Sounds good. Thanks dude🎉🎉
Thank You! I'm glad it helped.
Nice playing! Really solid. This is going to be a great song.
Aw, thanks Paul!
Really liking this track. Sounding good as always.
Thanks, KM! It's 4/4, very easy, and straight forward.
Hey Chad, pretty much what I do using the R24, do you ever use the scratch track and blend it with your final guitar track? Sounds like a good one!
Yes, Nero you could definitely use that track. It could be lower in the mix or even split out with another track. Another thing I;ve done is to layer an acoustic track and then have that low in the mix to just provide texture and a percussive feeling. I'm hoping that the amp sounds great on this track, because that is one of the main problems with the original recording. The pickups were noisy and I dropped the ball on the miking.
Thanks man
Glad it helped!
James Dean will go down as the most overrated human being in history. It's pathetically ridiculous. Why don't all you crazy fans go and exhume his body and see how great he is now. Oh that's right your god is nothing but dust.
Sounded like a good song to me
Thank you very much for the kind words!!! It really gives me confidence.
@@ChadEtchison your welcome i understand the feed back is nice especially good feed back i like the rythm and the vocals if they were equalized im sure it would sound good i was working on a new one i seemed to be on a role then i caught a cold so i coudnt sing, im over it now so i will get back to it, i have to work hard to get a voice at all, anyway i understand my friend.
@@MediocreOriginals Yes, it's such a struggle that we all have to overcome. The encouragement helps fuel the fire needed to make the song as good as it can be. The recording process is long and tenuous, so people giving encouragement are helpful and selfless. Once you get off your cold, you'll get back on the stick and ride again. There is a season for everything-- even being sick. it's a good way to gather your thoughts and mental energy for the projects ahead. Thanks again for taking the tie to comment and comment back, it really fuels my energy to interact with other musicians.
Me like. Very raw sounding rhythm. Agree with you that the Marshall is the way to go on this one. Gives it that something extra! Over thinking can be a big obstacle to moving forward. Sometimes times you got to let it rip. Keep rockin!
Thank you, KM! Yes, no over thinking on this one!!!
Another piece to the puzzle. Sounding Good!
Thank you, KM! Back in the saddle again!
Note to self: Dont let this guy borrow my gear! 🤣
haha! It's very true!
What in the name of the baby jusus is going on with those toms! (and that snare)
Haha, those are "square" toms that are featured in the Slingerland Magnum kit. This one is from 1985. The snare is a '70 COB Gene Krupa, also a Slingerland. They are set-up goofy because I wasn't using them on this track.
Thanks for sharing. Highly appreciated!!! I use 4 lapel mics inside the drums and 2 overheads.
Woah! That sounds really cool!
@@ChadEtchison They end up sounding like the MAY internal miking system, akin to Alex's sound on the live album 'Right Here, Right Now'........And the mics are over 24 years old.......hard to find Radio Shack models. They have a certain frequency response that current lapels do not have. I just play a 4 piece, so I had enough mics to fit the bill. The bass drum hits very hard in the mix.
@@drummer4hire12 Oh man, I think I get what you're going for. The immediate fast attack of one of the gods: AVH. His tone is so recognizable, maybe more than any other big time, famous drummer. I'm assuming the RS mics capture attack, and stick dynamics really well. There are so many magical RS products. I really lament their closing. I once hit up the RS down the street on a regular basis to get carbon comp resistors and silver sold. That solder was so good and really cheap! I think I appreciate Alex's drumming more now that I did back in the 80's, even though I loved the band. I now realize what his musical connection with his brother really meant for their music.
Great video bro. Great guitar collection. What's that Flash Gordon thing? P.S. I need something..
Haha! Thanks! It's a an old Flash Gordon record. Thanks for commenting!.
Once the bridge is locked can you adjust the action via the thumb wheels or do you need to unlock it again?
You have to unlock it by turning the little allen screw, and then you adjust. After adjustment, you tighten back up. Good luck!
GREAT documentary. Rocks first. idol and one who helped. to open. the doors for. everything that was to follow. From elvis to bowie. Bob Dylan Iggy pop and beyond dean has been a continuing influence on them all
So true, regsymes! He was the first teenager and as you have stated, he opened up the lane for expression and influenced everything to come afterwards. I wonder what he would have thought of all he wrought? Thank you or watching and commenting.
Yaeh move on to something new and when you come back it will kick arse! Great track.
Exactly! You're support means the WORLD!
Love the outro part on this one , tone sounds great, Keep rocking!
Thank you very much, John! I'm excited to move on!!!
The building blocks of a song coming together.
I'm glad ot have this recorded. I will have fresh ears and know where to place everything after some time. This one got annoying. Whenever I try something ambitious, it hurts a lot more, then when I do something more familiar. This feels like uncharted territory for me. I wouldn't have made it without your support!
Love me some in between tones! Works really well here, especially the last part. Keep rockin!
Inspired by your advice! I finally get the quack. I think I needed to hear it in the context of one of my tunes, because I always love it in other material, but it always sounded weird when I treid. It really helps the part stand out. The Strat is like a built in effects machine!
I think a great choice on the guitar parts! Brings it all together nicely...
Thank you, fiddlinero! Your positive commentary on this really help get me through!!
@mr_floydst Hello mate. Pardon for Offtooic. Question about R24, why do synthesizers when using this interface - when connecting separate L+R channels at the output on monitors - give disgusting MONO? And how to deal with this? Thank you.
This may be too obvious, but have you tried stereo linking the two tracks in PAN/EQ?
@@ChadEtchison yes I did it via PAN / EQ)))
@@user-rk2xj8gr3h What a relief! Happy Day!!!
@@ChadEtchison thanks, i did it already and everething is alright. And the next issue, do you know how to control the quolity of frequences on the output? Thanks!
@@user-rk2xj8gr3h I use Audacity after I record, just to do a high pass, amplification, and/or whatever you would want to do. It's free!
Been out of town for some R&R. Also appreciate watching your process.
This has been a tough one, KM. I have redone it several times since this vid. It sounds pretty good and I feel like I can move on to a new one! I hope your R&R time was good.
Thanks for sharing your memories.
Thank you for taking the time to watch. You are the kind of guy that helps build people up, just like Albiz.
Nice! By the way I am totally hearing 'accelerate' as 'exhilarate'. 🤓
I love it when that happens! Thank you for commenting, Paul!!!
I'm currently having a issue running a stereo mic, running 48v on 3/4 and 7/8 doesn't work, but on 5/6 with phantom power engaged works (?). If it works like this in the future I'll live with it, but it is strange..... I just tested the XLR inputs and they read about 48 volts - 7 ma, so the voltage is there....
Wow, that is super weird. Thanks for sharing; the phantom power has been underwhelming for me. It's the only real downside!
Thanks for the great words, etch
Aw, thanks Bill! I hope everything is going well for you! I've missed your presence.
ZOOM R24 is one of the best Tools ever, isn't it 😂? I m just wonder why the Produktion of it was stopped. Because R20 is more primitive machine.
Yes, I agree! Is it out of production now? That's a drag. it doesn't seem like they have managed to replace it with a better unit.
That makes me glad I have two of them . I have had a ton of recorders over time, like 3 VS2480's, 1680's 880's. I love everything about the R24. The process of capturing an idea is untouchable.....the fastest start up and shutdown ever. No goofy button combos to reach a menu etc etc. pure gold!!!
@@drummer4hire12 Yes! I'm glad others feel that same way about it. The machine gets it right -- especially at the price point and all of those type of factors.
@@ChadEtchison Yes, there are many different possibilities there. A masterpiece.
@@user-rk2xj8gr3h It reminds me of a four-track cassette recorder with better fidelity and a complete all in one system.
I think we might be being a bit hyperbolic with the word "punk", I feel that people usually are when it comes to Albini, "alternative" certainly, and real "alternative" is certainly influenced by punk and the punk ethos, but it's not actual punk. There are more in music with ethics then just punk, although punk inspired the rock sections with ethics.
I feel like this isn't a good time to die on the hill of axiology.
Steve was the one outsider I would have trusted to record our music - and dreamed about that happening one day. What an example of excellence and integrity - and loss to the world that we won't get more Shellac music, or all the beautiful, raw albums he would have continued recording.
It was a great dream -- to get to record with Steve Albini. I'm really sad that you and your band won't get the chance.
@@ChadEtchison Thanks man - and thanks for sharing your experiences with him. At least there's loads of music and all kinds of wise interviews to dig into and learn from for a long time.
@@wychwoodmusic Yes, that is very true. He left a rich legacy behind, that someone can really learn from. It's a tragic loss for all of us.
Just stumbled on your video via the algorithm. Loved what you had to say. What you described in terms of his ethics is 100% punk rock. And that was Steve through n through. He is missed.
There is no substitue. There really is no one quite like him. He really stood apart, due to his ethical character when dealing with bands. Thank you for commenting.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience, it's hard to do justice to Steve Albini in a tribute, but I think you managed to do it just right.
Thank you, RR. He was a one of a kind talent and human being.
put the pipe down, dude...
Thank you for putting musician first, Steve was Musician
He was a GREAT musician. Much like Johnny Ramone, he had one of the great right hands of rock.

Yea! i don't think there will be anyone else that can do what he did. Thank you!
It's saving me right now!
I´ve been holding out so long
Yes!
We just need to be shown the way. I just missed him when I went to school in Missoula. Pixies, Pj Harvey, then I went folk after nevermind and Kurt’s death. I finally picked up Steve’s In Utero mix-so excellent. Steve was ‘Excellence’. The recordings that I have are so unique-it’s sounds like the best version of any band he recorded. Handmade excellence. Thanks for your story-
It truly is -- GIBKEL, handmade excellence, what a great description! That In Utero recording and remix is divine. Salut, friend!
as a Chicagoan I always thought it was way cool he set up shop here. He could’ve set up anywhere, LA, NYC, Nashville but I guess he stayed here after graduating Northwestern . Perhaps it was due to his disdain for the business? We lost a legend but hopefully all those he influenced will carry the torch for the next generation
Yes, as a Chicagoan, you should be proud. he loved that city and it had a profound effect on him. He detested most other 'high-pressure' cities. I remember him referring to them in that way. I asked him about Londo and his reply was, "Just another high-pressure city." Thanks, 1928!
Steve was and will always be an inspiration. His attitude to recording AND his attitude towards bands is 100% the way it should be.
I totally agree with you, Kevin -- and I appreciate you commenting. It's cathartic for us to share and feel the loss. I wish his attitude was more pervasive in the biz!

Crazy that searching up Zoom R24 videos and it led me to here. Sucks Steve is gone. He was a true musician and true to his craft. Nobody could capture sound on tape like he could.
Yes, Chuck, i totally agree. It's very rare that you can spot the engineer on any of the records that he recorded by the drum sound alone. He was also a master at cutting tape. Watching him do it was really impressive.
Thanks for sharing Chad! Your notice and recollection of people and your surroundings is admirable and amazing, a very honoring account of your time there and with him. Thanks for caring about everyone you meet. 💙
Aw, thanks Holly! It's such a drag that he's not around, doing his thing.
So well said, brother. Such a loss. "Worship the process, not the goal" - an amazing statement. So true. We set ourselves up to fail when we focus too much on the end goal (or our vision of it). I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Doing art for art's sake and nothing else. It's inspiring. Thank you for sharing your memories and thoughts on Steve. It means a lot.
Thank you, Ian, first for watching, and second for contributing. A big part of what made Steve special was his outreach to other artists by encouraging and advising. It was a completely different way of going about things. I hope to carry on a small part of that tradition.
@ChadEtchison You definitely are and have been carrying that spirit along. I can tell you that you've inspired me (and I'm sure many others) to keep going and learning and that great things are still possible. Keep on keepin' on. 🤘
