1931 Great Lakes Trainer | Virtual Museum Tour - Episode 2 | Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome
My dad had his first airplane ride in a Jenny in 1923 with a barnstormer. When I was learning to fly in 1955, he would tell me stories and stories about flying in a Jenny.
And a r e a l🫣rotary engine 👍🏻
MY QUESTION IS Did the original Curtiss pushers produced before the first world war originally have dual ignition magnetos? Many thanks, Paul Murphy, London, UK.
I get Iron Maiden vibes from this song
Um, where’s the water radiator? I’m not familiar with this configuration. I was under the impression that the D.Va had the radiator mounted in the upper wing to the starboard side of the cockpit. Does this aircraft have a radiator like previous models which was mounted on the port side of the fuselage ( I think)?
Hi, LTCjRet, This replica was built around an original Mercedes. The crankshaft broke and it was repowered with an air cooled Ranger. The original did have a radiator in the upper wing. It is currently under restoration.
@@michaelfisher910 Thanks for the reply Michael. Good luck with the restoration!
My Porterfield is placarded "Solo Front Seat Only", which is what I do, never tried to fly it solo from the rear due to that. However I ended up inverted when taxying in 2013 due to a gusty tailwind and a full fuel tank, necessitating a rebuild and new engine. So I now ballast the rear seat just a bit if solo and the wind is brisk or gusty. Helps with the taxying too, which is always problematic due to the light weight, slab sides and big fin. Nice video, Porterfields are fun.
Insane!! Almost gives you the feel of what is was to fly one of those "Flying Razors". Noisy as Hell, like riding a motorcycle with wings. I can't imagine what it must have been like to Dogfight fight in aircraft like Those though! Man those WW1 fighter pilots must had some hair on their balls!:)
This loojs like one of the planes flown in the episode The Blue Max.
World War One's superplane.
So glad I got to go there, it won't last forever. Or will it?
It's the only thing on my bucket list! Or New Zealand!!
Is a 53 year old guy, I cannot even imagine the probability and danger of successful takeoffs and landings. And then, when you factor in that you're going to have to fly around and shoot at people who are shooting at you, I can't imagine these boys with smiles on their faces and scarves wrap around their neck getting a thrill from this.
Thanks 😊 truly amazing
This is so wild! What a treat to be able to share some history. Thank you
What a beauty!
My dream has always been to be a part of the airshows since seeing them as a kid. What are the requirements?
How have I not found this Chanel until now?
WOW!!! Absolutely amazing! I really hope to visit!!!
Beautiful
Just read Flying Fury. McCudden Highly recommended read. These Hun planes are discussed copiously.
First visit around 1965, still remember the original "cast members". Cole Palen, the first Black Baron and creator. Dave Fox, the Regal Eagle and others. RIP Cole and many happy memories.
So this is NOT the "C" model look alike ORA was flying 15 years ago (?) I like the 5 Swabians decoration!
Most kills were in an Albatross but he finished his career in the triplane.
One of the best places to see an old time airshow😊 !!!
WWI was still the "Steam Age" so "Beyond the Gaslight" by Evens reprinted a story about ducted fan aircraft.
Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" published in 1932 where "rocket plane engineers climb out on to aircraft during storms to do repairs" had parallels to how "Sashin Shuho" depicted aviators trained in rolling cages while "Air Wonder Stories" depicted storm bursting rocket powered lifting body dynairship flights across the Pacific to visit Kochang Kims who sided with Japan.
My parents liked such a film and course it's British editor said it best:" I can not let my daughter associate with an American since he is probably from the wild west lurking with a weapon'. Such an Editor had the right idea of how surface navies and ground troops are useless.
A ground war is suicide
Henry Ford would be appalled a what became of Detroit.
My parents were great fans of Rhinebeck and often were ossified in such an age since my dad was NASA engineer whose professor was Dr. Robert Oppenheimer during the space race with Soviet Russia while my mother worked in epidemiology of microbiology viruses to have also personally befriended the Queen of Thailand when Viet Cong Kymer Rogue menaced Indochina.
"Wonder Woman" like most Hollywood productions gives wrong impression since first aerial battle between planes was between Japanese controlled Pyongyang and German colony of Shandong Peninsula.
Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" did open cockpit the best while 1930s adventure serials could only approximate.
Charles Lindberg noticed double standard of hypocrisy of Roosevelt's incendiary flamethrowers versus Hitler's Zyklon B delousing chambers.
Charles Lindberg noticed double standard hypocrisy of how Roosevelt's racism of Incendiary Flamethrowers against East Asians was praised while Hitler' Antisemitism of Zyklon B Delousing Gas Chambers of antisemitism against Middle Easterners was condemned.
Eurocentric bias so why can't they make a film about an East Asian family in Seattle of how they deal with racism if Lee Iacocca was elected?
Did this plane have A40 when new?
Oh my! I never realized how much the upper wing could block the pilot view. Must of been nerve wracking on a air to air combat 😮
At first I thought “why are all the approaches slipps?” Then I imagined a non-slipped one.
It's really cool to see the videos of thesereplicas flying.
To soar above the treetops, taking in all the scenery, must be exhilarating.
Timing is key
Rhinebeck? Hast that something to do with the rhineland-palatinate of Germany?
That’s a beautiful aircraft
l like the cars from that era.
It looks almost comically oversized lol. Even the steering wheel.
That's the way her body grew.
@@scottarnold6528 what?
You would be a good voice actor for animated shows
A good piece of history... even if that history was bad!
More like that History was Falsified by the winner.
@scottarnold6528 German WW2 history was falsified? I mean, sure, I'm sure a part of it was falsified... alot of everything is falsified even today. But of course, not the entire thing. The events that happened during WW2 were pure evil and there's no changing that.
Please give Anton “Anthony” Fokker the credit. He had a synchronized mechanism that allowed the gun to shoot through the propeller arc without hitting the prop. It was first used on the Eindecker in 1915 / 1916.
Beautiful plane I should go down there a fly a bit when I’m older
Neat
