens, but thats just not for me and some others dont want to do that either. Just my opinion, I appreciate your feedback😀

      @breakfastforyousoul I have Canon, Sigma, Zeiss Milvus, Laowa, Rokinon, and vintage m42 lenses. I adapt them all to my R6 MKII and R7. I pity those who feel "limited"...

      @@breakfastforyousoul The one thing I agree with you on is that we could have more Sigma Tamron and others on the RF mount - I am so bummed that I cannot get the Samyang 24-70 on the RF or EF mounts. But I think Canon's non L lenses are really good value and quality and I don't feel as though I am missing (too) much apart from that sweet 24-70. So yes, please Canon open up the RF mount to 3rd parties, but I think they have us covered at the moment

      @@b2gun6s I take your pity, and will enjoy my less expensive Native lenses on my other Cameras. Its great if you have all of the other lenses already and that they work well for you!😊😊 If I had a bunch of older lenses to adapt I would, but why spend that kind of money on older lenses when I can buy new ones for the same price on other systems.... Thanks for watching!😊😊

    4k60 overheating in 35mins in a controlled temp room. Ridiculous. Switched over to Panasonic because of this.

    This is the reason I gave up on canon, I had a canon R and I wanted a prime lens the only ones available at the time were $2k+ and that was WAY more than I wanted to spend. I ended up staying with Sony and eventually added some more expensive glass but I was able to upgrade lenses at my own pace

      Totally Agree! Sony, lumix Nikon all have better lens options for the hobbyist. Thanks for the comments man!

    Yeah that's the good ole greed. They are closing down alternative options to make sure that all purchases are directly through cannon. that's exactly how you close down your market. people will move on to less restrictive camera systems for their lenses because cannon priced themselves out the market.

      Exactly! If enough people speak with their wallets, they will change or at some point Sony may overtake them, Nikon is coming hard too! Thanks for watching man!🙂🙂

    Canon R, does not have many options for a budget. With my Nikon Z5 and Z50, I use Sony E, and Canon EF, with adapters. For me the Nikon Z system, gives me more lens options from lenses I already own. --- I tried to make the Canon R8 work for me. Expensive lens choices kept me from using R8 for what I wanted. The R8 is a good camera, just not for me. I tried it.

      Yeah I hear ya, I like it but with my Nikon and sony, I rarely use it now... Will probably sell it when the a7v comes out. Thanks for watching!🙂🙂

    Great Job on your experience and explanation, I shoot with the sony zve1, a7c, fuji xt1, fuji xt10, just as a hobbyist and for some youtube stuff. There's way to many people RUclips critics on cameras, seems like they're never satisfied with what they own. I like your channel format and explanation, sometimes we have to ask ourselves what is it were chasing, because all of this gear is $$$ for the hobbyist

    If you’re in a camera system already it doesn’t make much sense to jump around to another brand, be it Sony, Nikon, Canon etc especially in the same price range. Panasonic is great for what you get even if it’s older tech. If you need to jump up to higher tier of cameras for pro work (sports organization, film crews, production sets ) then that’s where you have to decide on what brand you need.
