How to make Easy Scribus Layouts in 15 minutes
This is literally the perfect tutorial for me, thank you!!!
Great tip, thanks a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey I have a problem, I'm currently using Scribus 1.6.2, and when I open the edit dropdown, the notes styles section is gray rather than black, meaning I can't access it, if I click on it, nothing happens. Can anyone help me out with that please? Thanks
It's not clear what dropdown you are referring to. If you are having issues adding Notes/Marks by selecting Insert followed by 'Marks'; You may need to enable the feature. As of Scribus 1.6.2 this feature has been flagged as experimental. You can enable the feature by selecting File, Preferences. Then from the Experimental section, check the box 'Enable Notes, Marks and other related features' and select 'Ok'. @HuzaifaParachaHim
@HuzaifiParachaHim you have to enable notes in Scribus now which you can do by ticking File > Preferences… > Experimental > Enable Notes, Marks and other related features
@atmmachinePC ohhh alright, thanks matey
That is mighty helpful, Thanks brother !
You're welcome. Feel free to share this video with anyone else who might find it useful as well.
Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
I feel it would make more sense to highlight the use of linking fields for something like text around an image, because there is an inbuilt column function that works very well. Also, I would have liked to see some more about how to get the text to sit just as it should to look professionally. As far as I can see, the only option for that is grid and guide snapping in master pages.
About 16 minutes in, he covers how to make the shape button drop down appear... In case you're as lost as I was. Click and hold the button until drop down appears.
Is your audio out of sync? I'm now realizing that it could explain why what you are explaining leaves us guess for 10-30 seconds before you tell us what you're doing.
Ok... You're clicking all over the dang place, talking about stroke and no color, then fill to gradient, but you don't tell us what you DID or did NOT select in the work area, like we're psychic. This may be the most frustrating tutorial I have tried to follow in the past decade.
HOW did you get your side-window with content properties open? *EDIT1* OOOOF!!!! Searching around and guessing my way through that interface sucked big time. *EDIT2* WTF?! You're clicking on these shortcut keys and pulling up things left and right as we attempt to follow along before you even tell us, after clicking in a menu for something else... it's VERY confusing combination to learn from... And WHERE in the hell is the "Node Panel"?!
The monophonic voice whispering in the left ear is earnestly disconcerting when using headphones.
Thanks for making this series brother, look forward to learning a lot from you!
I'm glad you found the videos helpful. Feel free to share this channel with anyone else who might find them useful as well.
Thanks for this useful video. What is the name of that "handwriting" style font used for the maths equations? And how do I install or use it?
The font used in this video for math equations is the default font used by the Latex render frame.
why my content cover my guides?
Guides are intended to provide a visual representation of borders. If you are looking to use your guides for alignment, you can right-click on the canvas and select snap to guides.
Can you tell us what is Welding in Scribus
Welding in Scribus is similar to grouping. The difference is in your ability to resize welded elements individually.
aha thanks for that. I will experiment.
You're welcome. Glad you found the tutorial helpful.
Hey mate, been trying to learn Scribus for a while and just found your channel, it's a blessing, really. Would you be interested in doing a short tutorial video covering the basics of Scribus? I know you have your tutorial series but if you could take the essentials and compress it in a simple "Everything You Need to Know About Scribus" video I think that would be really helpful for those just needing a launch pad but are intimidated seeing the 20+ tutorial playlists out there. Also what music do you use for your videos? It's giving early 2010s Nintendo Wii energy, (in a good way).
Thanks for the suggestion. As far as background music it's just a mix of standard ambient music-nothing too special really.
Obrigada
De nada! I'm glad you found it helpful.
Such fun. I used an ellipse shape to attach text. I found it worked even without converting the shape to a beziere curve. I'm using 1.6.2. Only problem... the text came out upside down, attached to the bottom of the ellipse. By contrast, using an open ended beziere curve that wasn't a closed form like an ellipse... there the writing came out the right way up. Curious
It is possible that the orientation of the text is determined by the direction of the Bezier curve path.
all explained so clearly. These are very well planned tutorials compared to most and they show above average teaching ability and insight into what a learning person would find tricky ! Image frames worked well but some of the effects will not execute. I see no changes to the image. After several reruns of the video I don't know why.
That is unfortunate. What version of Scribus are you using and what Operating system are you running. We have made several publications using Scribus 5.8.x and the latest stable release 6.x on Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 11, and Ubuntu without issue. Is there a specific effect you are trying to achieve?
looked through 00, 01, 02 and 03 and didn't find the 'book layout in the first video in the series' mentioned at about 0.30...confused
Unfortunately the design recorded in the first video was just a cover image design and a template was never created.
thanks
Glad you found it helpful.
I'm having problems applying this to a double page document.
There are a few reasons you could be having issues. One of the most common is that a Master Page to each page or assign the Master Page when creating/adding a new page.
Hi there ... can't see what you are doing between 3.58 and 4.04
During that time we are adding a text frame to the master page, and with the text frame selected we are clicking Insert, Characters, followed by Page Number.
would this be good aplication for zines?
Absolutely. You can use Scribus to create print or digital Zines.
I don't see the content docked on the right with the layers and content, is there I way to get it? I got the layers window, but it is only floating. Otherwise great video.
You can access the Layers window by selecting 'Windows' from the standard menu and then selecting 'Layers' or by pressing the 'F6' shortcut key on your keyboard. You can even dock the floating panels by clicking on them and dragging them to one side of the screen or the other.
Thank you so much for providing this tutorial. It's very helpful for me in 2024. This tutorial is not hard to understand, especially for me who live in Indonesia.
Great to hear! I'm glad to hear you find these Scribus tutorials helpful.
Wonderful videos. Thanks a lot
Glad you like them!
I currently looking how to make alphabetical index to a book in scribus? Do you have tutorial for that please ? honestly this is a pain , or scribus do not have option like that. Thank You,
We do have a Scribus tutorial on footnotes and endnotes, but nothing on creating an alphabetical appendix for a book yet.
Thanks a lot, noone tells you that you have left click for two seconds before the default shape mode is open. I was real confused before i saw your video. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS...
Glad I could help
I really can't understand why everything is Adobe Creative suite (apart from the fact that industry is financially committed and Adobe has them over a barrel. Good to see companies like Affinity challenging the status quo. But Scribus really deserves a much higher rating too - I'm getting a lot of value from your videos - thanks! :)
Glad you are finding these Scribus tutorials useful. I know that many open source tools fall behind on the available feature list when compared to paid software. The Scribus development team has still been turning out updates and new features over the years. I'm looking forward to the next round of updates and the UI refresh as well. A UI update might make the application more accessible to new users.
@@TopCLAX Agreed, A new or updated UI could make a huge difference. I like the fact there are various ways to call up the same tools. Some tools, though, seem superfluous, (eg. spiral), improvements could certainly be made here. It does feel a bit like a program that's been added to over the years rather than being given a ground-up redesign, but maybe, that's just my point of view.
Very helpful - It's good to see how you went about your design work to create this door hanger. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much
You are welcome. Glad you found learning about how to import text in Scribus helpful.
In a hexagon I have not been able to round its corners, not even in the polygon properties is it possible. I need it to embed images inside it. Thank you!
The corner rounding tool is intended for use with the rectangle shape only. There are a few workarounds. 1st, you can create a rectangle, round its corners, duplicate the shape and layer and combine the shapes using the Boolean Path Operations tool (Item->Path Tools->Path Operations...). 2nd, Use the Polygon tool, From the Polygon Properties window set corners to 4 set factor to 50% and inner curvature to 12%. You can adjust the values to get the desired outcome and see the result in the preview window before adding the shape to your document. 3rd, You could double click the shape to open it's node editor. From the Nodes window you can apply curves to each individual corner. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for this. It’s so concise and structured really well, SO professional and informative. Feels like it’s from a class I’d have to pay for lol
Glad it was helpful!
Love this video, really helped me "get" Scribus in a way I was really struggling with. I'd love to see some videos that integrate bleed and margins for physical printing. (you may have some already but I've watched a few Scribus videos from your channel and haven't seen it yet so I'm still looking)
Great suggestion!
Thanks that explained a lot but there is a bug in the config\my config maybe you could do a video on how to configure the tools correctly on each platform Mac Win Linux?
Thanks, that's a great suggestion.
Can we just import the table from Microsoft Word? It would me more convenient!
You can't exactly 'import' a table from Microsoft Word. However, you can copy a table created in Ofice Libre. The table will be 'imported' as in image/graphic and will not be editable-so any updates would need to be done within the word processing application.
thanks for your excellent tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
please create tutorial
Will do. Are there any specific types of publications that interest you such as flyers, brochures or posters?
Also, are there any particular themes that interest you that we could incorporate into a design, such as sports, fitness, travel, games, etc.?
Thank you so much We are really appreciate your hard work
Consider creating longer tutorials- not speed art
Thanks for the feedback.
Very Nice!
Thanks!
Great stuff! I'm excited to start learning scribus so I don't have to assemble all of my zines in google slides.
Thats great to hear.
