Honda Jazz Crosstar - Sat Nav - Very Poor
I have not found the Garmin Sat Nav in the Honda to be of any use, this is an example of why. The settings are set to the quickest route.

My first long(ish) journey in a new Honda Jazz Crosstar where I give my thoughts. This is not a review this is a Drivers ongoing journal for those who might be interested. I will also add videos in a kind of "How To" of using the many features as I learn and use them myself.

Hmm. But if the fastest overall journey that day was via the M6 - perhaps due to a pile-up somewhere at some point on the M1 - it would be correct.

Having seen a lot of video reviews on this car, yours is refreshingly different. Well done. Liked your honest, open approach. Any suggestions? I like seeing the road ahead from the drivers viewpoint, then I can understand the conditions you are facing (though I do like your taste in tee shirts!).

Hi..Want to buy another jazz, but !!!!!! What is point of me giving up my 20 reg jazz ex petrol, for another petrol with a battery that gives me a bit more power and about 1 or 2 miles in electric for about 9 grand more than I paid for the petrol car .......should I stick with what I've got ???

I get 60 mpg out of my petrol 1.3jazz ex , on a motorway at 60 mph..car cost £15k new , plus my car has done 23k miles, and have 4mm on front and 5mm on back remaining.. so hybrids are a complete rip off..

Hi Mouse, I am considering a hybrid Jazz at the moment and your commentaries have been extremely entertaining and informative. Everyday driving information is far more helpful than a revue. Excellent. Many thanks. Pete, Jan 23.

This new generation of Honda Hybrid does not use a mechanical CVT system with cones and belt drive, it is more of a serial hybrid where the engine drives a generator that feeds an electric motor turning the wheels. Above a certain speed a clutch closes between the engine and wheels, bypassing the generator/motor (electrical CVT), directly driving the wheels. The earlier Honda hybrids (IMA system) did use a belt CVT and motor where the flywheel would be on an engine, but not this latest development. Check out Alex on Autos excellent description of the system.

One of these (EX prob) will be my next car. In my 2016 1.3 Se I get 38-42 in town and 55-65 on motorways (speed dependant) so given that most of my journey are local, happy days.

Honda have a habit of false readings with tyre pressure. Just check and recalibrate. I had this on my civic straight from the dealer . Had to re calibrate a few times. Trouble is i had a slow puncher once and ignored the tyre pressure warning :/ The range is reliable, it will re calculate on your driving style and change to the average MPG you are doing . You can turn off the steering wheel assist , but have to do it at the start of every journey. I leave it on, but not keen on it. Lane assist does work, but like you i don't trust any tec On a trip i tried it all out, adaptive cruse control ,lane assist etc and the car basically self drove, but i was ready for it to fail , it did what it was meant to do, but i still don't like it . Good thing about setting adaptive cruse control is the car will use road sign recognition and adjust speed to the roads speed limit, good for an area you don't know and cameras .

Had my crosstar 6 months now, came from a 2020 civic. I prefer the looks of the civic, but i am a big unit, so a car low down was a pain. The Crosstar is probably the easiest and best car i have driven, not the best in looks, but the trade off is great fuel economy and easy to drive. With the current price in fuel i am glad i got it when i did . I am getting depending on time of day going to work 70 to 80 MPG, home at peak time and driving a little faster around 60 to 65MPG. This is winter driving and i noticed the MPG took a big hit in the winter, when i got my car 1st of September MPG was always in the mid 70s to mid 80s and nose dived the colder it got. I noticed with heating on and aircon on, the engine would stay on most of the time, depleting MPG. So i kept it off, relying on the heated seats. I use B mode coming up to roundabouts and cars and coast in D mode. As i noticed permanently in B mode you will use the accelerator more . I use it like an engine brake from HGVs i drive. Its about thinking ahead . What i like is a compact car on the outside but not so compact for room on the inside. Only let down is boot space. I have a friend who is 6.5 and could not believe the room he had in the back and said this puts bigger cars to shame. As a driver i find the car incredibly comfy and the infotainment is a big step up from Hondas previous attempt I love using my android auto and spotify . What i don't understand is why the crosstar does not get the heated steering wheel like the EX trim , but hey we get a sub woofer and water repellent seats. All in all very happy and this hopefully is my stepping stone in to full electric Unfortunately that's not going to be a Honda, at this rate. As they are lagging far behind in the Electric car market and have nothing really to offer . I been looking at a BYD Dolphin that's very similar to the Jazz, gets great reviews and a leading company in battery technology.

Don't despair, car not run in, tyre pressure should be ~35psi, headwinds, 70mph all the way! I regularly get 150 miles out of 1/4 tank, mi Mpg over 1 year (real calculation using always fill tank to top and spreadsheet calc) is 61mpg for 7,000miles in 1 year. A brilliant car, smooth drive, reliable and sometimes locally 70mpg! Good luck ( lots of details on some of your comments on the Honda Jazz forum)

@@mouse-hondajazzcrosstardri240 I’ve had a gen 4 Prius for 5 years and at 70mph I’ll get just 50mpg as at that speed you are mostly on the petrol engine so not much benefit from the battery but at lower speeds or in town or extra urban you are on the battery much more so 55mpg up to 70+ mpg. I used to run turbo diesels and for motorway journeys only they will get better mpg than a hybrid so it’s a balance. You’ll also get into maxing out regen using hills and making the most of the hybrid drive train. Apart from motorways you should be getting 55-65mpg on average. Hope it improves for you.

@@mikesaunders4694 Hi Mike, yes I am doing a new video. If I drive on the motorway at 55 mph I get 83mpg, at 60 mph I get 68mpg and at 70mph I get 52 mpg. You wouldn't have thought you'd get that much of a difference!!!
