Adobe's PR Nightmare Continues
Adobe is under fire again, this time for updates to its Terms of Service and the ensuing backlash. In previous videos, I covered Adobe’s initial response and how to disable certain settings in Photoshop and Creative Cloud. Yesterday, June 18, Adobe updated their Terms of Service, but the day before, the FTC hit them with a lawsuit over dark patterns, particularly concerning cancellation fees. As a long-time Adobe user, I’m torn between my appreciation for their software and my frustration with their business practices. Have they done enough to rectify the situation? Let's dive in and find out.

Why Professional Photographers Get Better Results
I used to work in IT, and part of my job was dealing with our different clients Adobe Licensing mumbo jumbo. One of my least favorite aspects of the job was dealing with Adobe, as it was always a rough time. I still remember the time they gave one of our clients a free adobe creative cloud month, to EVERY single employee with adobe products. Then, when the free month expired, they started spamming the employees with big alert notices about how their license was about to expire. I had tickets for weeks with confused, concerned, and upset employees who thought they were about to lose their acrobat license, which is all they needed, but it was just the stupid free trial of creative cloud that was expiring. Adobe of course, did not make it obvious which license was expiring. They never even used those free month of CC!!
this is what a lot of software makers rely its the time to relearn a new application
I canceled today, that's sad, my whole life working with ADOBE, I've switched to Affinity Photo, now I have no choice but to start learning AFFINITY PHOTO from scratch
Tony Northrup had an excellent video, he used the cover photo of his book to show that Adobes TOS refused to allow him to load that photo for editing, The notice said it may be pornography. It was a fashion photo with no nudity whatsoever. So this change involves far more than a few legal terms.
Thank you so much
I moved to Capture One 4 years ago whilst also moving to Fujifilm from Canon. C1 renders Fujifilm raf files really well. I used the free version for Fujifilm for a year or so, then bought the Pro version in a sale. It is as good as Lr and very easy to transfer to. I still have Lr as the subscription hasn't finished yet, but I won't be renewing this time!
Adobe history its a long story & the monster grows as big as f... and know surprise...the monster is feeded with customers ...to spite out gold coins and Adobe chain holders decided oh feed him more...
i could literally feel your anger thru the screen. i have made the choice to Affinity suite. just not worthy the energy and time with these greedy people. i use my wallet to let them know.
Nah y'all shall say F this company
What pisses me off is they also increased their price by $60 dollars for the annual fee. WTF.
16:00 Wait. No one said Adobe claimed ownership over works people created. The problem is that they said they'd be using it AS IF they own the works people created to train their generative AI. They didn't outright claim ownership but they might as well should have according to the first ToS.
Many people were saying it on X and Threads and Facebook.
Thank you for this video, my life is so dependent on Adobe is rather sad. I've been looking for a full professional alternative to all the programs and its been hard. If you know of those alternatives I would trust your opinion. Thank you much for this video.
nailed it 💯 in every way
i feel like you are the one misrepresenting the TOS. the wording is very clear. the following "trust me bro" clarifications mean nothing.
Expensive? Which business can you run or start that cheap? lol
As a solo entrepreneur? Quite a few. Many don't require more than a computer, such as any type of designer.
Adobe are a disgusting untrustworthy company. Worth noting, anyone using Adobe software for their clients personal information yourself or via your business will be operating outside of the General Data Protection Regulation. Note, you're are specifically required by law as an operating business to protect your clients personal information. If ADOBE is stealing the rights to your clients information and you or your business knowingly agreed to their terms to allow them to do so you could potentially be liable, prosecuted or fined some ridiculous amount of money. Their are already lawsuits going through by Sony Music, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group, who've announced they were suing the AI music companies Suno and Udio over alleged copyright infringement for using their produced content to train their AI systems. What's going to happen when your client starts seeing Adobe churning out content based on their content? What's going to happen when they get wind that you or your company gave Adobe rights over their content. 😂
recent updates of Photoshop, i find that Generative !A is offered, sometimes just takes over certain operations and null out my creative decisions in favor of the AI choices. I can't delete or turn it off. I was not ware of the fact that they stated they were going to use my images, I just assumed that they would do so whether I liked it or not. I'm glad the Feds (and the world) finally caught up with them. In fairness, 30 years ago I was using pirated copies of Photoshop as it was so prohibitively expensive
Auto-harvesting your paying customers' work to cut them out of the creative process is such a short-sighted kind of evil
I gave up on adobe products a long time ago. It’s like a cross platform virus that works on Mac and windows ! 😂
Adobe always lies
Their subscription terms are predatory, while their products have become bloated and clunky. Also, I don't think it's just the generative AI aspect, it's that they take data from your entire computer, and all connected devices. 'Training' doesn't have to be about images, it's mainly used for mass surveillance.
Just cancelled all my adobe subscriptions. So done with this shit
EASY ANSWER: It's quite obvious that Adobe used your images for training. Then lawyers told them, you better ask for consent so they added the checkbox. Then people saw it and said no, we're outraged. Then Adobe stopped using the images and said "we don't (present tense) use your images". Then they removed the checkbox. If they now admit that they used your images in the past for training, they will face legal repercussions, so they will never admit this unless by force. Done. If this is NOT the case, they would easily come out and say "we never used your images", but this would be a lie because they obviously did use your images.
I can tell the people who've never been to art school. Art students learn by studying other established artists. You don't learn with your eyes closed in a vacuum. In order for an AI app to create 'art', it also has to study already established/created art. It's the same thing. How else can it create illustrations or composition if it's never seen any? It's not stealing anything. It's LEARNING from all the various forms of art. I'm really getting tired of the chicken little mentality.
The best answer to Adobe's behavior: Affinity.
You know...."play stupid games win stupid prizes" adage? "support evil companies........
So glad i canceled my photoshop two years ago.
Excellent tips. Such a great naming convention. Thanks for sharing your system. 😊👌
+1 UCB!!
Switch to Affinity. I've worked with almost all of the DTP software since the 90´s. Affinity is a goof option and also a way to criticise Adobe.
I thought the micro-expressions thing was discredited as being mostly made up. And I'm not sure that guy expressed disgust as much as he was behaving like a generic youtuber, overacting and over-reacting and thinking it's cool with the kids if you make stupid faces while talking. All that aside, Adobe is absolute rotten trash. Worse, much worse, than Autodesk.
I remember Adobe when Photoshop was at 1.0 and before they started gobbling other companies up. They were a pleasure to deal with. Same story as all companies - there is no avoiding going full corporate as you grow.
F adobe we don’t care anymore they don’t deserve the tiniest sympathy
Adobe is unusable if you have signed nda’s with larger companies. They will do this again.
got an adobe ad at the start of the video
This situation is comically familiar to those of us with long careers in print production. I started using Aldus PageMaker way back in the '80s, before Adobe bought out Aldus and made PM one of their crown jewels. PM was groundbreaking in its day, but it had significant shortcomings that limited its usefulness in long-document layouts. Enter Quark, whose XPress offered much greater control of graphics and text handling, in addition to vastly improved master pages and print capabilities. QXP quickly became the industry leader, and it was used for nearly all serious document layout in the mid- to late-'90s. I was a Quark power user in the v3.32r5 glory days, providing tech support to several teams of typographers in a busy composition house. Beginning with v4, however, Quark became arrogant and lazy, rolling out continuous price increases without addressing serious program errors. Adobe was pretty scrappy back then, and they introduced InDesign as a clean-slate replacement for PM. ID blew Quark out of the water with its modular structure, intuitive interface, and innovative support for transparency, native PSD handling, and direct PDF export. Over the years ID just kept getting better and better, until suddenly everyone had pivoted to the revolutionary new program. Over time, however, Adobe became as greedy as Quark, hiking perpetual license fees until finally introducing the hated CC subscription model. Things have only gotten worse over time as Adobe doubled down on price hikes and feature bloat. So here we are, with a huge base of pissed-off ID users tired of Adobe's shit and looking for fresh alternatives. I've tried Scribus, which really isn't suitable for serious production. Affinity Publisher seems like a semi-workable option, though it will need to add stability and feature support before it becomes widely accepted. The biggest irony, though, is seeing people propose QXP as a serious option. Who could have predicted that much-maligned Quark would suddenly resurface as a contender for the print production industry?
This is an eye-opener for consumers who don't want to read the terms and conditions of the contract and just click "ok". Adobe took advantage of this and foun out it was a BAD idea...
blocking adobe on the firewall doesnt make it?
Dig the glasses.
If you clicked on the "original" terms giving adobe access to your and your client's info are you held to that and only others in the future not held to that?
I was so impressed with your intelligence and how you articulate yourself. I subscribed and look forward to more content.
Adobe is run by shareholders. Look at Hollywood, run by SONY, etc.
Does this affect only images on Creative Cloud, or does it in some way include images/video saved on personal media?
I Charge 150 for an hour, just because I like being reasonable
If you feel that's what you're worth, that's great!
Subscribed due to the honesty & value of information (new photographer here.) Greetings from NYC! 😎🤙
5:42 😢
This detecting lies trhough microexpressions is a little bit overstated it's not a reliable way to say someone is lying...
Never said they were lying.
I had to pay a fine for 3 months cost (30€ for me) but i can only keep the product for half a month. Absolutely disgusting attitude against longterm customers.
Absolutely disgusting attitude by adobe. Cancellationfees on monthly subscriptions and adobe attempting to use my work amd watch my private photos is absolutely unacceptable. Any pronor semiprofessional photographer should understand that it is a gross breach of most contracts to have product, modelling or boudoir photography shared with a third party where they can freely use amd watch that content. And even worse when it comes to photos of my girlfriend or nude photography. Absolutely unacceptable. I unsubscribed and suggest all to do thte same. This monopoly is power was grossly misused and we must show them that this is not okay. This was done without my knowledge. I never noticed this until after the drama started. And i was hit hard ny this. It hurts. I have had real clients shared with adobe and private stuff too.
