If I Don't Get 40 MPG in My Integra, I RUN OUT OF FUEL!
Join me as I drive 450 miles across the state of Georgia and back on one tank of fuel! To make it from Alabama to South Carolina and back, I need to manage 34.1 MPG at a bare minimum- but due to my weak fuel pump, I need to aim more toward 37 or 38 MPG. Will I make it home? Tune in to find out!

Here's Why The Toyota Corolla XRS Is The Perfect Car For Enthusiasts on a Budget
Просмотров 119 тыс.Год назад
The Toyota Corolla XRS is an often-forgotten gem from the mid-2000s. Reliable and practical, yet well-handling and high-revving, it's a wonder why it didn't sell more than it did. But, thankfully, the Corolla XRS has depreciated quite a bit since it was made. Here is why the Toyota Corolla XRS is the perfect car for enthusiasts on a budget. 26.1MPG !!!! What the hell kind of a car is that? I drive a 10 year old, 1.6 diesel Ford Mondeo Estate, with a manual transmission, and get 50MPG urban and 60-65MPG rural. It helps if you can drive a manual because you can choose the best power band for the circumstances and use cruise control. I'm very glad that we don't have toll roads (except for the odd bridge), you Yanks are truly crackers (as in crazy, not what you mean by that).

    Also got my CR-Z super cheap, a little under 5k, 100k miles. It was going to be my backup and eventually sons first car....but I love it. He will still get it but I'm getting rid of my daily ( Alfa Romeo Giulia ) for something more practical as I love driving the CR-Z so much. Got a little cold air intake for it and everything. My first car ever was a 1990 Honda Prelude Si ( not the 4WS ), got it for my 16th in 1999. It wasn't well loved by its previous owner and almost got me killed a few times, but I loved that pos. This thing has brought that back, I'm 41 now and handing it down to my son in a few years but here I am out here modding it, improving the meh audio system, detailing it and putting my far nicer car on Autotrader because I don't like it as much. Stupid Hondas.

    I love this car, i love that I can plug in a fire stick into the dashboard and simply turn off the parking brake restriction. Tether to my phone and I have the entirety of streaming platforms for my passengers to watch. It is great on gas and has nice pickup in sport mode. Also it is a thin and tiny car, about half the size of a normal compact 4 door, so it makes for easy and more accessible parking in Chicago. I can park between cars that nobody except a motorcyclist can. 😂

    Went on a road trip the other day and i was trying to do some of the techniques you did and when I turned off the engine while driving, when i turned it back on it had some issues with how smooth it was driving and the cruise control wouldn't work. This was fixed when i pulled over and turned it off and back on again. Any idea why something like that would happen?

    i can easily average 30 miles per gallon in my integra even being the 4 door automatic. 26 if i am in heavy traffic.

  • @Grafyte
    @Grafyte 2 месяца назад

    800 feet elevation change in either direction across over 200 miles is completely trivial. Literally less than 0.1% average grade. As long as you aren't ascending and descending full on mountain passes, you won't be able to notice the difference. Something as silly as wind direction, temperature, or even humidity will make a far more significant difference.

  • @Grafyte

    I wouldn't recommend turning off the engine while coasting in neutral with an automatic. The pump that lubricates your transmission is only driven by the engine, so no engine = no lubrication. Driving without lubrication is obviously not great. If it's an emergency and milliliters matter, by all means. The difference between engine off coasting and idling in neutral is about 1 gallon every 4-5 hours of coasting. I'm not totally sure but I reckon 50 hours worth of driving without lubrication would destroy your transmission, and save you around 11 gallons of gas. Not sure you can replace a transmission with $35. With a manual transmission, the wear goes to either your release bearing for the clutch or the starter, and still, not sure you can replace either of those with $35. On the same vein, I don't like overinflating my tires, because that wears out your shocks and struts faster and it also causes your tires to wear unevenly so you'll be spending more money on that stuff sooner. Again, probably not worth the incredibly tiny fuel savings.

  • @Grafyte
    @Grafyte 2 месяца назад

    Pulse and glide is only more efficient than steady cruising if you shift to neutral and lower your rpm on the glide phase, or better yet, if you have a hybrid, if you shut the engine off entirely and use the battery pack. If you pulse and glide in 4th gear and never shift to neutral, you maintain all the engine drag and it doesn't save you anything. The point of pulse and glide is to reduce engine drag by keeping the engine at a very high load at a moderate rpm and idling with almost no drag when you have too much speed.

    I 100% believe you! I once did this same exact type test with some friends on a beach trip in my worn out 1997 Ford Taurus, and we got 37 MPG !!! Over inflated tires, no a/c, and extra thin synthetic oil... It totally surprised me what my old car achieved compared to its normal 24 mpg average... And that was with four full-grown 21ish year old guys in the car. 😂
