Scroll Saw Animal Puzzle Overview www.WoodcraftByScott.com
Hi Scot In awe of your talent and discipline! Truly a master craftsman. I have a question, on one video tour of the shop I noticed a Hawk saw. I have a 220 and it drives me crazy but I have no reference as it is the only saw I’ve ever used. Obviously you are committed to Dewalt …just wondering are the advantages just so tremendous? Cheers and thanks.
Hi, so, basically, brand of saw is a personal choice. Many folks love Hawks or Dewalts or Pegas, etc. PERSONALLY, I did not like the Hawk and ended up donating it to a local organization that teaches woodworking to kids. I did love the DeWalt, but the last 2 I got had electrical issues and I gave up on them and now I have a Seyco and I am very happy with it. It's like asking people what brand of car they like, you'll get a dozen different answers. Happy to chime in with my preferences.
Do you not have to adjust the tension on your blade each time? Is that because of the Pegas holders?
Hello Do you have the link for the black hooks please. Thank you
Hi Pierre, here's a link to the antique bronze, black, silver and white... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0828T9KGM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=A2KV4Q8WIC9RQR&th=1
Hello Scott can I ask you what blade you were using btw really interesting video
Hi, I use Pegas Modified Geometry #3 for everything.
@@scottseifer4551 thanks for the reply Scott
Very interesting Scott. I have a question - how do you finish off the piece? I generally sand with 240 grit once cut out and I put the puzzle inside the cut out to support it while sanding. However, just cut a "Bee Kind" and there is a load of veining in there. Do you do anything to celan out veining or just leave it as is? Thanks, Jack
Hey Jack... What you see is it... I don't sand any of my work, I'm too lazy ;-) I dip the puzzles in mineral oil to bring out the color in the wood, that's it.
It has been a while between videos! Thanks for sharing. Love your work. 👍
Hello, what oil should you use please. Thank you
what and the model of your laser please. thank you
Great workshop set up. You thought about all the details that suit your needs. Thank-you for the tour
I would like to create some puzzles with the animals' names in them. Is there a resource to help me learn to design them?
Hi, the items you see that I make are all hand drawn by Harvey Byler. He's been drawing them for 20 or 25 years. He's happy to put any name in any of his patterns for $21 each. You can certainly give it a try. I've tried and failed miserably. LOL
And if you're interested in any of Harveys designs, you can go down to the PATTERNS area on my site and purchase them for $3 each with free immediate download. www.woodcraftbyscott.com
Hello Scott, which blade do you use for your puzzles? (MGT 3 ?)
Hi Pierre, yes.
Hello scott Do you have the link for your wick to make your holes please. thank you
Hi Pierre, I don't understand your question. I realize English isn't your first language. Feel free to message me on FB if you prefer, or email me at WoodcraftByScott@gmail.com
how to play with this game (rule)?
what kind of wood do you use please
Why don’t you just replace the bearings and sleeves on other saws that broke. Several how to videos on RUclips on how it’s done.
Hey Vinnie, yep, I've watched them all and Bob Brokaw is the guru of it. I'm simply too busy with a full time job and at the time I had 2 side businesses as well... and... quite frankly I'm not too mechanically inclined. I did try once and failed miserably, so it's just easier to buy a new saw and at just $500, it's a very small part of my cost per puzzle that I make and sell. (1000 puzzles sold per year)

Is there a pattern available somewhere from you?
Hi, I grabbed one off Google and sized it to fit on a 5 1/2" wide board. So feel free to use anything you can find, but I'm happy to send you mine if you want to email me at WoodcraftByScott@gmail.com
Very impressive, thank you for posting
Thank you for sharing, Scott!
Thanks Scott! That is exactly what I worked out as well.
Thank you for posting, very interesting.
Guess the laser place went out of business? They are out of everything.
Thanks Scott. Forgot I had this until I saw FB post about this video. Came in day before I went on vacation so threw it on a shelf in its packaging and forgot about it - over a year ago 😂😂
There are several versions/options for arm lifters, be sure to check them out if interested in getting one.
What kind of wood are you using and do you cut them out with a scroll saw, nice project.
Hi Rafael, thank you. I use Poplar and yes, everything is cut using a scroll saw. You can view all my other videos where I provide information about what I do.
I've been wanting to record my pitch for quite some time and never could remember to do it and being a one man operation it wasn't easy. But I got it done today at my final weekly market. I had the phone on a stand so that's why it's just aimed in one spot.
What brand jig did you buy for this process Scott ?????
Hi Hewitt, I upgraded to this one after my initial inexpensive one was lacking. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099JG2SMC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Awesome information, thank you for posting, the golf tee base made of wood or other, then painted?
Hey Tim, the golf tee games are wood bases. Oak or Poplar, whatever I happen to have on hand.
@@scottseifer4551 Thank you
Hi Scott, I cut the Doodle non-puzzle for the first time today. I noticed with all the detail in the face a weak point is created with lots of movement. Have you tweaked this area at all?
Hi Paul, yes, a great example. I simply don't cut one or two of the details that get too close to the other detail areas, thereby leaving a little more wood and making it a little more stable.
What jig is that?
Hey Scott , it's Graeme from Adelaide in South Australia , really love what you're doing now , you seem to have alot more variety now than when I first subscribed , looks great mate.Be in touch soon for some more patterns.👍
Hi buddy, to clean the holes could you use a counter sink bit?
Good thought Ron!
Hi Scott...saw in a video where you include an anchor do you have a link to those? Havent seen any in little bags like you have. Thank you very much.
Hey Josh, I stopped supplying them to customers, but these are the ones I chose due to the length of the screws... need to go through the 3/4" wood and still have enough to fully screw into the anchors. I simply sorted them into little bags when I was handing them out. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051IAOTI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi Scott, this saw sounds louder than your videos with the DeWalt. Is that due to camera location or is it louder? I would be interested in hearing your comparison/contrast with the DeWalt as you have so much experience cutting with the DeWalt. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hi, I don't know that I've noticed the Delta being louder, I'll try to pay attention next time I cut. It's a good saw, built on the same platform as the DW. But 2 things I'm not crazy about... One is that while the Delta has a built in arm lift, it requires both hands and is in the back. The 3rd party arm lift I use on my DW is easier and can be worked with one hand. The other thing is there is no light specifically for the Delta and the DW light can't be installed because the mounting screws for it on the Delta are on the opposite side. For those 2 reasons I'll stick with DW. Glad I got a chance to try the Delta though.
Ola amigo oque é isso..? É uma feira de scroll saw?
Flipping the wood over assumes the sides are parallel.
Awesome video Scott.
Scott, I finally got a laser engraver. Now, I'll try making a few of these. Its been a while, did you say you have a pattern with holes spots laid out on it? Maybe I missed it on the video, I'll look again. Thx Dennis
Hey Dennis, I simply found a pattern online and sized it to what I wanted. Happy to email it to you if you want to email me at woodcraftbyscott@gmail.com
This is where I buy my bags... 9x12 is my personal choice. www.papermart.com/p/flat-shrink-bags/4937
Why didn’t you center the name in the middle of the bone from top to bottom.
Hey Ron, sorry, to clarify, you asked about from top to bottom... I add hooks after the engraving. See examples here... www.woodcraftbyscott.com/collections/all-puzzles/products/key-leash-holder-with-custom-name-in-base
@@scottseifer4551 thanks for the clarification. Looks good.
Great video Scott. Glad it's helping your sales.
Here is where I bought mine. The $205 NEJE 3500. Nancy is the best... nmclasers.com/shop/ols/categories/laser-engraver
Nice little laser machine. Great video. Thank you for sharing. Where are you going to provide the info where to get it and Nancy's info. Thank you.
Here you go Sergio, I just added a comment with the info. Thanks. nmclasers.com/shop/ols/categories/laser-engraver
