    Sol was able to beat Qimir not once, but twice. It's pretty clear that Qimir was not the master because if he was, he'd be a pretty bad duelist for a Sith master.

      @yourlocalmathgeek4815 I thought he had some pretty badass moves. He did mow down a bunch of lower tier Jedi. Sol is just on another level. But my theory is that Qimir just heard the name Sith at some point when he was a Jedi apprentice and now he’s using that. And now Plagueis is coming to shut him up before the Jedi are put on higher alert.

    Cool analysis! I just learned what "minor plagal cadence" was called recently and now I notice it everywhere😆 Even though this isn't exactly that since the Gb is a flat 6 chord and not a minor 4 chord, it still serves kind of the same purpose while being major instead of minor. The original thing of this show compared to other Star Wars product is how much effort is put into the common people. We aren't watching the elite military, or the senators, or the super powerful jedi 90% of the time. Just the common people living, and working. In this show we got not one, but two storyline of the commoner. And also a bit of taste of how the Empire treat it's own loyal citizens as well. Lying to higher ups to please them, changing records, and reports, and even a bit of fear. Sure a lot of other shows have this side in it, but it is usually in minutes before we skip to the big stuff.

Music overall, tho: a little anonymous. Not bad. Not much that stood out. I LIKED a few themes, esp Osha's theme, but now I've begun to "learn the rules" I wonder why Abels keeps breaking them - ascending theme for Osha (and for the Master)? What's with the Kylo-dropping? If we don't get, like, the founding of the Knights of Ren in S2 now I'm gonna be disappointed (and confused). After a dozen listenings, I still don't catch Vader when Rayencourt speaks. (Maybe first three notes of Kylo?) The Master on the other hand MAY have a hint of Vader. In his C-G-Ab-Eb (ascending?? srsly?) you WANT to go (down) to a C (not F#) which would give (Ab-Eb-C) Vader. I'm probably hearing things Abels didn't intend, tho.

      I can only hear the Vader moment with headphones. If you haven’t already, try it that way once. I compared it to a lot of negative but overall I did still like it. I’m a bit theme obsessed though. Haha. Villain these can go up occasionally. Palpatine starts by going up. But this is a bit of an unusual large upward motion. But Abels always sets it so low that the only place it can go is up and it still feels dark and murky to us.

    I loved the John Williams vibe. Abels certainly gave it the Star Wars orchestration and vibe. I love the theme of loss, especially in the ending and end credits of the finale. I do hope s2 has much solidified and prominent themes

    • @starwarsmusicanalysis
      @starwarsmusicanalysis 9 дней назад

      I hope the same. Abels tried something but I don’t think it worked. It’s not what leitmotifs were designed to do. But yeah, the Williams moments were great whenever they occurred.

      @@starwarsmusicanalysis James Newton Howard uses themes like that too. Instead of representing characters he'll be like "this is the love theme - plays whenever anyone is romantic, no matter who" and "this is the heroic theme - plays when ever anyone triumphs, no matter who" etc.

    I think Abels did best when he was allowed to do the horror music. It's his thing. I feel like he should've been allowed to do more of that and less of trying to emulate William's sound, but I think that is more the show runner's fault rather than Abels. Looking at the show as a whole, I feel it is way more lighthearted than it needed to be. In order for Abels to go all out, this show needed a much darker tone, and maybe he was the wrong composer for this series, so I don't blame Abels at all. I do agree that the themes do fall flat. Even Andor, which had the less Star-Warsy music of any show, still had recognizable themes. I could be very wrong, but I just can't shake off the feeling that Abels was micromanaged when composing the soundtrack.

    • @RedCaio
      @RedCaio 10 дней назад

      personally I much prefer the music in Acolyte. Andor didn't have that Star Wars sound imo

    • @starwarsmusicanalysis
      @starwarsmusicanalysis 9 дней назад

      I don’t know if Acolyte ever could truly have been a horror since it was intended to be the flagship of a new era. It had to be accessible to large audiences. But I appreciate them leaning that direction with Abels. I’m not sure how much he would have been micromanaged. I never expected him to be great at adapting themes since that’s not the world he lives in. I even questioned originally whether we would get themes. It’s always hard though to determine what was actually the choice of the composer and what they were told to do.

    The force theme has an incredible identity within the story of Star Wars and I believe its purpose in Dagan’s retreat on Koboh is to serve as a reminder of its meaning aswell as provide a sense of history to it. Throughout Star Wars, The Force theme changes to fit the scene it's portraying. For example, the theme here possesses the elegant and colorful sounds of the High Republic. The choir of young padawans and echoes partakes in the melody depicting the environment’s history, age, and ruin. It brings the familiarity of the Force theme back while also incorporating it into something new, putting a different perspective on it. What I also like about this integration of the Force theme here is how it brings an indication that both the Force and its theme are traditional and everlasting. I also noticed a bit of Merrin’s theme Around 4:02

    • @starwarsmusicanalysis
      @starwarsmusicanalysis 9 дней назад

      Great insights. I think the force theme is always used as a way blanket way to demonstrate something being overcome, a barrier being passed. In that way, it certainly fits here as well as we progress.
