I got 416, but Mix Pre-3 is on backorder since December!! What should I do until then? Also tips on how to setup the 416 to get the best audio? I can't find much on RUclips
Great video Trevor. I bought two of the Sennheiser MKE2 lav Mics with XLR, and without a transmitter and receiver. I run them both into my Sound Devices Mix-Pre 10ii. Incredible. I also have a Shure Sm7B and two Shure Sm57 mics, I am trying to save for an MKH 416. Now I am trying to find a way to Jam timecode into an Old 1st series Olympus EPL-1 camera which has mini HDMI. Maybe my Mix-Pre 10ii will be able to that, or I may have to do it Old School and clap/slate in Post/Software.
Great video! I’m currently using a MKH416/H4N Pro combo and have always wondered if making the jump to a MixPre 3 II is worth it. Have you made any comparisons between the recorders for the MKH416?
I have not done a direct comparison of the 416 into the MP3 vs H4N pro. To me, the jump to the MP3-II is well worth it. The quality of the pre-amps of the MP3-II over the H4N alone would be worth it to me, the 32bit float recording, the ease of use, the ease of mixing the list goes on and on. I will keep the H4N in the equipment list but only as a backup in case I drop and damage the MP3 and need something right away.
As I recall, at the time the zoom F6 did not yet have the 32 bit float recording option when i purchased the Mix-pre 3, so I did not consider it. It wasn’t long after that zoom added the 32 bit float options.

This video is excellent. Thanks for putting it together.
Trevor is that your dog on the computer? 1:58
Yes. Photo was taken with my GH5 with metabones speedbooster and Canon 70-200 IS Mk II.

Trevor Bagnell Thanks for the insight! Will definitely consider it now.
I have problemas with “sh” on h4pro+416, did you?
Did you consider to buy zoom f6, over mix pre3?

Good content, but your indoor video is so dark! Keep an eye on that histogram!
Thanks for the feedback... my office is dark to begin with.
