What’s at the Heart of Amazon’s 7$ Soldering Iron
This was the cheapest 60-watt soldering iron I could find on Amazon. It was 7$. Was I expecting 60 watts, not really. At 7$ I wasn’t expecting it to melt solder. But it does. So I’m taking a look inside the iron. Examining its components and function. And ponder how a functioning soldering iron made halfway around the world gets to my doorstep for 7$.

Under $20 Soldering Irons - Are Any Of Them Usable

I’m testing some very cheap soldering irons from Amazon. The criteria were: listed as 60 watts or better and less than 20 dollars. And this list wasn’t even all of them. And I did learn from this that the wattage listed for the iron doesn't convey the heat it can produce at the iron tip. nice
There are few different version of it, some are junk but some can be used for years. 2-4€ from AE are usually made with junk components (this amazone one is probably that category) and last for a few hours of use, 5-6€ give you decent one that can last for years and for around 10 you get much better plastic, grip, silicone cable, brand name thyristor... You want something better for workbench but people who rarely need soldering iron will be just fine with these.
I thought i was smart in cutting the legs off the joystick module with some craft snips before desoldering the leftover bit of pin in each hole. It ended up scratching the surface of the pcb and did reveal some of the traces which isn't ideal. I will try your method of the total destruction of the module before desoldering them out piece by piece next time.
Hello sir. I recently switched my old sticks, because of the drift, and now... with the new ones i`ve bought from Temu, i can`t` get a value beyond 19 % in circularity test. Every time i do the test and after i calibrated it , the value is 19 % on left , and 20 % on the right. How can i calibrate them to be at least 10 %? Thank you.
Cheap or Free labour. Leftover molds. Bottom barrel electronics bought by the tens of millions. Gov shipping subsidies. No QC at all. China is a weird place.
damn i got one because of a video recommending it to desoder a gamepad(ps4) it was very difficult and i ended up pulling a trace because of it.
I have ruined a couple of controllers because of that. Controllers have very delicate pads so ideally you should use hot air. I have used the controllers I damaged for parts and managed to fix dozens of other controllers so it was worth the experience. I can now fix controllers with confidence even though I have crappy tools. Keep on trying.
@@hmello3250 yeah i figured i lacked better tools, i ended up giving it to some guy to fix it, charged me like $15 to fix the trace and change the sticks for my hall sense. I dont fix electronics as often as i used now.
So glad I found this.
funny cause this is actually my main iron for years and it's still going strong
Splurge some on yourself and get a good soldering iron. A good temperature-controlled iron makes life so much better.
Absolutely agree. Just I only do small projects right now.
I have one of them, I got it for heatset inserts in 3D prints and it works grand for that. No way I would be soldering with it.
Me too! Exactly what I use it for!
You found one of the few use cases for the thing. I hate the thought of people trying to use the thing to solder electronics. No need to make life that hard on oneself.
@@metalplasticelectronics354 Agreed! 🙂
Ah yes, it's ALWAYS a blue Playstation controller...
Great video ! I’m teaching myself how to replace and customize parts.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
If you annealed the copper before bending you would get much tighter bends with less effort. I assume you know how to anneal copper, as opposed to steel?
I have never annealed copper, I'll look it up thanks.
Same problem, 3 years old. LG Canada wants $314 for this poorly designed pump. What a waste of money. It will also probably last 3 years. Might just let it burn out, then go buy a new dishwasher from Costco . You can bet it won't be LG.
LG is hurting their brand that is for sure.
Installed GuliKit TMR kit in my DS4 two weeks ago. The sensors and stick assembly are incredible. They are so smooth and responsive. I believe that they are definitely worth the higher price.
Yes, they are.
Can you test the new K Silver TMR sticks for dualsense? There is literally no info online about them yet. They sell for a fraction of the price of the gulikit Tmr option.
I sure will, I've already ordered them.

@@metalplasticelectronics354 Awesome THANK YOU
My left gulikit joystick is drifting has anyone had this problem? Is there a fix or did I get a defective one?
I would recalibrate and if that doesn't help try a hardware reset of the controller.
Shouldnt it be centered straight after install? Why do you have to center it?
It will need to be calibrated, take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/0fK1sapv0YI/видео.htmlsi=OQbVyVvLXjiH-oQ3
Quick question. So once you install the new module do you have to reprogram it? Or should it automatically be centered?

When it comes to modern joysticks I just exploit warranty program to the fullest. Partially because it's one of those rare things when they can't say that you broke it yourself. Riding the same receit for the fourth year, seven devices returned. At this point this is a matter of principle. Sick and tired of buying crap that gets even crappier every year. I remember the times when difference in price used to mean something. Today it seems that no matter how much they charge you it's always some half-assed product that can't even compete with essentially the same thing made ten years ago. Fk this st.
Pretty cool stuff. When you say 100 W, you mean the mosfet is dissipating the 100 watts or operating at a 100 watts?
It dissipates a 100 watts.
just proves that modern technology is going to sh*t. Not just controllers but with EVERYTHING!
How is snapback on this thing
It's very much like an Alps joystick module.
@@metalplasticelectronics354 thank you
What a big pain in the ass
There's this thing called planned obsolescence
PS3 controllers were the best playstation ones ever made
I wanna bet they didn't need to be as precise, so they can just obfuscate any drift issue with a lot of deadzone
actually,a lot of older joysick was better than nowdays crap. dreamcast and saturn joystick was hall effect. ps3 was hall effect. n64 was optical so no drifting but was suffering of plastic decaying inside them. if they was metal they would be as well pretty much unkillable. so yea it is one of the case where they gone cheaper over the years instead of better.
Broke a couple cause I was a kid, but they never broke on their own. It’s planned obsolescence. I’ve bought many controllers as an adult mainly due to stick drift.
great controllers but i still hated those sticks.
That's what the lock is?? Lol thanks
Does this apply to the controller or the software?
It updates the software in the controller. The software in the non-volatile memory of the controller.
@@metalplasticelectronics354 thank you, I tried it and it did change circularity at all 😔any tips ?
What is the circularity running?
@@metalplasticelectronics354 22.1% 🥶
I, like many others who have commented here appreciate the knowledge you share. You are also gifted with a voice conducive to teaching videos. Thank you.

What is the solder head called? That works so easy
The only soldering iron used in this video is the Hakko FX-951.
that remember me of my ps2 controller, the left analog head was almost sawed off from the stick from so much spinning it on god of war games but it was still centering pretty well, while my 3 months old controller i bought for pc had it'sright stick totaly loose with no centering at all, was impossible to play any shooting game on it
People who throw away their PlayStation 5 controllers because of stick drift are hilarious. Buy a 5 or $8 pack of joysticks and your controller will almost never break
I changed my joystick with the tmr , it feel great but the only problem I have is the left joystick sometimes not responding correctly . For example , if I move the joystick all the way up to move faster but my character in game just walk slowly . I have to put more pressure on the joystick to make she run faster .
What does the joystick look like on the Gamepad tester website?
@@metalplasticelectronics354 the black point in the center , avg error is 5.2% . When I move the joystick around I see that it is out of range a little bit at the left bottom corner
That is good circularity. You might try doing a hardware reset on the controller.
I bought a ps3 in russia, th3 controller did get stick drift, maybe its because i left it for too long in the storage?
Could these k silver potentiometers be installed on the stock alps stick?
They are not a good fit, the magnet assemblies are a little loose on the Alps shafts. If you only want to replace the potentiometers take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/v6CAmJTqCJ0/видео.htmlsi=aImhlzBqsQgD9HrT
The old Dualshocks were so good, I wish they kept the analog buttons in the ps4 and beyond
Hi I just subscribed your channel. Good video and good job!! Just curious, for LG dishwasher LDF5545ST (and mine which is LDFN454HT), other than the ABT72989206 "Pump Casing Assembly", any other parts that would be easy to break? Also, based on your video, I suppose that the "drain pump (motor)" part# ABQ75742501 is NOT the right part for LDF5545ST or LDFN454HT, right? Thanks! And BTW, wow, I used to be a loyal LG customers but now I don't think I will buy another LG product again. Shame on LG for such bad design on a simple seal..
I'm not sure what models the pump will fit. LG Parts has a pretty good sight for looking up the parts in their appliances, their prices are too high though. I think the diverter motor is another common problem with the dishwasher. I had to replace that. And I may have to do it again as I just replaced the motor and not the seal. I'll regret doing it fast instead of doing it right. I don't mind too much if a design problem pops up in something. What I do mind is the company not standing behind their product. LG knows they have a problem with the pump and motor. So it should be automatic, call them, give them the serial number and they should give you the part. But it seems they do everything they can to make it difficult. And thanks for the sub.
I call bollocks on this. The DS3 is is the first controller ever to give me drift and false button presses. I have like seven ot these and they all have several different issues.
Joystick Drift was a feature of Playstation 4 and forwards!
this is actually the sixaxis controller ibelieve
i wish ppl knew about these 10 bit 4 pin analog sticks...i wish i could find a way to use these with my drifting dualsense.... they stopped this tech on purpose!!!!!!!!!!! just to charge us over and over for new controllers, some one please filea class action law suit against sony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are plenty of no-drift joystick options for the DualSense, take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/cSOKN1wB31k/видео.htmlsi=tAKg5iNnlDOnFgwQ
If I had a PS4 clone controller and I tried to calibrate it, it wouldn't even connect, right? I heard that on that dualshock-tools page they detected if the control was a clone
That is my understanding, I don't have a clone controller even to try though.
Maybe cheap cartridge type iron test next? t12/15 and whatever type jbc is using
Do you know of any cheap models? I would be interested in taking a look at them.
How do we calibrate this? Still with the DualShock Calibration GUI? I'm just waiting for mine to arrive, so I'm looking to see what I need to do after I fix my DualSense.
Take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/0fK1sapv0YI/видео.htmlsi=P4Z_uNZw8gDJ6wIM
Back when things where design to last. The good old days.
for me, the dualshock 2 and 3 are the best controllers sony has made. The dualshock 4's design is just bad as my agility of using the controller drops massively, also the joysticks feel different in that version. Now i maybe know why.
