When I open steam it takes me to the game mode not so helpful:/ ik close to shooting this steam deck

it is not working for me on the gamepass version

My issue is that I don't want to switch between the gyro and the trackpad all the time. For turning 180 degrees, I have to use the trackpad unless I use gyro and end up being more awkward to use. I tried increasing the gyro sensitivity, but then it increases the sensitivity overall in aiming. Any idea how to fix this ? Cool custom skin btw. 👌

Is the emulator Mupen64 via RetroArch? Does it play the games well? Any noticeable emulation issue?

Do you find it difficult to aim compared to a KB+M setup? Normally I think the Deck can handle almost any genre of game, but HL2 feels a little punishing due to it's older design philosophies (no regenerating health, crackshot npc aim, etc.). Just feels as though you could get by with a lot less damage on KB+M.

You like gyros? Gyros are bad!!! …I asked an expert, that being my little 10 year old brother, who plays way more video games than me. And he said gyros are bad! He then asked me what a gyro was.

How do you map tilt controls for games like galaxy?? Also I can’t get the joystick to register for movement.

The touchpad input doesn't work for me in v2.12. Only the main menu (short click) or map (longer click) opens. Big Picture Mode was also active. Any Ideas?

I made it all the way to the end, but upon importing the 'Retroarch' controller template, I can see the touch pad menus, but Retroarch doesn't populate the keyboard shortcuts that show up. UPDATE: I FIGURED IT OUT! Read below for full directions. In the meantime, here's a few notes for anyone else coming behind me trying to do this, just a little updated info from 7 Apr 2024 on Retroarch 1.18.0 on SteamOS 3.5.17: 1) The Start button used above does not clear a selection in Retroarch's hotkey selection. It will actually instead Reset to Default and close out of the menu (or if you're in Desktop mode, enable the Gamepad). X is now the button to clear a hotkey binding. 2) The locations of the hotkeys that get released from their binding is different, but the verbiage is pretty much the same. Save State + and Save State - are now "Next Save State" and "Previous Save State". You will actually want to just clear all of the hotkeys except for Menu Toggle (Controller Combo) and Quit (Controller Combo). 3) As mentioned elsewhere in these comments, the video doesn't show saving of the configuration in Retroarch. By default (for some reason??) Retroarch is configured to NOT SAVE your configuration changes when you exit the menu where you just made the configuration changes. To address this, after you make your configuration settings changes, back out of Settings to Main Menu > Configuration File > Save Current Configuration. (If you get an error where it's *still* refusing to save your configuration changes, make sure that you're not in one of the cores/emulators. If you opened the Retroarch Menu from in game, like I did, you'll need to go to "Close Content" from the Quick Menu.) 4) In case you rarely use it, Steam + X pulls up the virtual keyboard, so you can easily navigate in a browser to this video to click the link. 5) Your destination for pasting the file (don't forget to have View Hidden Files on!) is Home > .steam > steam > controller_base > templates. Once there, you can paste the file (left trigger is your right click). 6) At this point, upon importing the template as in the video, I could access the left trackpad radial menu, and I could see what keys those menu buttons were associated with, but looking at the hotkey assignments in Retroarch, they were still all blank from when I'd cleared them, so the radial menu didn't do anything. The solution was to exit Steam again, and go to the Discover store to download CoreKeyboard (a more robust virtual keyboard). Unfortunately, this covers the bottom of the screen (where you go to select the Start button and navigate to Retroarch), and I couldn't find a setting to bring up the new virtual keyboard. To work around that, we... 7) Open your start menu, navigate to Retroarch, and right click (Left Trigger) and click "Send to Desktop". Then make sure the shortcut is in the top half of your screen. 8) Open your CoreKeyboard (covering the bottom third of the screen), and then use the arrows in the bottom right to navigate the desktop, highlighting Retroarch and hitting Enter to open it. Navigate Retroarch using bad controls (touch and the d-pad, mostly), going back to the hotkeys. Set your hotkeys to the same things you see in this video as Moskeeto is navigating their hotkeys, showing us what to clear. Do this by selecting the hotkey with your touchscreen, and then holding the button you want to map to that key on CoreKeyboard. You don't actually have to map all of the different options Moskeeto had, but these are the handy ones worth doing: Quit - Key Escape Fast Forward (Toggle) - Key Space Fast Forward (Hold) - Key L Slow-Motion (Hold) - Key E Rewind - Key R (note that if you want to use this, you'll have to enable Rewind by going to Settings > Frame Throttle > Rewind > Rewind Support). Pause - Key P Frame Advance - Key K Load State - Key F4 Save State - Key F2 Next Save State Slot - Key F7 Previous Save State Slot - Key F6 9) After doing all that, don't forget to go back and SAVE your configuration before you exit Retroarch! To do this, go to the Main Menu > Configuration File > Save Current Configuration. 10) Now you should be good to go!! It took a little bit of work to get these extra steps figured out, but thank you for putting together this template!

I don't wantt to paste your layout. I just watnt to use trackpad as hotkey and it's not letting me.

Im trying to set up gyro on the pc port of forbidden west on my steam deck, and for some reason "right stick as joystick" isn't an option to select in gyro behavior. I played through all of HZD with "right stick as joystick" enabled, and was hoping FW would have the same option.

Sony is lazy and full of politics and buracatic nonsense. They can easily implement a system wide gyro support to emulation joystick movement like the steam deck with the potential and their controller features. What a waste! It’s a huge benefit to most of the games
