Balsa USA Stingray with DLE-20, RC Plane Build N0 27: Covering Fuselage with Monokote
Welcome to my build series of the Balsa USA Stingray RC plane kit. The Stingray 120 is a great trainer and sport rc plane with an 83-inch wingspan and powered by a DLE-20 RC gas rc plane engine. I will be using a Futaba transmitter system with Futaba or Hitec servos and receiver. This plane is designed for .80 to .90 2-stroke glow engines, .90 to 1.20 4-stroke glow engines, and 15cc to 30cc gas engines. I will be using basic techniques of building rc plane balsa kits (or at least the techniques I have learned to build rc planes).
All of these videos will be placed on a playlist.
In this video I cover the fuselage and tail surfaces with Monokote covering film. Similar brands of RC Plane Cov...

RC Plane Crash Repair Part 1
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.День назад
Yikes! Today I went to a new airfield to visit and try out. For simplicity I brought my trusty RPM Barnstormer 25S. Stupidly, I crashed it into the fence along the south side of the runway. I feel quiet dumb. Luckily, the plane is fixable. In this video I explain how I crashed my plane and the dumb reason for it. I also discuss the damaged parts of the plane and how I will approach fixing them....

    I bought a CD drive from a gentleman on Ebay for all the Royal kits plans. I already tile printed the B-25 Mitchel and cut and taped together. Nicely done. Or you can take the file to office depot, max, fedex kinkos, ect. to have full sheets printed. Can even have them enlarged or reduced.

    Awesome work James! I really like the jig made out of PVC tubing, tees and elbows to hold up your airplane. Sometime I find myself needing more room and be able to walk around the model. You inspired me to put something like that together. It’s also right up my alley: as a hamradio operator, I tend to build a lot of antennas using PVC haha! Keep up the excellent work!

    I have a TH Kaos 40 ARF and when it was brand new, I stuck it in the top of a tree to the north of the runway of the club I belong to. it took me two days to get it out and when It came out it hit the truck of someone who helped me get it out. it nocked two huge holes on both sides of the wing. I also destroyed the carb in my brand new OS Max 46 AX, It took me a while to figure out how to fix it. I thought it was the same airplane as the TH Kaos 40 kit that I have and I found out real quick this was not the case. as the wing on the ARF has a longer rib so I just guessed the actual rib profile drew it out and made 6 half ribs. I fit the ribs in the holes and made a new leading edge section them I sheeted both sides top and bottom. you can tell what I did to all but man does this airplane fly! good luck with your rebuild James! Great story, glad it turned out good after the rebuild. I find that in general these planes fly pretty good even if there are imperfections. When we were kids, our planes were taped back together, things were out of alignment or bent, and they still flew. Sorry about the OS engine, I have one that the carb got damaged in a wreck. The replacement card was around $90, but I did it because its such a great engine, runs great now.

    0747 you may know that the use of full strip ailerons is not recommended (on anything that is not a cropduster). 1025 when the model is level, the main lg should be located directly below the wing leading edge. 1113 it is the opposite of smart to put bends in a wire pushrod.! 1302 the height of the tail wheel strut/assembly is excessive. 1330 bends in the pushrod equals WRONG.!!! 1332 top edge of rudder/vert-stab should be Parallel to the air flow..

    My instructor is an old guy and he tells me that one of the things you need to do on a maiden flight is to take it up to altitude and check out the slow flight characteristics. For example, how much or how little throttle is required to maintain level flight? How does it behave in a stall? What kind of glide ratio does it have? Also, he said that if things start to get out of hand, reduce the throttle. Most planes flying full throttle in level flight will tend to be twitchy because of excessive speed. Interesting and exciting flight to watch. Glad you got it back on the ground OK.

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech 13 дней назад

      Thats great advice, I was flying pretty fast on the maiden. Had some great flights after. Yup, good advice though to get it up high and keep it close , meaning don’t take it way out there. Keep it high and do short laps to keep a good eye on it

      Crashed because I made a mistake, I didn’t have an end stop on my flap setting and I was doing touch and goes, I was climbing out slowly and accidentally set the flaps too low and stalled it… my fault. Its a great kit, nice build and great flyer… I totally recommend it. I crashed because of pilot error..

    I understand this video is several months old but one thing that's really good for putting on the sheeting is using a steam iron. Put the tite bond on all surfaces to glue and let it tack up. Turn the iron on using the steam to stick the parts together. It works great. I do it on all my planes while scratch building. I enjoy watching your videos.
