    Love the new intro! I have two propane tanks on my travel trailer, so when one runs out, I turn it off, turn the other one on, check to make certain it's working and then I take the empty one to be refilled. This assumes I'm stationary, of course. If I'm on the road, I usually stop at a Love's or other place that has propane. I refill my gasoline on my truck at a half tank when I'm on the road and a quarter tank when I'm stationary. As you know, "stationary" does not necessarily mean plugged in. I've been boondocking since the 3rd week of October. We're getting a lot of wind right now and it's pretty chilly, yet still warmer than you are.

    Cool, it looks like you've got a great set-up and are prepared to brave the cold. This will be the coldest winter we've spent in our motorhome off-grid here in NC, as its forecast to get down to 15 degrees where we are Wednesday. We're living off sun power and propane without hook-ups. We must run our furnace, burning propane when the temp dips below freezing as this is how our coach keeps our tanks, pipes and lifepo-4s from freezing, by diverting warm air to our underbelly. Our furnace blower draws 8 amps, but as long as we have sun, our 5,020 watts of solar and big battery bank keeps everything powered. After 3 days of no sun, we must start rationing power to keep everything running. We run our propane water heater to keep it save too. We'll probably burn through about $10-$12 a day in propane, but it's still cheaper than spending $500 more for an RV site with electric. A no hook-up site here is only $100/mo., while FHU sites run $600/mo.. Plus we'd still need to buy propane anyway to keep our underbelly warm. Our 35ft, 1999 coach is pretty well insulated with dual pace windows, etc. We use Reflectix, like you do, to help hold in the heat, especially covering that big windshield up front. One thing to remember is to add some alcohol or other antifreeze to your windshield washer tank to stop it from cracking in the freeze too. One final tip is we put a mechanics drop light with a 40w bulb in the basement compartment with our sewer valves, to keep them from freezing. To save power we bought a, Easyheat thermostat at Lowes that turns on when the temp drops to 38 degrees and off at 50 degrees. We plugged the drop light into it and placed it near the dump valves, running an extension cord to it for power.

    Good tips! I can't believe they didn't at least have one spigot free for you to use to fill your tanks. Here in Oregon they always do that-even if you have to use the camp host's spigot, they would expect you'd need to fill tanks when you're paying for it and weather is bad. It's 25 degrees during the day here for me lately-brrr! But I am in my house....wishing I was out camping though!

      I know what you mean, the weather is not cooperating! I was surprised to find no warming and no alternative sources available. Glad the U-Haul was there for propane and water.

    I own my house outright and the insurance, taxes and maintenance is about the same as yours. Which will be far too high for me when I want to quit working and just live off my SS. I have cut all other expenses to the bone and even so would not be able to afford it. So selling it is the only option. What to do after that? RV is an option. Renting a home. Buying a cheaper home. So many options. Not sure which one is right. But I may get an RV and try it for awhile and see if that life is for me. I have always wanted to travel up and down the West Coast. When I lived in Phoenix for over a year I didn't do any travel because I was working 40 to 50 hours a week.

    • @sally_forth
      @sally_forth 8 дней назад

      There are so many options and you're on the right track! It can take some time to find the right fit. I am a Real Estate Broker and sold the American Dream of homeownership for decades. At this point the idea of calling a landlord to fix something is pretty appealing (if I ever decide to move back into conventional housing.)

    This is/was my first year in the LTVA at Quartzsite. Also my first year being homeless in a class A motorhome from the mid 90’s. It cannot get into MANY Rv parks because of its age. I live on SSD under $1000 a month. For me it is a blessing that I could make it to Quartzsite and pay for the entrance fee. With an increase to $600 for the season. I will be unable to pay my bills or even get gas for that whole month. My bills are over $375 per month and that doesn’t include gas to get to the store or pharmacy to get my meds. I could understand if it made it to $250 to $300 for the season (September-April) but not $600. Quartzsite will lose out on money spent in their city. Also the large gathering that happens in January will suffer too. The large tent will not get as many people/visitors/customers and the vendors around the area will suffer losses as well. Many will stop coming when they notice that sales are way down. Those vendors still buy things from the city and stores here in Quartzsite. If they increase the LTVA price to $600 they are effectively killing Quartzsite, Arizona.

    • @sally_forth
      @sally_forth 12 дней назад

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm hopeful that the LTVAs will not opt for the full $600 for the 25-26 season. They have not made an announcement as of January 16, 2025. I talked about some alternatives to LTVAs that still allow you to be in the Q area. You can check that video out here: ruclips.net/video/gUVjrJ3FpqY/видео.html

    Hi Sally. I just watched this video and then watched Irene Iron Travels' video. That exact same thing happened to a 5th wheel that was passing me leaving Albuquerque NM November '24. I flagged the driver down and motioned for him to pull over. His tire-less wheel was scraping the pavement as he passed me. Same placement as Irene Iron Travels' wheel/tire, too. I think I'm going to get me a temp measuring device for my pull behind trailer.
