Procumbens Juniper Bonsai Removing Wire

In this video I remove the wire on this tree that I applied in April of this year. The wire cut into the bark on only one branch that grows to the back so it will not be noticeable. I thought I would contrast how long it took some wire to cut in on this tree versus the Brazilian rain I featured in my last video that took only one month for wire scars to appear.

The freshness date on some of these is over two years old. They also work for me because they are virtually the same dimensions as the typical oval shohin pot. That means much less root manipulation to go from these containers to a bonsai pot. I've also never found a commercially made oval pot. They're either round, square, or rectangular. Hey, maybe I could contact a plastic pot making company and have them start making an oval training pot. I'll make million!!!! Or not.

      Thank you! Tamarind has no thorns. The leaves are also a little larger than the rain tree although they are both legumes so they look very similar. Since I don't know where you live, I couldn't possibly try to figure out what you've got growing in your yard. If you like you can email me a picture to Bonsaibyalan@gmail.com and I'll do my best. • @Bonsaibyalan
      @Bonsaibyalan 8 дней назад

      They will definitely need cold protection in NC. I recommend growing it outside for as long as it's hot and then bring it into a heated greenhouse in the winter. The interior of a house, especially in winter. has virtually zero humidity that makes it very difficult to keep humidity loving tropical trees. I hope that helps and good luck!

    Can you grab them off the tree to start this process?

    • @Bonsaibyalan
      @Bonsaibyalan 10 дней назад

      Yes. I collected the cones off of two different trees between November and January last winter. It's best if you can get them right as they are about to fall apart but I took mine sooner than that. I planted some right away and stored some in the fridge for about a month. The ones in the fridge began to fall apart in storage and then I planted them too, mostly in February. I live in zone 10 so the timing of when to harvest, how long to store them, and when to plant may vary depending on where you live.

    • @TimStJohn-xp8rv
      @TimStJohn-xp8rv 10 дней назад

      @@Bonsaibyalan I guess what I am asking is, they are still on the tree now. Green, I live in Oklahoma. Can you explain to me what I can do to get my own trees started. I have access to grab them anytime.

    • @Bonsaibyalan
      @Bonsaibyalan 10 дней назад

      @@TimStJohn-xp8rv I would wait until the cones turn brown or yellow brown. I took some green cones very early in our season (Nov) and they were hard as a rock and never did split open and so I got nothing. I can't tell you when that would be because your season is so different to mine but I would say at least two more months or more (Sept, Oct). Sounds like you have ready access to the tree so just keep an eye out for when they begin to change. I got the best germination when I stored the cones in a paper bag in the fridge for about a month. Once again spring comes way sooner for me so you may need to store them for a longer time. Some people recommend storing them in moist sand if the storage time is going to be more than a couple of months. Hope that helps!

Several viewers asked about aerial roots and the tree will only produce aerial roots when it is pot bound.
