Best Japanese Snack Box Subscription? Our TOP 4 Picks Reviewed
Watch out for the hidden shipping fees with @wearesakuraco #sakuraco. I paid $390 for a year subscription and was billed $520 due to shipping. These fees were not clearly stated before the purchase went through. It was difficult to reach someone in customer service and they will not refund my money, even though I canceled the order 5 minutes after I made the purchase and saw the additional $230 added on.
Do not be scammed by this company. I purchased a year subscription for $390 and after I hit the purchase button the total amount was $530. There was a hidden shipping fee. I immediately went back and canceled the order. Yet, they started shipping the boxes. It’s been a nightmare trying to reach someone to help. They finally wrote to me and said they will not refund me. I agree that I will pay for anything that has already shipped but I want a refund to my credit card for the rest. They will only offer a credit voucher. $390 is a lot of money for some snacks but to check out and see $530 appear after the purchase was made is total scam! Do not buy from them if you don’t want to have to deal with the hidden fees.
Number 2 as its my only choice for now. Did the job perfectly I thought.
Number 2 works totally fine! 😄 if and when you have access to a bamboo whisk, we highly recommend you give the traditional method a go 😌 you’ll get an experience like any other
How do you store them after you finish making them?
Thank you for your question 😃 Let it air dry for a bit (30 mins or so) to allow any surface moisture to be released. Then, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. For us, it lasted for 4-5 days before it started losing shape and taste.
Bubble tea is bad for you
And the you probably need too pay inports tax on it😊
Tokyo treat January and February 2025 no soda 😢
Thank you!!
You’re welcome 😊
Hi, thank you so much for the instructive guide, it have been really helpful for me, I want to implement this boba tea in my café, but all the providers that I have found in my country sells unsweetened white tapioca balls, in which part of the process do you recommend to mix it with the brown suggar? I have thinked in 3 options, - Mix the balls with a brown sirope when they are dry and after cook them. - When I'm going to cook the white tapioca balls bring them into boiling water with brown sugar added into the it and the last option - Cook the white tapioca only with water and just mix with the syrup at the end. In a bit bit confuse, can you please give an advise? thank you in advance! ❤
Hey thank you for your comments and question 😊 preparing the tapioca pearls for commercial purposes will require additional considerations, but if we were to prepare a big batch using unsweetened tapioca pearls, we would simply do option #3. Cook them longer in brown syrup to try and infuse as much of the brown sugar syrup. Having said that, option #1 seems worth experimenting with. All the best! 😊 let us know how it turns out
@honestfoodtalks lovely! Thank u so much, I'll share my results
I love your presentation style. I'll give some of these a try!
Thank you for your kind words, it motivates us to publish more videos 😊 let us know how it turns out!

taro
We like taro too! 😊 You can check out our video on how to make it using fresh taro too ruclips.net/video/-ar-JAawj2I/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I’ve only had them once on some Thai ice cream , but the mango were so good .
It adds that burst of flavour don’t they? 😋
No soda I Tokyo treat In the one I got in January 2025. And it don't seam to be any one in February 2025.😢 Live in Sweden and was looking forward too the soda.
Ah hopefully they'll include some sort of canned drink next!
this bobas are eatable or not ?
Yes they're edible 😊
I will try this in my chemistry lab 😂😂😂
Have fun ☺️
Can you also add it on fruit soda?
Yes you certainly can 😊 weve done w orange soda before and loved it

Any questions about our recipe? Let us know and we’ll be happy to help 😊
Can i use milk instant of water
You can but it will change the taste slightly
Have also had amazing Ube takes on it as a different option the taro with a lil ube foam even maybe a splash of ube cream liqueur with blueberry lavander booze soaked boba pearls for a cocktail take with a shot of rum has been a winner too here.
Sounds delicious!
Yes we dicovered it a tea shop in like 2018 and its been a regular thing in our diets since. Really enjoy the real plus powder the most, as thats how we get it at a few different spot such as ding tea or 85cafe and either do the smoothie taro milk tea or regular taro milk tea but you gotta always have it with honey/brown boba and egg pudding and if really in a sweet tooth of a mood we either add on top the sweet whipped cream cheese on top it or a few place do a creme brulee to top it off. The just real deal ive had done good but also horrid like happy lemon we stopped at in Gilroy CA was just terrible in comparison to say ding teas real taro version. So usually advocate to have both if possible as the best option, but just the powder is really good too. We also buy it in bulk online and have regular tapioca boba pearls and purple taro flavor pearls as well but theres a few really good taro powder blends that are good and you cant beat the price if really into it as you can get 100 plus drinks in some of those bags incomparison to buying a walmart taro boba kit for $10 and only get three drinks or buying at the tea shops at $6 to $8 a pop especially with all the fixings like we like. Trying to find a good dehydrated egg pudding powder as ive tried to put homemade egg pudding and its not the same as that jelly like one they serve at tea shops which is from a powder. I know they sell it just gotta find a distributor. If you havent tried, i highly suggest you do if reading this.
Thanks for sharing! Didn't know theres such thing as egg pudding powder! We usually just make it at home - if you're interested this is our recipe we use for making egg pudding www.honestfoodtalks.com/egg-pudding-custard-boba/
not impartial, so this is SO useless!
Sorry you felt this way! Let us know what other factors/points you would've liked us to cover for you
People spend $30 for a package full of snacks, treats and a kitchen ware but will complain that those $30 didn't get them the most high end stuff possible. Same like those people that book hotel rooms for $50 a night and expect to stay at the Hilton Hotel.
😌😂
sakura for me!!!
Enjoy!
Buying a 6 mo subscription as a Christmas gift for my Japanese wife. Been debating Sakuraco vs. Tokyo Treat but going to roll the dice with Tokyo Treat as she likes more funky snacks. 🙏
Happy that our review helped you make a decision! Hope your wife enjoys it! ☺️
Sounds interesting!
Let us know if you try it out!
Easy and simple receipe
Great, thanks
You are welcome! 😁
Hello ma'am your lovely ricepis how many days laif with freez without freezing.?😊 please anchor
We've never tried freezing them as we reckon it will turn out icy and no longer pop when you bite into them. Let us know if you try it out!
I know this is a stupid question but how much sodium alginate and calcium lactate did you use. In the recipe it says you use 6g of calcium lactate, but in the video it looks like you used like the whole tub. I’m sorry just a lil confused this may seem dumb
We used 6 grams of calcium lactate, and 5g of sodium alginate. They are relatively light, so it looks like we used a lot 😊 we’d suggest using a digital kitchen scale if possible. Also, there are no stupid questions! 😊 Enjoy making popping boba ❤️
Which one that you could buy without subscription?
These are all subscription based. You could subscribe and then cancel (this is what we did before) but we have seen a lot of people (especially in US) complain about not being able to cancel their subscription. So we'll let you know if we come across any that aren't!
I love the selection and the idea, but I have to disagree with the two points made here: for one, 2 weeks is not fast delivery time loll, and secondly, 10 to 15 dollars for shipping is quite expensive,
Thanks for your comment! Definitely agree that it would be nice for delivery to be quicker! From our research, there were other snack boxes which have a 3-4 week delivery timeframe and some which aren't very reliable so in comparison we thought this was reasonable 😊 Shipping is expensive for any snacks boxes coming from Japan 😭
@honestfoodtalks given that they have a short shelf life, 3 to 4 weeks is unacceptable
@@shanchahua definitely means you'll have to eat them in a shorter period of time
Tip: If you want a smoother and silkier texture, replace 1/3 of the condensed milk with evaporated milk. 😊 Please leave a like if you liked this recipe video ❤ it’ll help us out!
So not worth it. Subscription scam. And the snacks generally are t great.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience! Let us know if there are other ones you recommend or how you normally get your Japanese snacks instead! We're always down to try new ones 😊
Hey: there is an Asian grocery store here in Albuquerque (several but we live talin market) and I take my kids there.
Looks beautiful with comparison of all the boba! I hope and wonder if you figured out a way thats not a mould and faster than spherificafion?
Thank you ☺️ for making it at home, the mould method is still the most efficient method from our experience. Any other method would require devices that are not so affordable… if you have any other ideas do let us know! 😃
Hi! How long can these be stored in the fridge before going bad?
Based on our experience, itll last about 1 week in the fridge in an airtight container
What brand of match powder is this ?
It's Aorashi - amzn.to/48XKpt0
Or you can just do gelatin and fruit juice. Mixed together, bring to a boil and then let cool for 20 minutes. Using a syringe like in this video, you drop little pearls of the gelatin juice mixture into ice cold water!!
We'll give it a try 😊
That sounds far simpler.
I feel like that'd replicate tapioca pearls vs the popping boba, I'm sure it's still just as good, but without the pop lol
I love this I was introduced to it at a Korean BBQ restaurant a few weeks ago
We tried it first at Korean BBQ with dak galbi 😊
matcha fanatic here...thank you for this 😊 i hope everyone has a matchaful day :)
You too!
If I subscribe in Tokyo treat will I pay for the subscription?
If you subscribe to their monthly or annual subscriptions, you'll pay the subscription fee. So if you don't want to, then we suggest only getting 1 box to try first 😊
They will automatically renew though
can you guys also do a review of "Japan Crate" vs "Tokyo Treat" ?
At the moment we don't think Japan Crate has a very reliable shipment time for us to do a review on a few boxes like this video. We've tried ordering from Japan Crate in Oct 2023 but shipping was delayed twice. Customer service was nice when we chased about the Halloween box but we were told there was no more left and they suggested changing our order to a Christmas box instead. The Christmas box only arrived at the end of January 2024 for us. We'll definitely consider doing a review in the future once we feel enough time has passed for them to solve any supply issues they have.
