How To Play Amulet Titan in 2023 [1000 Subscriber Special]
Bojuka against those haughty Djinns would have been the move
Do you think it's possible to play amulet titan without The One Ring (I know it's possible, just remove it duuuh), but do you think it will still be fun and good to play?
@@matheusBBarni Yes, absolutely! Any grindy card will do a similar job (maybe not as well as the ring, but you have to make concessions!). You could try playing both Explore and Malevolent Rumble, with a copy of Echoing Deeps just in case you mill an important land. Other options include playing some Turntimber Symbiosis, extra Cultivator Colossus, Hydroid Krasis, Tireless Tracker, more TWests, etc. anything to increase threat density.
@@redfacedmenace hmm thanks! I'm asking this because I want to play this deck, but TOR set is like half of the deck value here in Brazil
I prefer hanweir, valakut, mirrorpool, and kessig wolf run. You go for kessig if you dont have a dryad, but if you have a dryad you copy the haste valakut with vesuva and valakut kill your opponent. The slayers version is, in my opinion, worse when you draw any of the 4, sunhome, slayers, vesuva, or boros garrison.
Oh for sure! I highly suggest you try out Oran Rief in place of Kessig, however. You may find yourself impressed, especially the more you look into its lines!
@redfacedmenace thanks for the advice and the reply. Before watching your video, I wasn't so sure about Oren Rief, but it sounds really good after hearing you explain it. Your videos have helped shape my deck into the list I play now, and I appreciate the work you do with the deck and on RUclips.
@danielbruce4660 Very glad to hear it helped! Thanks for watching. :)
Nantuko on Titan for a Splinter Twin kill? Holy cow is this going to be what finally gets Titan banned?
Doubtful! It’s reliant on 1) resolving a Titan with Amulet in play, 2) also having a Pact/Nantuko in hand, and 3) opp having no removal for your Titan. In fact, I’ve been wondering if Nantuko falls into the category of being win-more. At the very least, I find it a much easier backup pact target to win with when Titan gets extracted, when compared to Colossus!
Another cool line with mirrorpool/hanweir is that if you play echoing deeps, you can hust make a free third titan that doesn't hurt the original combo's goal.
True!
I learned something watching this video, and I play this deck 24/7! Great work. While it is true that you don't need vesuva for the kill with hanweir, it should also be mentioned that if you use Vesuva in the double amulet line, you can deal 20 damage AND channel Otawara. Feel free to explain that line in the replies!
Yes! I did mention it while covering the grand list of Hanweir advantages, but I sortof realized in that moment that it really deserved its own lines section. Oh well. T_T I’ll leave it as a challenge to the viewers to figure out what cool things you can do with 2 Amulets and Vesuva in deck to copy Oran instead of doing the whole 2 Mycosynth thing! Out of curiosity, what was the thing that you learned?
There's one major upside of Hanweir I'm surprised you didn't mention. The ability to go Hanweir + Valakut to haste a single titan is huge to set up for Valakut kills later, if you can't go for the 1 amulet kill lines. You put it right at the end but I feel it should have been stated earlier and perhaps more than once.
True! I sortof overlooked it while writing because in my mind it’s “obvious” that Dryad pairs better with Hanweir, but more unfamiliar players may not recognize that it’s an important detail. Getting Valakut is pretty much the default thing to do when hasting, so Hanweir being better with Dryad/Valakut seems like an innate fact. Thanks for pointing out that detail to those who didn’t realize it and for helping to make it more clear to those who might not have caught that detail!
@@redfacedmenace I really loved the video, learned a lot of neat lines like the Ottawara line and the single amulet win. I've been on Littjara/Kessig and you sold me on Oran/Mirror pool. For some reason I never realized mirror pool was instant speed, makes a lot of sense. Hadn't considered fetching mycosynth so I thought Oran Rief required Vesuva to win.
Like I said, I was the exact same way about the whole topic! I didn’t initially understand why Otawara was in the deck, I didn’t know the double Mycosynth option for the kill until GR Donkin explained it to me (oops should’ve credited him on the slide :/), I didn’t know the tech lines with Vestige, etc. It was a surprisingly deep and complex topic that I just KNEW deserved its own dedicated deep-dive. We all learned something from this. :)
Some malevolent rumble lists have started playing a single copy of echoing deeps, which can copy a sacrificed mirrorpool. So that compensates for some of the risk.
True! That is also an option! But then you have to commit a slot to the Echoing Deeps. It makes sense in a rumble build for sure. Some people are playing Deeps just for its own right as well.
@@redfacedmenace what would you expect Titan to play if Ring becomes banned? Been looking to buy into the deck for a while, and thought it a relevant question
@marinusbrask8186 well firstly I currently don’t foresee ring getting banned anytime soon. I think it’s here to stay in Modern. However, if we were forced to play without ring, I think I’d look to maximizing copies of Explore or perhaps even going for the Rumble/Shifting Woodlands/Echoing Deeps build. I imagine a Nantuko would be a key piece for the Ring-less builds, turning Dryad (and Grazer sometimes, depending on the opp’s deck) into game-winning threats. I don’t know if that answers your question, but I hope it gives you some insight. Ultimately, Ring would need to be replaced with more threats and value-oriented ramp.
yea strictly just going off the presentation, the Hanweir sounds overall better. the 2 things that feel notable for Slayers to me is the "removal doesnt cost you the combo" and the "16 damage line" as those seem at least pretty strong strength on paper. (maybe i undervalue the vigilance). That said as a fan of card games, just hearing "Hanweir makes you not brick on Boro Grarrison" already sounds really good, and just the list of random things you can do from it makes it sound way too flexible not to at least lean in that direction.
100%. Another huge one is being able to use Vesuva to copy something in the Hanweir lines. It may not seem too important on paper, but it comes up much more often than you might expect! I swear I’m slowly turning you into an Amulet player, Ruah. ;P
I'm already looking forward to your video about echoing 😉
The Deeps lines are a little obtuse atm. I’m continue to look into it, tho.
Excellent presentation! The level of thought that has gone into this has me inspired to try to ponder my favorite strategies more deeply!
Digging this deep into things seems to be an Amulet Titan classic. :P
Great content!!! Continue to shed light on Titan! A lot of great minds in the Titan community!! 👑
Awesome video! Appreciate the effort in making good Amulet content.
Thanks! I decided to program all the card movements into PowerPoint this time
@@redfacedmenace it looked really great! Helped with understanding the lines a lot!
what's your complete decklist ?
I have it posted here in this Twitter post: x.com/facedmenace/status/1811528179711881326?s=46
@@redfacedmenace thank you so much!!!
@@redfacedmenace why only 1 TWest but 3 copies of Mycosynth and 2 Crumbling Vestiges? I feel like one of those should be cut for the 2nd TWest. I'm used to having 2 TWest in my deck but is it the case that you end up not missing the 2nd TWest?
@@joemcguire4979 The Woodlands in the sideboard effectively function as a "2nd Twest" against the decks you want it for (unless their removal exiles like solitude). Being able to copy titan after it is removed lets you find woodlands on its original ETB instead of Twest or hasting it. Then you can swing with the woodlands the next turn to find more off the attack trigger (you don't get an ETB trigger from the copy). You can even bestow an animated woodlands with nantuko to make copies, the land really shines in grindy matchups.
@joemcguire4979 the 2nd TWest is replaced by the Mirrorpool, which is necessary for the Hanweir kill lines. There definitely can be spots where the 2nd TWest would be nice, such as having to Map for TWest to have a threat to play or naturally drawing and transmuting TWest, both leading to not having a backup Titan. But in the combo turns you just have to make sure you’re aware you only have 1 TWest in deck when planning out lines. Generally, Mirrorpool is a sufficient replacement in those scenarios. The 2nd Crumbling is replacing a bounceland for an extra green source and a redundant copy for the Crumbling haste lines (honestly it can probably be cut for another bounceland if desired). The 3 Mycosynth is because there’s no room for the 4th. You need to be able to search up 2 copies for the Hanweir kill line with Oran Rief if you don’t have access to Vesuva, but it’s mostly just because Mycosynth is a great land to have access to. We’d probably play 4 if we easily could.
ready for RCQ season!!
I’m sure you’ll kill it. :)
Omg I literally played Heinwar last night and wished I had Stronghold! But, I didn't have mirror hold and Oran reif! Fantastic timing! Love it!
Oh for sure. Playing Hanweir without Mirrorpool and Oran/Kessig must have felt underwhelming. You simply have to have access to the right tools and the knowledge of how to use them!
great video! super helpful. I'm running amulet with no rings (can't afford them lol) currently and I'm on a weird mix of the two packages because I haven't been able to find a hanweir locally. I really didn't like having sunhome in the deck, wanted to try oran rief for value anyway with nantuko lines, and learning that I wouldn't lose the double amulet kill (mirrorpool+bounceland->copy titan->stronghold+garrison->haste both->oran-rief+anything->activate twice for 20) convinced me. after watching this video I'm just gonna order a hanweir though, it makes the lines so much cleaner.
Yeah, the lines involving Hanweir are so elegant! No more worrying about Vesuva, drawing Hanweir, etc.
Super fun deck, maybe cut Disciple for Asuza or something
Agreed, Disciple didn't seem all that relevant did it?
@@redfacedmenace yeah Asuza also gives you a new target to go off with nantuko
@LBKayyyy Azusa is legendary, sadly
@redfacedmenace oh yeah forgot that part 🤪
Don't call Engineered Explosives a Zero-cost card! It is NOT! It cannot be searched for by Saga! It costs X, but has a MANA VALUE of zero while anywhere but the stack. That's a key distinction, allowing it to be found with TWest but not with Saga!
Yes! That's very true, thanks for pointing that out.
Personally I preferred the Hanweir/Kessig/Mirror lines as it was not reliant on Vesuva. Being able to Vesuva those lands if they were used to resolve the initial titan felt very powerful. The new combo needs Hanweir/Oran/Mirror/Vesuva, 4 cards in deck instead of 2 with Vesuva as insurance. Am I missing some sort of advantage? Is it just than Oran is green and Kessig is not?
Yes, the advantage of not relying on Vesuva is HUGE!
@@redfacedmenace So then why is Oran-Rief becoming more prevalent than Kessig? :o
Oh I see what you’re saying. Some lists have adopted a 2nd Vesuva over the 2nd Valakut to combat what you mentioned. As for why Oran in particular tends to be preferred, it’s a combination of the facts that 1) it’s green, 2) it grows Titans out of Unholy Heat range, 3) gets lasting value instead of just being a mana sink like Kessig, and 4) can pump grazers into lethal in the Nantuko combo (I don’t see this as a realistic advantage, myself, but it’s technically true). There may be other benefits that I’m not aware of, as I’m hardly an expert here. In my opinion, the main upside of Kessig is theoretically making any creature a threat you can win with, but in practice, if you’re relying on Kessig to try to win, you’re in pretty bad shape regardless.
@@redfacedmenace Pumping titan out of unholy heat/Asmo range is an interesting thought. I'm actually currently on Hanweir/Littjara/Kessig, so Littjara pumps the one titan, but not both. I'll probably be switching to mirror pool soon, and then will consider Oran Rief or Kessig.
For what it’s worth, the double Amulet line doesn’t necessarily require Vesuva in deck to kill. Attacking with 2 titans allows you to search any land and Mycosynth Gardens to copy into a 3rd amulet, then 2nd Titan trigger gets Oran and another land to make both Titans into 9/9s. It’s 18 damage, which isn’t quite 20, but oftentimes that will be enough.
Castle Garenbrig makes The One Ring a little worse. Think of what cards you could add if you cut The One Ring from the deck.
boarding out Rings for Defense Grids is fine.
What would you add to the deck instead of Ring? It's hard for me to imagine anything being significantly better in that slot, but I'm open to the idea.
Amulet's core is so strong that even being around 10+ years still competes in Modern with 1-2 potential additions in some sets. I love this deck, ordering my foil Nantukos already :) Thanks for the great content man! #AmuLIT
#NoBadMatchups
Bro’s voice hasn’t dropped yet 😂
I'll drop kick you into next Tuesday :P
Nice video, would have watch more games. Hope You'll do more Titan stuff in Timeless in the future. Thanks
It’s definitely something I could do
At 16:44 I think you could have went Amulet -> SGC bounce Boseiju -> tap for 6 Mana (3 Amulet triggers so 3U3G) -> Pact -> Titan -> Hanweir + GTurf bouncing GTurf -> 6 Mana (3R3G) -> Haste the Titan (2R3G Floating) -> Pact -> Dryad (floating 1R1G) -> Bestow on the Titan -> extra land drop GTurf Float 6 again -> Copy Titan off landfall trigger -> Every Titan Copy get a Bounce land and non-bounce land which should be +4 Mana and +1 Land. At that point you had 7 more bounce lands in the deck and an arbitrary amount of floated RBGU mana so you can get both copies of Valakut and/or Transmute the TWest into another pact for another Nantuko to bestow on the Dryad. You then still have a hasty Titan, so if you leave one bounce land in the deck you can get it during combat off Titan attack to trigger landfall and make a copy of Dryad during combat. Then post combat you use the Dryad copy's extra land drop to play a bounce land which is infinite mana/damage with the two Valakuts. I may have my math wrong, and you may not even need to copy the Dryad, but I think there was a couple ways to kill him on T4 while he was tapped out.
Titan was Necromentia'd. If we had access to Titan there, there's probably a million ways to win. :)
@@redfacedmenace Ah, for some reason in my head I thought that happened game 1 lol. I was watching the vid in chunks in between work calls. Sick idea for the deck though. So many ways to go crazy with Nantuko. Completely missed that card during spoiler season. Seems like it could work with Golos too. Maybe in that Timeless Amulet Deck Spike was running for a while. Also interacts favorably with Springbloom Druid.
23:18 I’m with you. 4C is a nightmare match up for me. Great league!! Flare not looking great
I mean Flare worked exactly as promised/expected, but it just is worse than other options we already have available. It's a great card, but not a great fit. Also, I love how I explained how I can never win a match against 4c, then proceeded to realize I should be sandbagging my Amulets against them, then promptly won the match as a result. xD
Haven't watched the video yet, but the Tim and Eric free real estate in the thumbnail was amazing hahaha. Well played.
What can I say? You know, I'm something of a "memer" myself
Ban nantuko within 6 months because of this and nadu.
You think Nantuko is banworthy? Honestly, if anything is getting banned, I'd say it's either Nadu or (more likely) Shuko.
@redfacedmenace Nantuko enables the same combo in different strategies. Both amulet and Nadu can function without it, but using it just results in an infinite combo every time. So rather than destroy an entire deck by banning something like Nadu, you can just remove the combo piece.
@@mwilke07 I don't yet feel that the Nantuko combo is problematic in Amulet Titan, and certainly the most broken part of the Nadu deck is Shuko "drawing" 2 cards per creature for free, right? So I'd leave Nadu and Nantuko alone and take out Shuko. There's nothing inherently wrong with infinite combos existing, it just depends on how prevalent they are.
Good thing Splinter Twin is banned
FOR REAL! Thank goodness someone was finally brave enough to say it! (Please bring back Splinter Twin, I miss it)
24:39 love that expression and just seeing that win. It seems the new cards really make the deck kind of silly with infinites and stuff. Not sure who at Wizards loves titan so much but its nice to see titan evolve a bit.
Extra silliness is good for the soul :)
May I know why you were able to pay for the pact on 19:26? There were two lands on the battlefield, each time you copy a new dryad you may play a bounce land or Shifting Woodland, but you still have 3 mana on your next upkeep? Thanks!
In the last iteration you don't pick up bounce land, let's say you take back Boseiju, and you have 3 mana on board and still 1 more land drop from the last dryad
@firer98 explained it perfectly :)
@@firer98 Got it! I somehow missed a land drop. Thank you so much
Matches were so cool to watch ! six and nantuko seems like great additions, as was to be expected
For sure :)
Can't believe you got aspiring spike to concede both games
What can I say? Spike doesn’t like to waste time. :)
I just don't see how this deck won't catch a ban in the next 6 months... That being said, everytime I watch this deck I am amazed at the sheer options the deck has. Nice league! Unlucky vs Zoo
I wouldn't be surprised if Amulet saw a ban eventually, but I would be surprised if the card that pushes it over the edge is Nantuko. xD
Woahhhhh… I think you found something big!! Nantuko should be a 1 of tho?? 😮
Nooo Auto yields the amulet?!? Rookie mistake 😂
What can I say, I live dangerously and yield to having a single amulet in play! It almost always comes back to bite me, but I'm too lazy to click through each trigger when there's only one in play. 90% of the time it's fine, I usually remember to clear autoyields if I play a 2nd Amulet. However, in this case I had autoyielded while planning to combo out with Nantuko/Grazer with the yield on to save time. I didn't expect opp to have Leyline Binding and use it on the grazer combo, of all things. I wasn't even planning on copying Amulet with Mycosynth until they tapped out of Leyline binding. But then I forgot I had yielded to Amulet for the twin combo. xD Very corner case scenario. I think I had lost anyways though, since I actually needed to keep Simic in hand to play for blue mana to transmute for Dryad if the Grazer combo didn't work. Again, I wasn't expecting my opponent to stop the Grazer combo at all -- i guess I didn't realize it would be so threatening to them. xD Edit: OH and of course I didn't realize we wouldn't have another land drop remaining. Again, unfamiliarity with the workings of the twin combo, I didn't realize I had to play the land for turn to kick-start the combo chain!
Before MH3 I moved off of the valakut dryad plan and moved back to the tribe scout all in turn 3 with more azuas and such. Drawback is you have to start cutting mycosnyth because you need green on turn 1 again
Oh wow, that’s really interesting. Did you feel that the deck was better without Dryad/Valakut after making that change?
@@redfacedmenace yeah getting dryad removed with valakut triggers on the stack was pretty annoying all the time tbh. Scout felt very good to be able to put lands into play over multiple turns and instant speed bog was a nice addition along with serjiri steppe. Like you said hopefully untap with scout and get value + flare is ideal situation. Playing more basics might have to be a thing going forward with all of the new moon effects anyways tbh. The Knight, Island merforlk, and the new winter orb all being playable along with all of the current land hate basics seem more viable. I am also playing extra copies of cards that combo with double amulet like Gretchen and 1 copy of world souls rage and mirrorpool. They are going to get the cut for flare I'm pretty sure.

If you give haste to a dryad will all the copies come in with haste? It’s an OTK if they do
I don't think the copies would have haste, since it's not printed onto the card.
Thougts on having a 1os six to give retrace, might be to slow, but idk
I think the same thing, likely too slow. I could see maybe playing it in the sideboard?
If you absolutely HAD to run 4x Explore in the main, what cuts would you make?
It’d have to be the 2 Spelunking, which I might then fit into the sideboard instead
@@redfacedmenace right right, I meant which sideboard cuts would you make
@@WalkThePlanes Probably 1 Endurance and the O Stone
This was a great watch
Thanks :)
I think the shifting woodland is great as a one-of, but i totally agree that i don't think it'll be part of any main Amulet strategy
I'm glad we seem to be on the same page

Can't wait to watch!
Come back and comment how you felt about my opinions on these cards! I want to know!
Definitely disagree with Urza's cave. It can find gravehate at instant speed, store valakut triggers for instant speed (find valakut or a fetch), find a needed bounce, etc. I foresee gravehate being super important post mh3, since there's so many cards that interact with the graveyard in the set. I do agree with your assessment of delirium being a lot harder to enable than most people think it is, but I see that card as more of a sideboard card against grief/control decks, where they actively help us to enable it. I don't see decks running this as needing to play 2 tolaria west moving forward, but I also don't think every list will be running it. I do believe you missed out on Six and Vexing Bauble as sideboard options though. I am excited for both. Bauble will help us against subtlety, solitude, force of vigor, etc. You can also crack it to re-enable pact if needed, although that line turns back on their 0 cost hate. I think six is just a toned down version of the delirium land, allowing us to retrace something the turn it is played, so it really doesn't care about removal as much. You can theoretically "infinitely" retrace rings if you felt like it provided they didn't have removal. I am more excited for it as a mill option, or just against any control deck in general. We got some nice tools against grindy decks out of MH3.
Oh man, that's true. I should've touched on Six and Vexing Bauble for sure. I didn't because I felt that Bauble is most likely a 1-of Saga target (not super interesting to talk about) and that Six was a tad slow for its ability, and would likely not see play because of that. But in hindsight I probably should've at least mentioned them in the video. Oops! Honestly, I definitely could see a world where Six is better in the deck than Woodland. That doesn't mean I expect either to be great tho. :/ As for Urza's Cave I just can't possibly agree. Graveyard hate by T4 isn't good enough, even if you manage to ramp into T3 it's too slow on the draw at least. I just don't see the card making waves. Sideboarding Woodland seems interesting, I'll have to think about that one.

I was hoping you would mention planar genesis, i think it is worth considering if we adjust the mana base
We already have access to Growth Spiral and that card sees no play despite ramping and drawing a card at the same time. Do you feel that planar genesis is substantially better? Is it really worth splashing blue for?
@@redfacedmenace it feels reminiscent of Ouat, i get that it’s harder to cast and also can’t be played for free, but i think it may be worth exploring. Of course im okay with being wrong too
@@brandonbarrett1774 I mean, that's somewhat of a fair comparison in the sense that the hardcast part was definitely playable enough with OuaT (I did get to play it while it was legal, though I didn't have a channel at the time). But I do think the blue pip is a huge drawback. I have doubts that it's playable, but I would also be happy to be wrong. I generally try to think of Amulet as a mono-color deck for the most part.
@@redfacedmenace thank you for your opinion and the content
Great video! Thank you
What can I say, it's what I do!
@24:40 Boros Garrison showing its best side again. I have abandoned it, like God has abandoned us. 🤣 Old school vibes coming up, but these days with Hanweir Battlements are just better. I totally fell in love with Oran-Rief / Kessig Wolf Run as a substitute. A recent trend is to just run one Tolaria, which I am also trying right now. I wonder how this will turn out, I haven't missed the second one so far, it is very slow - probably to slow for modern to justify more than two copies, maybe even to slow to justify one.
I LOVE Tolaria West, but it feels to me that it is a necessary cut the 2nd TWest for Mirrorpool, seeing as both are essentially extra Titan copies, but Mirrorpool enables the combo kill with Hanweir and Oran/Kessig. I would love to have room for 2nd TWest, but with Mirrorpool replacing it, it's not strictly necessary.
The single tolaria i find can leave you without resources if your titans keep getting solitudes, often giving haste in first titan is not the best move unless your hand is stacked with backup threats, plus helps pay for ottawara, plus is great against merfolk's blue magus cause you can get forest relativley quickly. I can manage a single valakut but only one tolaria is not enough in my experience
@@kowabonga1263 In many situations where the single TWest would not be enough, especially against Solitude decks, it's usually better to go for Colossus instead so that you have backup threats in case things don't work. I agree though, it feels bad at times to only play a single TWest for sure. Everything is a tradeoff in the manabase. What you cut for 2nd TWest is equally as important as having access to the 2nd copy!
