Yanyan Go Around in China
США
Добавлен 22 мар 2020
This channel is a lifetime project I assigned to myself. The channel name refers to half of the project, to go around China. The other half is to read about China, about its history, economics and politics. I've been doing the two for over seven years and I started filming it three years ago (as of 2023).
I try to combine traveling and reading in the videos. Besides showing you the places of interest, I always talk about histories and stories behind them. Sometimes I quote the books I read related to the place.
China has a huge territory and 5000 years of history. In three years, I only covered a tiny bit of it. As I planned, it's a lifetime project.
If you are also interested in China, subscribe to my channel and turn on the notification!

At the beginning of the 21st century, many American Hmong came to China to look for a place called Paj Tawg Lag. The old Hmong name is in their Scripture. In this video, I'll tell you how the name Paj Tawg Lag was decoded, where Paj Tawg Lag is and its position in th...

Thank You! So much! Such an amazing video about TaiSan, I am in love with China, it’s history and its people and food since I was an adolescent. I also climbed TaiSan when I was there, it came to my attention when I read a song/poem about TaiSan by my favorite lyricist Neil Peart from Rush and their album Hold Your Fire and the song -obviously TaiSan- when I was very young and I had the infatuation and mission to visit this mountain an this poem/song I had just heard and read. You give an amazing description of the mountain and its history, what I love the most it’s the natural simplicity which you give its historical facts, there’s only truth and honesty and clarity in your teaching. I love TaiSan, too bad our countries cannot get along or think weird of each other. Congratulations on your video. Peace.

My grandfather was born in Meizhou. He migrated south to Penang with his father when he was just a child. You've offered so many valuable insights in this video that resonated deeply with me. Thanks for that. What a marvellous project you're embarking on.

I love the historical information tied to the Chinese cities and Provinces. Great Job !
I just came back from this museum on my tour to Meizhou as a hakka. Lots of interesting facts.
The Hmong have no script because after Chiyou was defeated, the Han Chinese warlords made sure all books retaining any Hmong scripts were burned. Anyone who was educated and could possibly pass on the teachings was also exterminated. The Han Chinese warlords made sure no evidence was left to be passed on.
Can you dig deeper into the term, “Miao?” Why the Han Chinese use it to refer to us? And why we Hmong find it so offensive? Should we take offense to that term?
From what was explained to me, the pictograph meaning of the chinese character for Miao is two plants growing on a field. The meaning is that Miao people are like the plants that have always inhabited the land. The bad connotation came when we migrated to Laos. Miao is similar to how they say cat. It is seen as an insult saying that you are less than a person, you are nothing more than a beast or animal.
Very educational. Thank you for making these documentaries to trace our roots. So, in essence, we are Chinese.
