Hi mate for that range of lures I would go with a "normal" 150 size baitcaster, or maybe a size 100. The Soloking is an amazing reel but definitely shines throwing 2g and such, you wouldn't have enough line on that reel and the drag is minimal to be honest. If you watch my previous video even a 70cm pike took me more than 5 minutes to land and my drag was tight to the maximum 😅😬

@jamiebeggs9194 no worries mate, happy to help! It really depends on how much you want to spend, I love shimano reels, but the SLX costs possibly around £80 or £90, but you'll throw all the way down from 5g up to whatever you need. The Abu Garcias like the Max X and stuff are work horses and possibly a little cheaper, and still throw small stuff, possibly a bit more over-braked than the shimano. If you want to go AliExpress way the KastKing are great reels for the price too.

@@zombiebitefishing thanks mate i all ready have the max x combo i have ordered 40lb braid for the reel but just want something a little lighter just for fun il probably just get the slx dc reel thanks for the help mate

@jamiebeggs9194 on my 5-18g I use my SLX DC with 70m of 10lb braid and I can cast 5g with it. I can go a bit lower but start to lose distance and a lot of accuracy. Just make sure you don't go a lot over 15 or 17lb braid and you should be good with the smaller stuff 👍

Honestly it feels great out of the box man! I've been casting 1g with it with no issues. The lure got stuck in the vegetation that's why it backlashed badly I don't know if you noticed 😕 😅

@@zombiebitefishing yea I did, just a common mod people do to that reel. Wouldn't have saved you there though! I hit a bridge last week and had the same problem 😭

@yep.fishing yeah I understand why, definitely a but under braked. Nothing would've saved me there 😭😭🤣🤣🤣 yeah especially with thin lines makes it nearly impossible to sort these backlashes out.

Thanks Patrick! That's a chub actually, similar to the creek chub you guys have there, but I believe it gets way bigger! I know they go up to 7 or 8lb at least.

I’ve been stuck for 30 years with my PB largemouth ( I’ve tied it twice in the last 5 years ) and stuck for 4 years with my PB smallies ( tied it 4 times but not 1 Oz over lol )

Hi mate, well, if you want to throw 1 or 2g (lure+jighead) and still be able to feel what's happening with the lure this is ideal, on top of that if you catch a slightly bigger fish it's a fun fight! If you're starting and just have 1 combo, the best thing would be a "do it all combo" like 3 to 15g you'll be able to cast pretty much anything for perch and even some small pike lures! @@zombiebitefishing appreciate the response mate . I got a spinning rod but I feel its too heavy to feel the bites for the fish I'm fishing for so wanted something lighter . I will find a lighter rod and reel and give this a go . I like the sound of it and seems practical for roaming in urban areas . I fish the river near me a lot . Lure is still a thing I'm getting to grips with . I tried a few times but with no luck my wife did catch a perch not taking her with me again 😂 .

@yorkietipper1606 there's good ultra light spinning combos too mate if you want to keep that way! They all do the same and definitely less hassle with the spinning possibly. It takes a while to learn the ropes, to be honest it's a never end learning experience 😅 haha I know the feeling, my wife's PB perch is bigger than mine, was her 2nd time fishing 🤣

@@zombiebitefishing thank you mate appreciate it I saw a big pike the other day but didn't have my lures with me it was feeding too as it took a moorhen down was crazy to see . I started float fishing last year and still love that but want to branch out and learn more . Sounds like my experience she only came with me for moral support then the 2nd day she bought a child's rod and caught a 2lb 6oz perch on a single maggot and size 18 hook 😂 . I don't think I will ever beat it . Really enjoy your content and the love for fishing . Ignore all the negative comments you get too . Not all of us think you abuse fish 👍

@yorkietipper1606 lure fishing is so much fun mate, I'm quite biased, but the fact that you need to trick a fish to bite with the right piece of plastic is quite challenging, plus you can move around quite a lot and try a lot more different areas! That's crazy, I've just seen something similar once. Haha I know, I'm still trying to beat her PB, that's a big goal of mine 🤣🤣 Thanks a lot mate, that doesn't bother me, some people just don't have anything more exciting to do I think 😅 but thanks a lot buddy and keep us updated with your lure fishing journey!

@@zombiebitefishing i wonder have do they get hook shy of the big lures and baits again, ive seen monsters got on tiny eel deadbaits too mate, maybe something more to those microlures, i know this time of year when my seatrout get picky at the beach wee tiny 3g and under microspoons soon pick out a fish, great work as always mate 👍👍🎣

@zombiebitefishing me and Ben had action on the hot spot....few wasps, lost a 30cm plus fish, fumbling with the net, Ben lost a fat jack that looked over 6 maybe 7lbs....then he caught another Jack on hot-spot (over the fench 😉) then he caught a chunky wasp

Commented how these beginners shouldn't be on 'his' fishery. I've been fishing 25+ yrs and he is just a holiday park warden 🤣
