I ended up doing it several more times, haha! I think I finally sunk into the pocket of the second chorus by just laying back and letting the guitar lead. I've learned a lot -- that's for sure!

Hi Chad. I hope all is well. I was flipping through the R24 user's manual and found out there is a way to change the settings for phantom power. I haven't tried it yet but it could be a game changer. I recently tried out a mic preamp/compressor and couldn't get a good signal so I thought I'd try going straight in and use the R24's compressor options to test that out. Anyway, if you wanna check out the phantom power settings, you go TOOL -> SYSTEM -> PHANTOM -> VOLTAGE. Maybe the units are just set on a low voltage out of the box? Seems most studio mics need 45v to 48v from what I'm reading. I will have to investigate more.

Good work, ian! That's great I have mine here and I'll check it out. I've always wondered why it was so pathetic!

@ChadEtchison I definitely noticed my condenser didn't have its full sound out of the gate. This might be the issue. Especially if the default setting is at 24v. It will be interesting to see if this does the trick.

@ChadEtchison Well, I checked my settings and they were on 48v so I'll probably still look into another preamp at somepoint. 😅 We'll have to see how the vocals go. I was hoping the settings were the culprit but apparently not.

@@ianmargolyczWhen you posted this, I went and checke dthe Zoom and mine was at 48mv as well. I then sort of half remembered that I had been through this before, shortly after I got the unit. This was the impetus for getting the Rane pre, because the phantom power on the Zoom was too weak to power my condenser mic. One other thing to look out for are the batteries. I use rechargeable, which are NIMH, as opposed to alkaline. If you use NIMH batteries, go in and switch it in the machine, or it will burn the batteries out rapidly. I couldn't believe how little charge time I had until I changed that setting.

@ChadEtchison It's a bummer that the phantom power doesn't push just a bit more. I got a good deal on an ART Tube MP/C but it was definitely causing a hum in the chain. I had to return it but I might look for another mic pre at somepoint if the direct setup doesn't yield decent results. I'll keep an eye on the battery settings too, thanks. So many features on this thing that I haven't even tried yet. I messed with some of the effects for guitar the other day. Amazing what they packed into this thing!
