Nice video. I think you would grow the channel / get more views if you used a better naming format for your videos. The town you are visiting should be mentioned early instead of the name of your channel and the episode number. This Brantôme video is a good example of the right way to do it. When I scrolled through the list of all your other videos I can’t tell what they are about. Even writing the town name as a graphic on the video thumbnail would be a good option for people scrolling through your list of videos. Just a suggestion because I think you should have more views because your videos & editing are great
@@user-ft6on1gi7n thank you so much for your sound advice - I never thought of that before but will surely follow your advice in the future. Thank you very much 🤗
Oh Leon, we would miss your videos. We like to see your art and your students art. Please don’t stop, remember that the people who enjoy you, really enjoy you.

I visited Versailles in 2014, and I think the Hamlet was my favorite place of all. The gardens and the old buildings are lovely.

A very warm welcome to the channel 🤗 I am taking a short break but will be back soon. In the meantime you have many episodes you can explore 🙂 Have a wonderful day and a Happy New Year!
Your murals are going to be so beautiful!! I cannot wait to see the work in progress. I on the other hand loved the Marie Antoinette vlog
It would be great if you documented the mural
@@violinchicklet thank you - so looking forward to the mural project! I am amazed at the reaction to the Marie-Antoinette vlog: nothing spectacular and not my best vlog by far BUT this morning nearly 30,000 views 🙄 C'est la vie ! Nicolette, wishing you and yours a stunning New Year... 💐✨️🌟💛💖💛🌟✨️💐
Sounds like you have a busy year ahead! Those murals look fantastic. Glad that you are taking a little break to recharge: I cannot imagine the effort that goes into putting together this channel. I did not realize the blowback you got on your Versailles series: it is fun to see your travels, and people shouldn't take the name quite so literally. It is hard to say what I would like to see in your channel in 2025 beyond what I enjoy in this one. (I am sure that we will get a number of videos of the murals being completed, so no need for me to suggest that, even though I am really looking forward to them.) Your life is what makes it so interesting. I love the garden: maybe visiting other friends' gardens would be fun? I also like it when you are visiting with other people around town. Has the little restaurant your friends were working on opened yet? I'd enjoy seeing more of that (maybe a few on what it takes to make it a success - not just the cooking, but how they get people in rural France to know about them). I like wildlife videos, so maybe something on the wildlife of Chalus? A small series on local farmers markets would also be fun, especially to see seasonal produce and more info about the square (and town) where they are located. At the end of the day, just continue being Léon. That is what keeps us coming back. Happy New Year!
@@I_like_pears merci mille fois ! Chris, you have given me many ideas - I love it 👏 My friends will now only open this coming summer because of building regulation hassles. Soon I will start featuring them again and do a build-up to the official opening. Furthermore you are right - the progress of the murals will often feature. I am also taking a break in order to make some minor changes at home, which I will share st a later stage. Bonne Année cher Chris and thank you for your support 🤗💛🤗

Dear Leon, your videos have filled me with so much JOY. I love your Art/ Culture content and would be delighted if you could continue your visits to other interesting artists, artisans, jewellery makers, writers, musicians…your interviews have so much gravitas and genuinely bring out the best in so many of your featured interviewees…I also enjoy your cooking inserts. Also, looking foward to your progress on the Mayor’s Chalus projects…I also enjoy your Brocant visits, and love witnessing your purchases…Eleanor od Aquitaine and her Son, Richard are particular interests, and would love to hear more about their lives in the early middle ages..where they lived, and a glimpse into their lifestyles. Walks are also such an informative way to show us your world…much love from a fellow ex art teacher, lecturer and painter, now living in Queensland, Australia..xx
@@LOUISEGROVEWIECHERS thank you so much for your detailed feedback - I like the idea of more interviews (time might be a problem next year), so I will make an effort to find some interesting people. Happy New Year, Leon! The murals and coming exhibition sound exciting! The exhibition in Sanilhac was interesting... of course, I had to find it on the map! LOL! I wish I knew how you could get input on what people want to see from those who are not watching! But I am no help. Those of us who watch regularly like what you are doing. Perhaps a more important question is what do you want to do with the channel? The time and effort you have put into this has not been financially rewarded, yet has been rewarding in other ways. Do the things that bring you joy and skip the things that give you stress. Ha ha! Easy advice for me to give with the difficult implementation thrust upon you! I trust you will find your answers. Good luck, my friend!
@@lawrencebaker2318 thank you so much for sound advice: you are absolutely correct 🙂 Although not financially rewarding I love doing the vlogs and communicating with the regulars. So, after a break, I will continue as usual, especially with all the new projects next year but with one exception: no pressure on delivering every week! A very Happy New Year to you too Larry ! 🤗✨️🌟💛🌟✨️🤗✨️🌟💛🌟✨️🤗
You should curate content for the folks who want to watch it, and ignore the drive-by-trolls who only leave toxic comments behind on the way to the next video.

@@tresfeles2784 thank you so much for your feedback - many things happening next year which means lots of new material for the channel! I've looked at RUclips recommendations, I regularly receive emails from people in mainly India who want to help me grow the channel (at a cost of course) but I already do most of those things. Taking a breather from it all will help, I am sure. Take your time, but not too long 😊. Love the ideas for the murals. So country and so related to the area and France. There is some amazing talent in those amateur paintings. I wish you success with the exhibition. Also the challenge that lies ahead with creating and applying your artwork on that building in the town. As for the unwarranted criticism, the channel title clearly indicates that you have chosen to live in rural France. Live, not just exist. So, travelling from your rural base to visit eg Paris, Versailles and Honfleur and friends and exhibitions is what someone with an inquiring mind would do. I’m saddened to see the low subscriber uptake figures and understand how disappointing and frustrating that is for you when you put in so much time and effort. Your videos are uniquely yours. It would be a dull world if all content creators chose one style. As for how to alter your approach I would have to take time to consider. In the meantime I wish you all the very best for the New Year ahead. 😊
@@johnoleary528 thank you for your extensive and valuable comment! My response to the criticism was exactly what you said: operating from rural France but visiting larger towns and cities too. Leon, I have had no issues with your videos or content. Rather, I found them very interesting. You do a mix up of content, plus you do your own research, filming, editing, and I for one really appreciate all of your efforts. You take us on journeys with your visits to places out of rural areas,in your artwork, and sharing your visits with your wonderful friends. I, for one, will be sorry to see you go but I will always wish you good tidings and prosperity. May 2025 be an awesome year for you. My hubby slipped on a wet step going out to take out recycling last night and fractured a rib. He was in ER for the night in pain. He will be very sore for a while. We went ahead with a visit from our grandchildren and parents. I would gladly lose sleep to see them, even though they are all 4 toddlers and girls born during covid. It was close to their bedtime when leaving, which meant they were all cranky and ĺoud. I hope you change your mind and stay, but as we say say, you do you. You know what's best, and is it worth all of the effort for you. May your cup always be full. Best wishes always and a very Happy New Year to you.❤

Leon, I have tears in my eyes as I watch you. Tears of anger that anyone would criticise your interesting, artistic, sensitive, informative, beautiful and cultured postings. Tears of frustration and puzzlement that your numbers have not risen the way that you deserve. I too am disappointed about that. Tears of sadness when I saw your sadness. I cannot make suggestions on how to make your channel more appealing. Your choice of music has been exquisite. If some people suggest that you ‘jazz things up and make it like a tv show, so be it if that is the way to get your number up. @@RuralFranceJournals our tour guide said, it's a place where Marie Antonette had little gatherings and where she would meet her lover. It's so beautiful i\I'm glad and jealous that you have an annual pass, lol
@bellsca1917 interesting! She had lots of secret meeting places it seems 🙄 I researched the Swedish count and he was the one who helped them escape from the Tuilleries after the family was brought to Paris. However, they were caught. The count was killed in Sweden many years later.
@@RuralFranceJournals Yes, he was her lover, but she did also end up loving a caring for the King because he was just such a nice man. So the problem with their escape was several things, 1 the kind insisted on using his biggest Carriage and filled it with their things, this was a huge mistake because it slowed them down. They were near the border but the king insisted on stoping in a small Village, of course he was recognized and were caught. Very sad because of these two things, they were captured. They were so close to surviving, I get sad even when I think of it.
@@RuralFranceJournals Yes, he did help. They adored each other and he came to rescue them. Here is when the problems happened that would seal they're fate. 1) the King insisted that they take his largest carriage which ended up slowing them down, and 2) he insisted on stopping in a small village to get out and stretch his legs. Not only did the Villager's recognize him, they were also quick to alert the guards. They were so close, but for those two things, they would have made it to safety .
Why did they not have carpets in at least her private apartments and bedroom? Weird

Much appreciated! Just gorgeous place, it's just a shame of the whole human back story, but glad it's here to see now and kept intact. The bedroom with moving mirrors! They need to bring that back for sure - every modern bedroom should have this!
@@RaraAvis1138 thanks a million for your kind comment - much appreciated 🤗 Indeed a sad history and after a lot of research slightly unfair. I also loved the mirror idea in the bedroom 🙂
@RuralFranceJournals Yes, she did not know any better, like many young girls used as pawns.
Happy belated birthday, Leon. Also, best wishes for a wonderful Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2025.❤
@@peterwhite9261 thank you Peter - the video was also a bit post-birthday 🤣 Merry Xmas to you too and a prosperous 2025 🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄

Lovely, I wish you’d show more of the interiors!!!😊
@@brosisparty4194 thank you 🙂 Unfortunately the spaces were quite small and crowded with visitors, so it was difficult filming the interiors. I am also very careful with other people around because of the strict privacy laws in France.
Very well done🎉

Happy late birthday and Merry Christmas, Leon! It looks like you had a wonderful trip, indeed! Your friend's studio apartment was absolutely charming. I have to admit that I don't think I could do it! I love my excess space! LOL!
@@lawrencebaker2318 thank you very much 🤗 I was also wondering if I could ever downscale to the studio's size but on the other hand: less cleaning! A very Merry Xmas to you too Larry 🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄
The smaller cottage homes are so quint. I could see her and the children enjoying the fields and gardens as if normal people. Sad the way their lives turned out.
@@pumpupjam9648 the whole hamlet is beautiful but it was interesting to see that the 'rural effects' like aged wood etc were painted to give that effect, like a stage set. Another interesting fact was that the eggs had to be cleaned first before she and her children came to collect them! I do believe she was judged too harshly and eventually became a scapegoat for the people's anger.
Happy Birthday Leon. What an interesting and thoroughly marvellous celebration 😊😊 what a delightful friend you have in Therese. Here tiny apartment is so orderly and I was salivating at the sight of the pasta dish. I wish you a very Happy Christmas 😊
@@johnoleary528 thank you so much dear John - Therese organised the best birthday!!! The pasta dish was 😋😋😋 Merry Xmas to you too 🎄✨️🌟✨️🎄
