    Just the fact that it has an original Mercedes D3 engine, the same engine an ORIGINAL Fokker D7 would have had, is dedication to getting as close to an original D7 a replica can get!

    As a kid I took flying lessons at the aerodrome. I remember touching some of the old airplanes.
    Unlike the other planes that were more extensively wire braced, the DVII felt like a real airplane to me.

    Such beautiful footage of Ken Cassen's smoke-trailed loop in the "Seven Sabians" D-VII (at 2:32) and Old Rhinebeck fast buzz job (at 3:32). So nice to see and hear ORA's senior guru Ken say a few words about Cole Palen, too.

    That footage of the loop is great! Love the way the airplane's nose follows and then flies through the smoke. GoPro on the vertical stabilizer, I assume. Awesome :)

    Surprised the roll rate is poor, the loop and hammerhead were awesome! Cool seeing the Spirit of St. Louis in the background, saw you fly it a few years ago, gave me goosebumps. What is the other plane behind you?

      Hi Randall! The other plane is an Arup S-2. It is Ken’s latest passion project.

    I have a question about Fokker on the Dr.I and D. VII and their kin. What is the structure (winglet?) between wheels that houses the axle? On the original vintage planes what are the materials involved? Thanks..

    • @OldRhinebeckAerodrome
      @OldRhinebeckAerodrome  2 года назад +1

      The sub-wings were constructed similarly to the main wings: a wooden frame covered with fabric. Thank you for watching!

      @@OldRhinebeckAerodrome thank you, I had a friend go through his library and found some evidence, in a Wind Sock magizne and another book (that I can't remember) that had a strip-away engineering diagram the was not the same as the one the ones in the more popular/common books. They had it as a metal axle box that had wooden 4 ribs using the axle box as a spar, w/ two end plates (wood), covered with a light plywood. It may had fabric over the only.
      Lots of things may have happened to the planes durring operations. like not having a steamer and form to shape the plywood.

    A correction , the Fokker D.vII was not listed in the Armistice that is a perpetual myth. It was listed with other aircraft in following documents to be turned over to the Allies. I do love ORA. You guys and girl are doing a fantastic job. Great to see Cole's dream continuing better then ever.

    • @adadadatt
      @adadadatt 8 месяцев назад

      No, that is incorrect! The D.VII was absolutely listed in the armistace. You can read the armistace yourself. This is an exact quote "IV. Surrender in good condition by the German armies of the following
      equipment: 5,000 guns (2,500 heavy, 2,500 field), 25,000 machine guns,
      3,000 trench mortars, 1,700 aeroplanes (fighters, bombers-firstly all D. 7's
      and night-bombing machines)"

    the only thing the Allies had that was comparable was the Spad Xlll. I believe the Fokker had better maneuverability but the Spad had more speed. Both are amazing machines when you look at what both sides started the war with and looking how fast and far aviation tech advanced
