2022 FOX Factory FLOAT X 50 & 125 hour damper Service guide for Beginners. Easier than you think 👍
Просмотров 924День назад
In this video, we will go through the full service of a FOX factory series float X rear shock. It goes over the 50-hour service, fox recommend 125-hour damper service (personally, I think this shock can make it closer to 200 hours for many people). It also shows how to service the high speed compression HSC, low-speed compression LSC, and rebound knob. This is a very easy shock to service, and ...
BSA Threaded Bottom Bracket Shell Service & Install guide for beginners. The ANYONE can service BB
Просмотров 75514 дней назад
In this video I go over preparing a BSA Threaded Bottom bracket (BB) shell, as well as installing the bottom bracket. I'm a big fan of threaded bottom brackets for mountain bikes. I fundamentally believe Threaded Bottom brackets are the best solution for the masses, not that they are without flaws. But in just about every case, flaws can be worked out easily by anyone, or at a minimum, they can...

Attention: Near the end of the video, when installing the nuts back onto the lower legs, I mentioned 6nm for both nuts. Hi Zoub, looking for your thoughts please, once I've set my ifp and bled the damper do you think its okay to bleed tiny amounts of oil out the top grub screw to achieve full travel in the dyno/bike frame (I'm poor) then topping up the ifp air pressure as it feels like it hydro locks before hitting the bump stop oring keep in mind I'm testing the travel without the air can on?

    Great video. I didn't think is so complicated inside. But I have a small question: is there any (undocumented) way to make the travel shorter? I'd like to have 10cm instead of 15cm, and the best option would be to make it shorter by 5cm when released.

    I have that exact shock on my bike so very greatful for this. Definitely saving this video because my shock(and fork) also need some TLC. I have one thing to say about that shock though that bothered me in the beginning simply because I did not know, and that goes for how you are supposed to read the clicks(or lack there of on the dials) The rebound dial has very defined clicks which is all well and good. However, for some reason Fox decided to add 1 extra click before fully close and 2 extra clicks after fully open. The clicks are as defined as all the others so it's no half clicks or anything like that, which makes me pretty frustrated how that passed quality control. Then you have to know that the number 2 on the dial is 0 and 12 is 10. Then we move over to the compression dial which have no defined clicks and where the number 0 is 0(fully close) and 10 is 10(Fully open). Both dials should work exactly the same in my mind to remove confusion simply because this is not exactly information you can find in a manual. For all I know they have this nonsense on other shocks as well which wouldn't surprise me.

    The part I don’t enjoying doing is removing the post from the bike for internally routed frames. I always end up scratching the housing because of burrs inside the frame. If only more frame makers use guides for internal routing kinda like a conduit inside the frame then problem would be solved.

    love your channel man! very informative! when you're doing the lower service, why not just blast the lowers with water and clean it that way? also when the fork comes off the bike, can I just blast it with water to get all the mud and dirt off?

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 7 дней назад

      Thanks for the comment. Unless you are able to contain the water and properly dispose of it, then I wouldn't recommend using water to clean the inside of the forks. Oil will mix with water and the water has to go somewhere, either down a drain, or in the ground. Paper towels and alcohol will work just as well, and at least the paper towels will end up in a land fill. As for the exterior, absolutely, you can use a sprayer on them. On really muddy days, I go to the car wash to wash my bikes. Just don't point the spray gun towards any seals, wipers, bearings, etc. always spray from the opposite side 👍

    Is this rear shock more robust then a fox float dps performance?

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 7 дней назад

      Too many variables on that one. It really depends on the frame design, if the tune in the shock is compatible with the frame design, etc. This is something you never hear RUclips "reviewers" mention. I do know this. BOTH are great shocks, but the deluxe is much easier to service, which imo, is the most important these days for the masses. If two similar class shocks are properly setup for a given frame, the chance is slim that the vast majority of people will notice a difference between them. But, I'd be willing to bet that just about everyone will feel the difference between a shock (or fork) that is regularly maintained and one that isn't. Also, if you decide to get a deluxe to compare to a dps on your frame, make sure the tune is similar to what the frame came with. Example, if the frame has a progressive design and came with a shock that has a linear tune, don't replace it with a shock that has a digressive tune. Details like this make all the difference.

    Hi there again - so i did the entire service, including replacing the known leaky seal in the 2.1 damper that sram says you cant do (ruclips.net/video/T7-ab7KQqec/видео.html). Seems I have 2 issues; there is a loud sucking sound on rebound when riding (which i had before i opened it) and it seems now to get 30% sag i need to run much lower pressure then suggested (70 vs. 83). It does have a 170 air spring in it but i did account for it. any thoughts? :) thanks !

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 7 дней назад

      Yup, The charger compression seals are replaceable, but it's a PITA to replace. It really was a bad design decision by rockshox. Rule of thumb is, If you're hearing squish sounds from the damper, then chances are very high that it needs a bleed. If you hear sucking sound from the air side, depending on how loud and long the sounds is, then that is most likely air transferring from the negative and positive chamber. With 170mm air spring, there will be a LOT more moving back and forth than let's say a 130mm spring, so it will sound different. Did you move from a shorter air spring to a longer one? If so, then less air will be needed in the system for similar results.

    • @robertnunezsf
      @robertnunezsf 7 дней назад

      @@zoubtube its really hard to determine which side- ill try though; so if it is the air side, would that be normal or does it indicate air going past the piston seal? I wouldnt think so since i just did it. it was a 160 so just added 10. Just realized above i was looking for 30% when should be 20%. Ill look again...

    Hi and thanks for the impressive video. At the 23 minute mark you use the paper towel to absorb oil coming from the damper side. Wish I had known this to keep things tidy. Also considering that oil loss from the damper side I'm wondering if I have to service the damper side or at least remove to replace the lost fluid.

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 7 дней назад

      I feel you myman. I learned that lesson the hard way years ago. All the remain oil absorbed into the carpet I left it on. The oil than comes out is residual from the lower legs. when you assemble the fork you will end up filling the lower legs with oil before closing them up. No need to worry about it 👍

    Best video that I've seen for this process. Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown of tools and steps. My rebuild worked out great, until I decided to replace my worn brake pads with new ones while I was at it. The new pads rubbed the rotor, so I had to spread the pistons all the way out and then the brakes wouldn't grab at all! Luckily I still had enough room with the contact adjustment to get the brakes working again. I really didn't want to do the job all over again.

Three of us had our frames warrantied, with one of the guys having it warrantied twice, all due to the bottom bracket. Trek was absolutely AMAZING at handling it. HUGE props to them. But still, out of 5 people, it cost them 4 extra frames. Trek and specialized are the dominant players in my area. I've worked on, or known, MANY people with pressfit BB issues with these two brands, which is to be expected considering how dominant they are around here. Scale is the issue. These two companies probably produce a few million bikes (of all types) a year globally. The cost savings moving from threaded to pressfit at this scale are huge. But manufacturing consistency for press fit as this scale is much harder to maintain than threaded. And as I mentioned in the video, anyone can fix a threaded BB if something is wrong. Pressfit needs more experience to do so.

    So I just bought a second hand grand canyon SLX 9.9 and the brakes were a bit too soft and needed work. So I found a video about what settings for the brakes etc. Free stroke al the way in and lever the furthest away from the handelbar. Yeah that didn't do a great job. Thanks for making the vid! I understand it a lot better now.

      This comment (plus a few others) slipped through the cracks, so apologies for the late response. Very glad to hear it worked out for you. Bleeding with the free stroke fully out offers more viable options for brake feel imo. I like the options of hard and a bit harder. if you bleed in then the options are hard and a bit softer. I've never heard anyone complain that their brake are to hard. only the opposite. thanks for the comment

    I did not want pressfit, but as I bought a bike right after Covid I did not have a choice. Either pressfit bottom bracket or lots of other things I'd had to spend time and money to swop out. The higher end brands tend to opt for pressfit unfortunately.

      Not anymore though thank god, brands started to move back to threaded during covid. Even specialized did it.

      As I mentioned in the video, when press fit is done right, it will work just fine. It's when there is a manufacturing issue that it can require some significant experience to solve with pressfit, whereas with threaded, anyone can solve it. There are HUGE manufacturing cost savings for frame makers to move from threaded to press fit. Specialized and trek alone probably make a few million bikes a year globally. Even if it's a dollar savings per bike, it's big money at scale. So I get the move. BUT, many in the industry are now moving back to threaded for mountain bikes. And I wouldn't be surprised if it continued. As always, time will tell. Ultimately, if you have a press fit, and it works without issues, then I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are high that it will keep working without issues. Just make sure to go out there and enjoy it! 👍

    Great stuff - I'm watching this whole series as I do want to build up a bike some day. Thanks! Got a good rule of thumb for when to use grease vs anti-seize?

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 15 дней назад

      I'm glad to hear the videos are helpful for you, and thank you for taking your time to watch them. A good rule of thumb is, in a high-pressure/high torque static application, especially with non-matching metals, you want to use anti-seize. In a low-contact/pressure moving parts application, grease is best. Hope this helps and let me know if there are any other questions
