In 2016 we packed up our three kids and decided to leave suburban life in order to rediscover our love of out doors, and learn the necessary skills to build a homestead from scratch.
Learn with us as we begin to grow a garden, raise chickens, hunt and forage for food and live life to its fullest.
We are so glad you are here, and hope that we can inspire you to live your dreams and become the very best version of yourself you can be.

It's Time to Get Our Pool Ready for Summer
We are opening our Coleman 52 inch above ground pool for the 5th season and getting our pool ready for summer. Getting the pool cleaned out from winter is a horrible experience, but the enjoyment that my family and I will receive from a small oasis from the summer heat will be well worth it. Bonus is that we get to set up some cool new toys we received from POOLHACKER!
We set up the fountain light from POOLHACKER to add a little more ambiance and fun to the pool. It was surprisingly easy to setup and included all the parts needed to fit our Coleman Above Ground Pool.

What kind of siding is on your house?
Awesome picnic table
So you didn't tie in the cover?
What is the model
From your experience of building several tables - we are looking to build three heavy duty tables for "big guys" Our family has several big fellows all over 6 foot 5 and 330 pounds None of us can sit at a picnic table because we can't fit, and we would break the table! I know if we used larger lumber and built it sturdy, we could use it for bigger adults and not have to worry about our bellies being in the way or our weight crushing the legs. Do you have any ideas for me?? Please share your thoughts. Thank you !
Sorry, appreciate the effort, but this is not detailed enough.
It’s a RUclips SHORT. I’m sure you can find longer videos on regular RUclips.
Never place your saw on the Pavement. Why? It's something you paid good money for. Get a pad or even A piece of cardboard. Why Scuff up a nice saw if you don't have to.
T111 looks good. might have been easier to install if strapping was used.
grandpa used an axe. there was no such thing as chainsaw
I made this yesterday and it was the easiest video to follow!!
What thread locker did you use
The red high heat stuff. www.amazon.com/dp/B000HBIB8K/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_XBFPQ4G3YEEK2JJB2SK4?linkCode=ml2&tag=hurricaneho0a-20
how are the 1x2 holding up?Iam doing same thing because I have a bunch of 1x2 on hand thanks.
No problems at all. It’s held up well under 12” of snow and 1/2” of ice so far as well as storms with 65 mph winds.
@@HurricaneHomestead Thank you sir guess i will go ahead and use the 1x2 strapping then. Also I live in western KY not much snow here. Thanks again for quit answer!
This easy change oil kit is crap you leave almost 1 & 1/2 quarts in the engine I know this because I have an oil extractor that I use for my other equipment. So you are leaving almost 40 percent of the old oil in and believe me at 48 hours it was really dirty. In what world would you swap out half your old oil and leave the dirty oil in your car, boat or other equipment and expect it to not eventually affect your engine! I am going to change this out as there are kits available after my warranty expires and I will just keep extracting the entire oil out and adding about a quart and a half after using the easy oil piece of junk!
So glad you made this video im Dyslexic and I was having trouble. Thanks guys
Thanks for watching. I’m glad that it was helpful!
I'm a bit confused cousin and brother in law?
We like to keep family close around here.
I'm sorry, but filing a chainsaw doesn't need to be that much of a pain, cost that much or be that slow. Practice on an old chain for 20 minutes and you will develop muscle memory. I've been sharpening saws by hand since I was 9, and it is quick, easy and cheap. YT is FULL of videos like Bucking Billy Ray makes, which make it simple and fast to learn. I must admit, though, that I deeply appreciate attention to detail and I bet your chain will walk circles around most others.
Usually only use the guide when I feel like my chain is getting a bit off. Sharpening out in the field isn’t difficult, but can cause some irregularities which can cause the chain to cut more on one side than the other. Especially for a newb like me.
Just fully rebuilt our Woods BB72. Nothing complicated. But like you experienced, there is an element of frustration with some of the steps. May I nicely recommend that you need a good sturdy workbench and vise to make some things easier than doing them on that floppy table. Nothing flashy or expensive. Some planks and posts. Also, please spend a few bucks and get those safety guards replaced on that PTO shaft…including the clutch cover.
What is with this stupid fucking music
grate job
I am from southeast KY and i never knew black walnut trees could be tapped. Thanks for teaching me that i have one or two black walnuts on my property now i want to see if i can do it.
That’s great! Plan on tapping them right around Christmas for this region.
@@HurricaneHomestead Thank you for that tip. Keep up the great work I am loving your channel.
Aloha From Hawaii I have built 4 cause it's that good 🎉 Mahalo for sharing❤
My chicken is limping can I do the same procedure?
We got the 7Kw it runs everything essential. We just can’t run the washer and dryer but AC and fridge plus water pump and my gaming PC all run fine
Great idea!!!! I painted mine before the install, so I don't get a pain in my C5 & C6 neck joints.
My pet chicken 😭 That's why I'm here 😭😭😭
This setup is against code. You should have an interlock kit with an outdoor inlet.
You are correct.
I got a job at a landscaping company. I've got to cut up a downed tree tomorrow. I've never really used a chainsaw before. I'm just going to go for it. I learned a lot from watching. Thank you
@@Cocodream7 how'd you get on with the tree?
I've had my Jbar mower for a couple of years. It cuts anything the front of my tractor can push over. Can't imagine what you could have done to tear one up! I've broken the shear pin a couple of times thru stupidity, but that's what shear pins are for. Got a piece of electric cable the power company left hidden in the weeds tangled up in the blades and it beat the heck out of the frame. I could have fixed it, but was easier to call JBar and pick up another one for $100. Customer service is awesome. I've also got a jBar land plane and both pieces of equipment are as good as it gets. I wouldn't hesitate to buy other stuff from them.
I think it great your saving a tower
I want to know how to remove a 100 foot tower My friend said I can take it for free if I can dismantle it. With a ton of guide wires. I can used my friend 60 foot bucket truck. I do have a 50 foot tower I just wanted a bigger tower
This level of safety prep is kind of a turn-on! Rawrrr 🐯 The macho man lumberjacks posting chainsaw tutorials in tennis shoes, t-shirts & jeans with no ear/eye protection are unwatchable!
@@NinaDisco it’s nice to know I’m not a macho man lumberjack. 😂
So your going to burn down your house or kill somebody. You must have a breaker interlock kit. This makes it impossible to turn on both at the same time. The interlock kit requires you to turn off the main breaker, and then would allow you to turn on the generator breaker. Otherwise burning an emergency event you could have both on and back feed the grid and kill a lineman, or have the generator line plug male posts hot, or the main is on you can also have the generator feed on and causing an overcurrent and cause fire. Very very dangerous situation here.
Why does no sound to it?
I’m getting sound, is anyone else not getting sound. If so I’ll upload it again.
The audio is only on the left channel. Put your other earbud in.
If you were building new, would you extend your roof line to build the lean to or do it like these people did. I live on a point where there can be a lot of wind.

I just anchored mine this afternoon before Hurricane Helene is about to hit Georgia. A simple trip to the big box store hopefully did the trick.
Yall be safe. Let us know how it holds up.
You order your parts online
Yes. I’ve got a local dealer, but they are about an hour away.
How many inches of 2x4s would you need
I have to admit… I never added up the inches.
I have the 4 foot J-Bar SD on my Farmall Super A. Not sure if they still make the fast hitch models or not. It does OK in pasture grass and very small saplings but I would not try it on anything else due to the PTO setup with the direct drive. Maybe a 1/2- 3/4 inch max but have never hit anything close of that yet. Standard Duty is for very light work. Even the name brands SD only list 1 inch max, all at different price points.. HIgh end, name brand HD models list up to 4 inch saplings/trees, but you are looking at almost 6 grand, but IMHO, that is what a saw is for.. J-bar does have the HD models and Premier models with the 75 HP gear box with 8 gauge steel(like 3/16) and gear box mount is about 1/4 inch steel. I have a new Mahindra 4550 coming, 48 HP and looking at the J-Bar premier 6 footer Premier model simply due to price, thick steel housing and the 75 HP gearbox with thick mount, with slip clutch and a dealer is close. Made in America too, in Georgia or at least assembled there. Parts made in China or overseas= well you would be surprised on how this new global market has sourced stuff from all over the world. China, India, Vietnam, England, South Korea, Brazil, you name it for JD, Case New Holland, MF, CAT, Cummins, Navistar. Land Pride, Bush Hog, etc. It is the cheap labor and lack of EPA controls in other countries to produce stuff and we must keep the shareholders happy. that, is truth. However, engineering plays a key as well as durability testing, even from these so called, other countries.
What did you end up with? We replace this J-bar with a woods 7ft that we purchased on FB marketplace.
Bro that’s actually crazy cool. Life is beautifully weird and wonderful.
I did my ‘03 GT today! I too had that feeling about that’s a BIG Drill! After double checking the instructions and triple checking the set up, a brief prayer, then i squeezed the trigger on my air ratchet. There was a lot of torque, it stalled a couple of times but the job got done. After cleaning some of the chips, I set up the tap. The air ratchet didn’t have enough starch, so I used my 3/8 impact gun. Got the threads cut, and cleaned the cylinder and set the insert w/ hi temp locktite. Tomorrow Is the big reveal…
Well… how’d it do?
@@HurricaneHomestead She’s running Great! 👍🏼 Like it never happened!
Thanks buddy....very helpful
very nice. Have several questions, how far apart are your 2x6 rafters and also how far apart are your lateral firring strips? Do you think it's possible to screw in the metal panels without having to stand on the roof at all or would you not be able to reach the far side of the panel you're screwing in from standing on ladder? Little bit nervous about standing on the roof myself. Thanks for any info!
so how do you seal it from rain and are you going to stain it at all?
My dog got at one of our chickens and must have bit down on its leg. She is limping around and dragging the leg behind her. Should we splint it? There’s no lacerations btw
Looks real good sir!
@Hurricane Homestead I made picnic table but when the other person stands up it falls back with another person😂.where did we go wrong?
