DIY Tentacle Sync E Mount for Your Camera Using Parts You Already Have
Просмотров 7274 года назад
In this video, we build a small mount for your Tentacle Sync E to fit onto your camera, without the need to foul up your camera using Velcro on the camera, instead we take some parts from a tension arm (which you probably have laying around if your watching this video) and with little to no tools, fashion up a removable mount in less than a minute.
MixPre-3 and Orca OR-27 Sound Bag Setup
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
This is my location sound bag setup based on the MixPre3 Mark II and Orca OR-27 small sound bag. Since making this video, I have added a Rode Newsshooter XLR transmitter into the mix to allow for wireless connection to a boom pole mounted microphone. I am looking for something to allow me to monitor the MixPre3 using my Sennheiser HD25 headphones without having to be tethered to the sound bag. ...
Switchpod: An Unbiased Review
Просмотров 744 года назад
▶ Check out my gear on Kit: kit.com/CardinalBags This is my unbiased review of the Switchpod. Overall, I am generally quite happy with the Switchpod. The ergonomics and design of the Switchpod are quite good. I did however, have to make a modification to the Switchpod to fix how much wobble there was in the legs of the Switchpod. In my opinion, the amount of gap between the lugs in the rotating...
MKH-416 Mix Pre 3 Vs NTG-2 and H4N Pro: An Unfair Comparison
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.4 года назад
This video presents a question: Do I save up to buy the Pro's gear or buy the Joe's gear that I can afford now. I purchased the NTG-2 and H4N Pro as my starting equipment. While better than the built in microphones on small mirrorless cameras, they are not the best that money can buy. I finally saved up enough money to buy a Sennheiser MKH-416 and Mix Pre 3 Mark II and I don't think I'll look b...

The Best HDMI Cable for your Camera and External Recorder
Просмотров 6 тыс.5 лет назад
▶ Check out my gear on Kit: kit.co/CardinalBags The Sanho Hyperthin HDMI Cable, I think it's the best HDMI cable out there for use with your camera and external monitor. I have the GH5 and Atomos Ninja Inferno, so to take full advantage of the recorder, a properly rated cable has to be used that can handle the full data rates for 4K-60FPS 10 bit 4:2:2 color. Most cables are bulky and wont work ...

Have you tried the Deity Theos system? I was on the fence between them and G4s for my first bag.
The Theos system came out after I had already purchased the G4's. While the Deity gear is interesting in terms of it's interconnectability to Deity timecode, and internal recording capability, I would look closely at the latency of that system when relying on it to transmit to the bag.
If you're still tossing up between those two, then also add in Sony UWP-D21 to the mix. Personally I'd always go for the Sony UWP-D series of the Sony EW100 G4 series, it's an easy slam dunk decision for me in favor of Sony. Dunno about Deity, maybe they win out? They look tempting, but I don't have any personal first hand experiences with them. Another option is Lectrosonics 400 Series, it will be a little bit more expensive (maybe twice as much? Or maybe less than twice as much? Depends on what bargains you can find, or not), but will be truly *vastly* better. (but will be old & secondhand.... ) Or go even older, and get Lectro 200 Series? (would be comparable pricing to brand new Sony/Deity/Sennheiser)
Best line up they had. Wasn't the same vibe after Marshall left. Then beard guy passed away. Still a good band, just not the grass roots fun band that they started out as.
Hi
Hi! Looking to do something similar with the BDSv4, but to USB-C. Where did you buy the Switchcraft 761K plug from? Thanks!
The newer version of the bdsv4 has a usb output or are you talking about usb-c input to use a regular power bank? The plugs probably came from Digikey or Mouser Electronics, but they are common enough that you should be able to find them in any online electronics warehouse site.
This video is JUST what I needed! Got my first Orca bag & needed to know how best to pack it. I'm glad I found your video & I liked your tips that have come from experience. Thank you!
You’ll love the orca bags, well built.
is great audio set up what if buy the orca 280. is including the Shoulder Strap ? and what did you is work with OR-280 for mixpre 10 ii ?
Yes, it comes with a shoulder strap, but you really *really* do not want to use that. Please get yourself a proper mixing harness! 🙂
Probably wouldn't be that hard to make dummy batteries. Although you would have to make a hole for the cable to exit in the receivers. I wonder if the units for the Sennheiser's would fit but I know there's many options for dummy batteries from Chinese knock off type things to similar products for other products or even dowels and thumbtacks.
Nice video sir 👍 COUNTINUE SHHOT video
thank you for the video and the useful information, where can i find the DC-2 power adapter for the Sennheiser receivers?
I bought them from B&H photo but you also need to buy dc barrel plugs to match if you want to power them off a battery distribution block. The DC-2 comes with wires tinned at the ends only

Thank you 😊
Looks like a lovely little setup. I’m trying myself to get a secondhand MixPre 3 but can’t find anywhere over here in the uk that sells them. None on Amazon and none on eBay and don’t really know where else to try? I do however have an orca or27 bag! 👍👍
Just a sign that once folks buy MixPre audio recorders, they don’t ever give them up, they are such great recorders. You may need to buy new. I have since upgraded my MixPre-3 ii to a MixPre-10 ii, but I still have the MixPre-3, it stays connected to my office setup of ATEM and computer as an audio interface and allows me to use my xlr mics with my computer or ATEM. If the audio gig is a critical one, I will pack up the MixPre-3 as a backup recorder.
Thanks for the video
What is the cup connector call.
It is a Hi-Q Battery Cup. The one I bought is a remote audio brand. The model number changes with each different end connector at the other end for whatever the battery is supposed to connect into.
Don't know if you are aware but there are 2 strapt for putting recivers on the left and right of the front pocket. Great for not having recivers on the side pockets.
Excellent review, exactly what I was looking for regarding this slider. I also have a Rottweiler, he looks a lot like yours lol
Hello What are the crash bars called and where do I get them?
Kudo's to the instrument catcher! Teamwork!
Way BETTER than the original!!! Damn!
definitely worth a Sub. Nice!
Where in Canada are you from? Toronto??
Nova Scotia
If I wanted to send the audio from the MixPre-10 II to my a7siii, would I just connect a TRS 3.5mm cable from the MixPre's x1/x2 port to the mic input on the camera?
Precisely. But that would limit the location of the bag to within a few feet of your camera.
Timecode with a Tentacle Sync E (or a Deity TC1) would be a much better way to keep your MixPre in sync with your a7s 🙂
If I use a v-mount battery as power source can I use the Battery distributer with it?
Thanks you so much! That was very helpful!
Thanks for sharing! So so informative and helpful. Do you have a digital slate too?
So I finally ordered away for my time code slate. I opted for the Deity TC-SL1 slate. Good features and reviews along with Sound Speeds smashing one as a test on the rocks made me comfortable enough with the Deity Slate.
Very informative and inspiring! What do you recommend for IFB and camera hops?
I don’t have proper camera hops/ifb’s at the moment. I Have used wireless tx/rx’s intended for lav use in this scenario before, but when the time comes, I will likely invest in Comtek’s being that they are quite common, well regarded in the industry and quite a few of the intended recipients of the feed will be familiar with them, so not a lot of fussing and training the day of…
Check out the Leicozic IEMs, I've got a few videos about them on my channel. They're dirt cheap, but of course they're not perfect sounding audio quality, however they get the job done (as they're still better sounding than Comteks!).
Thanks for taking everything a part and giving us a thorough detailed look at your rig. I think a lot of people starting out, including myself will get a lot from the information you provided.
Thanks for the great review!
Thanks for watching!
We all will miss Mike Taylor, his memory and spirit will be with this band forever. RIP Mr. Mike Being 911 is my Birthday, and finding this is real. It's a shame that I will never get a chance to see them live. They are playing in concert here in Raleigh, NC along with another of my favorites, Lindsey Sterling. OH WELL, thanks for RUclips.
This video was great. Thanks for all the great knowledge. Do you have a part number on the thermostat gaskets?
Real talent 👌
I didnt know Toyko was in the group while Mike and Ryan were still in it.
Tokyo was part of the road crew/ backing band at that time
The Tilta Float i dont think was around 3 yrs ago and this is the only video i found anywhere that has addressed the Prores Raw 4k 60 Atomos Recording HDMI issues and its 3 yrs old just noticed ✌🏻
Thank You
Foinnex 3ft is thin and working w Prores Raw 4k60 HQ off Amazon. Have yet to find a cable beyond 3ft (Thin) That works that thin. The long coiled Atomos 16 to 30 whatever even though bulky ive had no luck at all except the short gold label .. This is is very aggervating and i have 2 UNDONE CABLE ON THE SHELF! Suppose i didnt pay enough attention to the specs or the video! Got a mint in cables and No one seems to be shooting PRORES RAW 4k60 with any say that thers a problem. Must be a secret?
Nice sound group 👌🏾 👍🏾 😀 hoping successes get award Grammy, I heart, billboards so work at it keep it going, thanks fro great sounds 👍🏾 😀 😊
20:20, i see that now, Mike Taylor couldn't hold his laugh too for a moment :)
Me, first couple minutes: Is this STOMP?
I got 416, but Mix Pre-3 is on backorder since December!! What should I do until then? Also tips on how to setup the 416 to get the best audio? I can't find much on RUclips
Hey man. You mentioned there was a dude who made a plugin or script that grabs usernames and creates a scrolling credit. What was that dudes name? Thanks for coming into the stream tonight Trev.
Aaron Parecki is the guy I was talking about. He does a bunch of things with automation and livestreaming. I'm not entirely sure he's done a video on it, I've just seen his livestreams where when he rolls his outro, it automatiically picked up all the names of superchats and channel members and put it into his credits. It might be the same type of application that he uses to place pins on a google map automatically when people name where they are from in the chat.
@@The-Logician I just checked out his channel. He's damn good. It looks like he leans toward hardware like the ATM Mini. I did not see a user name scraper. That's ok, I'll figure it out.
Nice setup! You have helped me decide which Orca bag to purchase for my MixPre 6ii.
I have made a slight adjustment to this setup since this video. I am no longer using the retractable 1/8" TRS cables with the Rode VXLR adapters. Instead I made up custom XLR to 1/8" TRS cables which use a very compact XLR adapter head that takes up next to no space in the bag. The ones I used are the Low Profile Right Angle XLR adapters from Cable Techniques. Really good investment and cleared up a lot of space in the bag.
Nice job Trevor, I thought I would show you my project. I'm 75 years old, and my wife and I took our newest granddaughter to the Zoo with the family a few months ago. But becaue I have some physical issues I needed to rent one the zoo's handicap vehicles. They were all rented out so had to sit on the bench most of the time while my family took the tour. After that disappointment I decided that I needed a handicap vehicle for myself, but didn't like what was available. So I decided to buy a Segway X2 and modify it to what I wanted. Here is my latest project. ruclips.net/video/0JUhYqis_co/видео.html
The HDMI cable I have appears to work fine for sending 10-bit 422 ProRes HQ footage to my Atomos Ninja 5. But sending ProRes Raw footage to it is something else again. Once I switch my camera to Raw output, the Ninja shows an intermittent signal. My search for the highest-quality HDMI cable continues.
I guess i’ve never sent prores raw to the Ninja v. Thanks for this comment. None of my cameras output raw(GH5 and C70) so I’ve never had the opportunity to test that.
Very good video. I'm about to buy it but I have some doubts. I would like to mount it on a Smallrig base, for a BMPCC4K, I plan to use for now old Nikon Ai and Af-S photography lenses that have the focus ring on the edge of the lens. My question is: Would the Follow Focus be uncomfortable being very close to the Mattebox? Can the Fotga Mattebox adjust the vertical height? I've seen that some people have to buy a taller base plate when the Mattebox doesn't fit the size of the camera and lens. Thanks for your time.
Also, 2021 update, I’ve also stripped back most of the audio gear as I’m using a separate audio bag setup now, and using timecode boxes. Audio timecode for GH5 cameras and direct input file time code to the Canon C70
It is so amazing to see each of them tinker with different instruments almost as if they are just playing. Each one so incredibly talented! Love them!
Hi Trevor, This is a very well done video and thank you. What is the black bar assembly that you have that connects both sides of the cargo plates. Is it something one can purchase? I am in the process of setting an X2 up with the DJI RS2 gimble and I'm interested in what looks to be a cross cargo plate connector. Thank you much for your help and again, excellent video! I really wish that I'd have a lightsaber try to burn stuff with it to make me one to please
Awesome advice.. thank you.
Thanks for this compatibility test, very interesting.
Thanks for the thorough demonstration and explanations. I've had my Orca bag for a while, but I knew I probably wasn't using it (mainly the organization/cable management features) to the fullest extent. This helped a lot and revealed some new tricks, so for that I'm very grateful!
This is still helpful info in 2021. I'm looking to buy this for a Sony a7iii to connect it to my monitor, which will be mounted on a Ronin SC gimbal. Thank you.
Can you imagine being the roadie for this band? So much stuff.
