      Knock on wood, we've had zero leaks in our 29view. We use all the plumbing regularly, and I keep a watchful eye on things. Our last rig leaked at just about every fitting in it, so I'm rather paranoid when it comes to that. Only plumbing issue we had, was I forgot to separate the grey/galley tanks before heading to the dump station. When moving the rig, the grey came out the shower and flooded the camper...

    Great DIY. I have been building a storage solution for my trucks the last few years, in my head, lol. at the begining I was wondering about the traction boards, but now I remember why you would have them. I definitely like that bed slide, just not sure how well it would work with all my different uses for my bed. Thanks for the great video.

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 3 дня назад

      I'm not going to lie, I had totally different intentions for this whole project. Originally I was going to mount a Titan Sidekick tank on the drivers side, and I can think of several occasions where extra gas would have been awesome; but that didn't happen for several reasons. The traction boards were a last minute purchase, arriving the day before we left for Silver Lake. I really like the cargo glide, it rarely hinders things. When it is a hinderance though, it can be a real PITA. I'm lucky enough to have a dump trailer for most of my hauling. Thanks for watching!

    When we bought our Starcraft 212 FB new in 2021, it came wearing Castle Rock tires that were 7 months old. This was our first travel trailer and I'd never heard of Castle Rock tires, so did a little research. I couldn't believe all the "China Bomb" stories, but, lacking experience, I couldn't ignore them, either. Double checking, the tire specs were the same as the Goodyear, so I figured the Castle Rocks would be as good. and that the Castle Rock horror stories, especially the one where the writer claimed he had one blow up while in his spare tire carrier, were anomalies. After my first Castle Rock blowout around three thousand miles later, I made the switch to Goodyear, but cheapskate-slow-learner that I am, I kept one of the brand new, never used OEM Castle Rocks in the spare tire rack, just in case. Had to be good enough to get me to a tire store if one of the Goodyears failed, I reasoned. Wrong. Just days ago, prepping for an upcoming 6 week trip, I found that the unused Castle Rock, kept properly inflated and covered in the spare tire carrier, had experienced internal band separation, deforming the tire and rendering it useless. My advice would be to get the best tires you can afford, but think twice before buying Castle Rock.

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 5 дней назад

      I would definitely never suggest anyone buy a Castle Rock tire. The Goodyears are definitely the way to go. Our new Travel Trailer came with another brand, which we're monitoring closely, 3,600 miles in now, will replace with Goodyears at some point.

    CastleRocks are absolute JUNK! Forest River continues using China garbage and should be ASHAMED! Check your spare, you may get good tires then they'll sneak a crappy CastleRock in for your spare. We had a blowout and would have been safer on bicycle tires. What a JOKE CastleRock tires are. American made tires all the way!!!! China tires are CRAP! Our friend had two CR blowouts on the same trip. We take care of our tires and all three tires had low miles, were taken care of and we tow at 65 mph with a light load. Go figure! I can price out a Ford with the 7.3 for around $10k less than the Ram. I do get X plan with Ford. However, I’ve seen Ram gas trucks discounted at least $10k and even $20k in some cases. I’ve got a Power Wagon currently and the only reason I’m considering a change is due to the payload. A benefit of the Ram over the Ford in my case is the ability to put it in my garage. It fits with a couple inches to spare. We don’t have kids so a larger cab isn’t a necessity to us. What amazes me is how difficult it is to find a Ram 2500 on the lot with the surround view cams and other tow focused options. I guess a bunch of people buy 2500s to just drive around. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 27 дней назад

      @@That_Paul_Guy I do think both Ford and GM trucks are just too big to be practical. I just don’t see the necessity of a bigger cab, and my RAM fits in my garage much easier. Power Wagon payload is definitely not ideal, otherwise I’d have got one. I also find things “on the lot” to have really odd options. I don’t think it’s the buyers, more so dealerships wanting to keep price points low.

    I don’t like the R3 for the same reasons you mentioned. We have a brand new Travel Trailer and it came with the R3. The tow home was scary. I talked to the dealer ship and they were useless. The R3 manual was vague on how much to tighten the sway control. It said to tighten to your desired sway control. Well, I want as much as I can get. The next time I towed I tighten more than the dealership. It was much better. But, it’s seems it’s a little different every time we tow. I don’t think we will keep the R3 long term.

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 27 дней назад

      @@bobdrawbaugh4207 I can’t see not wanting maximum sway control, the adjustment is stupid. I have no experience with the r3, but I’d probably crank it up all the way every tow. Great vid!!! I view an Electrical Management System as a "sidearm". Is it necessary...no! But I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Although the consequence of failure is nowhere as serious as not having a firearm when you need it. If you have an electrical issue at a campground or elsewhere, the consequence of high/low voltage, electrical spikes, no ground can be very costly and even deadly. Plus I am continuously monitoring the volts supplied to the RV, the amps being drawn by the RV, and any electrical faults on the display mounted inside the RV. I'm with you, every RV I've owned, the EMS was the first thing I installed.

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 29 дней назад

      I definitely think it’s a good thing to have. Personally, I think the RV’s ought to come with them installed. Add an extra couple hundred to the MSRP, and save me the hassle. I do occasionally look at how much power I’m using these days, especially running both A/C units at the same time.

    Several times a year I read in different camping groups about people having their pedestal surge protectors stolen from their site. Good move on getting the hardwired version.

    • @mountainsintomemories
      @mountainsintomemories 29 дней назад

      I could see those being an easy target. There’s no good way to lock them up either, and just another thing to mess around with. I just always see people saying you “must” have a surge protector before you ever go camping.

      It all depends on what you want to do. Mines set up for camping so it was a pretty basic build. I added things over the years to improve comfort and help extend how long we could be off grid. RUclips videos of other people's builds is how I learned systems for the camper.

      There’s a lot of numbers and mumbo jumbo involved in any sort of electrical system. RVs in general can be very overwhelming, getting off grid just makes that harder, that’s why most people go to packed campgrounds. Thanks for watching!
