My journey with Citalopram - so far so good!

Hi all, in Vlog 17 I talk about my experience with the anti-anxiety and anti depressant medication 'Citalopram'. This is my first ever positive review of a medication woo! I've been on Citalopram for 7 months now and am loving it. It doesn't make me feel too tired, zombie like, numb etc, it definitely lessens my anxiety and depression, and I didn't have any severe side effects in the first few ...

‘Perspective’ App Recommendation

So here’s a short video about a journaling app that I LOVE! It’s easy to use, bright, organised and has some great features that help me keep track of my moods, emotions, memories and how I’m doing overall from week to week. Like I say in the video, I think this app would be a great tool to take with you to therapy or counselling too - helping to remind you how you felt and for what reasons. He...

I was on duloxetine for 4 months for neuropathic pain. It didnt work. Now ive been tapering for 2 months, worst experience ever. Brain zaps, nausea, diahrea. Doctor never advised me of how to taper, i tried to quit to fast and was a disaster. My locum doctor gave me a schedule for tapering , 1 day off for a few weeks then 2 days off 1 day on. After 2nd day i get brain zaps ,nausea, diahrea. Worst dgug ivef ever taken.

I was just prescribed this drug and pick it up tomorrow. However, I have already decided I will not be taking it and will tell the pharmacist to re-shelve it. Your video is one of MANY that convinced me not to take Cymbalta. My doctor told me nothing about side effects or the risks of getting off it. I am seriously pissed about this and no longer trust this doctor at all.

  • @LeahElisheva

When you first start taking any antidepressant for the first two weeks, you experience the side effects first and then after two weeks they go away then slowly a couple more weeks you start to feel the therapeutic effects. It takes a week or two to get over the side effects that hit first…. but your body does adjust and they do go away. It is also very important to start off on a low dose and then slowly increase …after the side effects go away and you will experience side effects again with the slight increases - but not as bad and for not as long. more of something is not necessarily better. 100 mg of Cymbalta is not therapeutic. studies have shown anything over 60 mg of Cymbalta doesn’t affect any more than 60mg. That is the threshold. studies have shown that all you’re gonna get is more side effects. One should start with 20 or 30 and be on that for a couple weeks before you even consider increasing …because it takes a while before the therapeutic effects even take place Must give it time. That goes for any SSRI or SNRI

My temper is awful getting off it. Hyper. In the morning and at night I want to punch the wall. I then remind myself this is not me!!! Yes I didn't research. I research everything and I didn't. Yes 2 years ago. I know with Paxil when I felt more terrible I would take a small sliver of the solid pill then little by little I made it. This is totally different. I am going by levels in the capsule. Meaning after a week I try to go lower. I dump more out little by little. But do not go cold turkey. You can have a serotonin syndrome that can kill you. Chronic pain and mood disorders here. Also, an actor. Have been prescribed Cymbalta. Have not started. I'm scared. But I will say, for every one of these videos detailing the EVILS of Cymbalta, there is one details its VIRTUES. I know people personally who have done well with it. These drugs are powerful obviously. This video was posted 6 years ago. I think that these days most people do their research and its more in the mainstream that you just can't stop these medications without adverse reactions... I'm not convinced of either way... Obviously I'd rather be okay WITHOUT meds... but...

This morning at 10 a.m. I took my first 20 MG of paroxetine. My body is very sensitive to medication. I did notice that I didn't have many negative thoughts and was able to focus pretty well. Late into the evening I started to feel so many side effects. I'm not paranoid but I felt 90% of the side effects. It's beem 14 hours since I've taken it. Right now it feelsl similar to the feeling of ecstacy after the crash. It's a little pass 1 a.m. and I'm having a hard time trying to sleep. Atm I do have a cold, which makes me wonder if it has a negative impact on the medication. I might keep trying it unless the next few days the side effects are too much. I'm gonna try to tough it out. This video is almost a perfect match to how I feel.

Cymbalta has changed my life. A year of the WORST anxiety and panic. I've never had any of that in my life. The heart palpitations were the worst part. Or not being able to go into a store, or just sleeping for a week. I lost my girlfriend, lost my high paying job. The Clonazepam wasn't working, the magnesium wasn't working. Finally I begged my new Dr to help me. That I couldn't take it anymore. Started cymbalta, 20mg for 2 weeks, then 60mg. I've been on 60mg now for a month. It's like I woke up one day and all the anxiety and heart palpitations were gone. So far 10 days now not a single symptom of anxiety. I feel alive again, and like myself. I'll take it forever if it means not ever feeling like I did for a year.

Cut from 60 to 30. No withdrawal symptoms. Only thing is is my pain came back with a VENGEANCE 😢 Upped it again. Hopefully I can find something for the STIFFNESS. I have tried about 6 different muscle relaxers, nothing has worked **sigh**

An important reminder for anyone starting an antidepressant is to take the medication as prescribed. Unless I’m misunderstanding, your symptoms were a result of missing doses and not tapering off the medication correctly. I empathize with your struggle of course. Maybe more awareness is needed as to how important it is to be consistent when taking antidepressants because even missing just one dose can result in some of the symptoms you described in this video.

I was in the ward for my depression when the institution’s psychiatrist put me on Cymbalta. She asked if it was something I was interested in and of course it was because I just wanted to get better. I physically could not do my own research (no access to internet) so I trusted her word. The moment I would miss a dose (after my discharge) I would also get poor vision, migraines, terrible concentration, hot flashes, panic attacks, it was BAD. My mom ended up telling me I was going through withdrawal and it made so much sense. Cymbalta withdrawals are no joke. Idk how I’m supposed to come off this drug or if I even should tbh
