For many games, you could also map the dpad as the C buttons, and have the left trackpad as the dpad. Since many n64 games don't use the dpad, this should work.
New sub here. Very easy to follow video and I see you have a long list of videos outlining and reviewing several aspects of SD playing and control customizing. Keep up the work!!
@@Moskeeto Im pretty sure if you use a old version of trioforce dolphin you can manage to run mario kart arcade gp dx2. but theres no youtube channels posting content about that for steam deck
Hey these settings do work, only issue is for a game like Killer instinct gold which is my all time best game the buttons sometimes lagg a bit, any solutions?
I dont know about anyone else but this setup is extremely unresponsive, i tried to do this with the back buttons too and both time i had nothing but dropped inputs, barley responsive
So I'm playing Diddy Kong Racing on my Steam Deck, n recently got a Switch Bluetooth N64 controller. I link's up no problem, but getting the buttons configed proper is close but not perfect... anyone do this already??
Hmm for some reason this does not work for me, it doesn't register the button presses even after enabling these settings. I couldn't get it working for Resident evil 4 either when I tried to make the trackpad for aiming. Odd
This video tutorial is made assuming you used EmuDeck to set up your emulation. So it's all based off the default controls it sets up. However, I haven't messed with emulation or EmuDeck in quite a while now so it's possible they have changed the default controls since then.
Figured it out. I was experimenting and had gyro controls enabled and it messed with the trackpad. Turning off gyro made the trackpads work as a button pad like in the video 👍
@Ian Moises I noticed setting it to joystick made it work much better. And no need to change any inputs. Just make sure it's set to "joystick" and not "as joystick"
The point is that it's emulating pressing down on the C buttons so it's more like the N64 controllers. The N64 doesn't have a right stick so flicking on the trackpad makes no sense for N64 games.
@@Moskeeto Yeah I suppose, I dont like the feel of the track pad for clicking actions though. Might be better for some games I guess. Can also see missclicks happening. Generally speaking the n64 controller is one of the worst designed controllers in history, despite the great games.
Thank you! I was a bit confused with the button programming. This just helped me create a standard N64 layout and a layout for N64 Mortal Kombat games

I had a question on a game? do you think you can run mario kart arcade gp dx and how?
I've seen some people emulate that on Windows before, I believe but I have no idea how. And I have no idea if it'll work on Linux/SteamOS.

Can you upload this configuration!? Por favor, the left track pad mapping looks legit
My trackpad does not respond I followed the video and my right stick still works as the default
When i clikc the steam button all it shoes me is the yime and battery life, how do i make it open that window?

Is the emulator Mupen64 via RetroArch?
Does it play the games well?
Any noticeable emulation issue?
Great, I might have to do this
Can I use nintendos new n64 controller on the deck
i cant play Killer instincts Gold properly on my SD. because of this.

Any way to add cheats to the n64 games?
great video, new sub
Ya ill stick to the joystick lol, the trackpad for button behavior imo is worse than directional joystick input.
