Was I The Jerk for Getting So Angry?

Just a bit of a rant and story about why I got so angry while on what was supposed to be an enjoyable day out with my family. I'm not sure I've been so angry at a stranger in all my life. I guess I'll not be doing this ever again!

I respect your anger in that situation...
There's too much overbearing authority nonsense and not enough good natured community behavior in this modern world.
As you said, the mall didn't have any obvious notices informing the public of their "new rules", and to refuse your kids the opportunity to get to you (their legal guardian) is a breach of public trust.

I'm not sure why security units feel like it's OK to keep minors separated from their parents, especially when the child is attempting to get back to the parents. The were being held hostage. You kept your cool. I would contact the mall and protest a chance in policy, especially since they all but kidnapped your kids.

I hate that mall! So if your son and driven your daughter there to shop they wouldn’t have let them in either? Have I mentioned that I hate that mall. The mall security there can be so incompetent they never knew what they were doing when I worked security at individual stores there. I’m sorry that happen. I would have torn the place down. I really hate that mall!
