I wonder if you put a smaller piece of urethane in the center under the larger piece if you'd get the center. I think I'll give it a go with a similar design.

I copied everything and made my own, only problem I found is that the 1” shaft won’t go through a 1” pillow block or a 1” grinding wheel !! I took the shaft to a machine shop, and had them reduce the 1” down by 1/32”. They also drilled and tapped one end for a 9/16 bolt and welded a round piece of 1/8 metal onto the opposite end, for $50. Altogether I have around $300 (without wheels) works great !!

Do you think a split phase motor is best ? I'm wondering if I can use a air conditioner motor that is 1/2 hp , 1725/1140 rpm. Start it on low, and switch to 1725. Just trying to save money. Thanks again

It really looks like something I could sink a lot of interest and creativity into. I’ve been pricing cabbing machines and boy are they expensive. But everything is expensive nowadays.

As far as I know casualty departments use acetone to remove superglue, might be worth trying. When you use the superglue, after cleaning with alcohol, rewet the stone apply superglue to the metal and squeeze together, the alcohol with it’s water content will work the same as the activator. Trying to cut back old copper coins to prepare them for enamel personally. Have made a nylon collet for them and then try to turn the face off in the lathe. The first few worked then the collet failed, too much twist from the lathe tool. Next idea is a large headed nail equivalent and perhaps superglue. UK 2 pence pieces 1.25inch diameter

Ok I am a little confused , how do you stop the grinding wheels Spinning independently to the shaft as there is nothing to lock the wheels on it or are these wheels just a tight fit and stay where they are as surely when you put pressure on them would they not slip?

Great video! I recently bought an 18" home built ancient saw for $250. Actually all that is redeemable is the new motor and the blade. The basin is of rusted sheet metal. I would like to follow the design that you have presented. I like the slanted bottom and the reduced channel for the saw. I can do that I think. I would like to mirror your design for the drive, and the shut off switch. Good luck to me. I need to trim the length of my vice about 7". I'm hoping that I find the right bearing setup for carriage. I'm taking my time and asking other builders. I'm very happy to have found your video. If you have created a list of materials and a blueprint. please let us know.

I would have liked to have been able to see more of what you were doing - maybe mount the camera on the other side? Love the idea of retrieving a mistake. I find that is where many of my most creative pieces orginate from.

You are dry cutting without a mask or a vacuum filter ! Aren’t you worried about silicosis ? It is a horrible way to go.
