Really appreciate your videos on how to set up for sales. Also love your puzzles. I do some work that includes leather work, scroll saw backgrounds and stirrups. Would love to know more about shrink wrapping. Got any sources for learning the process?
Hi John, good to hear from you. I did a video showing me shrink wrapping a puzzle. ruclips.net/video/_43dsULC9tU/видео.html and the shrink wrap bags I use are the 9"x12" bought from here. www.papermart.com/flat-shrink-bags/id=4937
Awesome setup, thank you for sharing with us. How much do you sell your finished product for, if you do not mind me asking? Also how do you come up with a price? Thank you, you do great work.
Hi and thank you. I sell them for $25 each. I've only been making them for a year and that was the initial price I came up with and they sell well. I get a lot of people that say I could charge more, and then I have some folks that walk away. It seems to be a good price point.
Hi Paul, thanks, and I wish I could take credit for the pattern design, but they are made by Harvey Byler. He's an Amish gentleman in Ohio and he's drawn over 700 different patterns, all by hand. I also sell his patterns for him thru my website if interested in any.
Hi Erwin, I sell the patterns for the artist, you can go to www.woodcraftbyscott.com go down to the PATTERNS area, they are $3 each with free immediate download. Let me know if any questions.
Hi Graeme, I use watered down food coloring. I use distilled water to avoid any mildew growth since it sits around between use. I just started spraying the bases after they dry with a spray on clear finish to help keep the color from fading.
It looks like your puzzles (very cool by the way) are assembled but loose pieces. How do you hand one to someone purchases it - do you have a way of keeping it put together for them?
Good morning. I keep them "loose" for display purposes. They can be picked up "vertically" from a standing position without falling apart. When someone purchases one, if it's an animal I have duplicates of, I give them one that is shrink wrapped in advance. If it's the only one I have with me that day, I shrink wrap on the spot (assuming I have access to electricity at that particular event), otherwise I put it in a small bag, similar to the ones you put veggies in at the grocery store and I use a twist tie to close it. Here is a video showing the shrink wrapping process... ruclips.net/video/_43dsULC9tU/видео.html Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for viewing, Scott
Question: Being that there is really no waste (between pieces) when it comes to making puzzles, doesn't the hole from the drill bit show up in the finished product? How do you deal with or get around that?
Hi Rob, the only places that holes are drilled are for the insides of some letters like "O", "A", "R" and for eyes usually in which you're cutting away material so the drill holes don't show up.
Hi Graeme, I use food grade mineral oil (the same thing used on cutting boards and to clean restaurant equipment). I dip the entire puzzle in the oil, then put them on the rack that you see to dry for a couple of days. It is an oil and never completely dries 100%, but I've never had a complaint or issue.
Scott Seifer thank you Scott for the quick reply. Do you just give a quick dip or do you let them soak for a while. Also can you just blow the exess off with air blower on a compressor.
I'm happy to help. I hold the entire puzzle together and dip it in the oil, a quick dip, letting the excess drip off, then lay it on the rack. I don't know that an air blower would do much, but laying on newspaper or rags would wick away excess quicker.
Hi Scott, You have so many patterns to choose from, it makes it hard to decide. LOL I have already purchased and cut 6 of them following your videos and it has worked out great. I'd like to buy some more patterns but figured I would pick your brain first. With so many dog patterns, which do you feel are the most popular. Then with all the other patterns, you mentioned sea turtle in your video, but what others seem to be crowd favorites. Last question, where do you find the mineral oil you use, I've only seen Danish Oil and Tung Oil and Mineral Spirits (think that's a brush cleaner). Thanks in advance
Hi Robert, I'm glad you enjoyed cutting the first 6... now you're officially hooked. :-). Below is a list of my top selling items in 2017 and keep in mind I live at the beach, so the sea creatures are very popular. I buy my mineral oil from Amazon in 1 gallon jugs. Hi Joseph, the artist is Harvey Byler and I have permission to sell his patterns. See my website. www.woodcraftbyscott.com Anything you see, I have the patterns for and can sell them for $2.50 each and I email them out. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Joseph, send me an email to discuss orders please. woodcraftbyscott@gmail.com I use Olson Mach Speed #3 blades. I know of other scrollers that use a #5 blade. I suggest trying various sizes and go with what you're comfortable with.

Scott Seifer thanks mate , you don't have any problems with the rack marking them as they dry.
Hi scott love the puzzles, how much sanding do you do after you cut the puzzles out, do you just roll the edge or leave it only. Thanks Ed
