HINTS ON HOW TO REMOVE A CAP FROM A NOMA DRESDEN LIGHT COVER CHRISTMAS FIGURAL LIGHT

In this video I try to give you hints on how to remove a cap from a Noma Dresden Christmas light cover. These were most often seized together by corrosion and laquer sealants that were applied. I was hoping your video which is very helpful. Unfortunately, I have a unique need I have been unable solve. I have an old Christmas tree stand that has C6 sockets. They push through the base and have an external threaded nut affixing them to the base. There is one missing. I have searched and cannot find any source to obtain one. If you can point me in the right direction it would be a great help. I have pictures I can share. Any help would be appreciated!

      OK, You and hundreds of other folks have the very same problem!!!!! I do not need a picture of the stand, as I own about 3 or 4 of them (i believe). I have done extensive research and work on this very stand. I am assuming that you are talking about the 1928 Noma cast iron tree stand with the embossed poinsettias and holly leaves going around the base. There was perhaps, 2 other stands, that had that same electrical set up, but those are very elusive, and even an old collector of Antique Christmas like me, does not own on of those. All I will say is that those threaded sockets AND...The nut that screws onto them, MUST HAVE ONLY BEEN MADE FOR THAT STAND!!!!!!!!!! As far as I have found...There is no equivalent!!!!! Or even..... anything close. I have had hardware experts try to find those nuts, and no one has been able to come up with the threading, that is on that piece. I had a person send me their messed up existing strand, from their stand, so that I could try to make a mold of the original socket......which I did.....But finding the nut to go on it, is truly impossible!!!!!! LOL Please know that I am SCREAMING.....But not at you!!! LOL I am a huge collector and helper of folks with their Antique and vintage Christmas lighting, and this piece totally eludes me and everyone else. I did make a replacement strand for the person, that sent me their original cord and sockets, from their stand It works by simply holding newer era sockets into place with pressure. It allows the person to replace all of the old cloth covered cords and electrical with something a bit more modern. If you are interested I will be happy to tell you about it, but I ask that you email me at c6lites@gmail.com and I will send you my phone number and we can talk it thru on the phone. I hate typing long fixes to people.......despite the fact that I have just typed you a novel here!!!! LOL

    So the only bubble lights I can recommend is the Alps ones where they have resin bases

  • @redstonecommander5190
    @redstonecommander5190 2 месяца назад

    These are probably one of the rarest bubble lights mainly because they’re made in Japan and the bases are made of resin so they don’t melt easily so you can run them in extended periods of time

  • @redstonecommander5190
    @redstonecommander5190 2 месяца назад

    However, if you do you wanna find bubble whites with plastic bases, make sure that you get yourself a dimmer outlet timer outlet works too

  • @redstonecommander5190
    @redstonecommander5190 2 месяца назад

    If you don’t wanna have any melting problems at all, for example, if you wanna leave them on all day long without a dimmer, make sure that you find these bubble lights with the filament incased in resin not plastic mainly the Alps versions are the only ones are in case in resin, but there might be some other versions of bubble lights that might have bases that are made in resin

    Is the Christopher Radko bubble base glued like the tube with epoxy? Wasn't sure because it appears it snapped apart relatively easy? I was thinking about getting new Radko C7 bubble lights & switching out the tubes with new oil & shooting star tubes. Saw John Campbell sells them, but when I watched your video I became hesitant if they're so difficult to get the tubes out & you needed your home-made accessories to remove them. Have you any updates or newer techniques to make removing tubes easier? Seems like it wasn't as difficult to take apart the base?

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 6 месяцев назад

      As you see in the video the two halves of the base come apart rather easily as they are not glued together. They just snap together. However, you will need to find a way to retract all of the teeth inward. The newest way I have heard is someone uses a socket, of the correct size to push the base onto, to retract the teeth. I have heard of some folks having the same trouble as me with removing the tubes. It's like they used some form of SUPER, SUPER GLUE or epoxy to put them in. Soaking in hot water doesn't even begin to soften it. A lady on our facebook page just posted that she broke several tubes, trying to get them out.

    • @parapatton
      @parapatton 6 месяцев назад

      Have you tried solvents like naphtha or acetone to soften the super glue?

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, I tried many different things. Paint thinner, denatured Alcohol, rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid and the like. I did not try acetone....which probably would have worked, but I would probably also melted the plastic before softening the glue that was used. One of the items i used ruined the clear plastic ring one one of the white ones. I can't remember what that was though. If you find something, please feel free to share. I'm always up for new things.

    Cannot find any of these Candolier kits today, are they still available? Are the newer bubble light Candoliers as good a the Vintage, which I believe were a better bakelite plastic?

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 6 месяцев назад

      Hi there, I made this video, back when the person that made these kits was selling off all of her stock. They were quickly snatched up and now reside in other folks collections. So they may not pop-up unless one of those folks decide to let them go. Of course the older ones are much better in quality. They are not made out of bakelite, they are just hard plastic. However, the older ones have had many years of use and may often need repairs, like replacing the crumbling original cord, or worse yet, having to replace a brass socket that has gone bad. Removing sockets from those older, original Royal candoliers is super hard as they seem to have been molded (or melted) into the plastic base. Anyway, quality wise, the plastic on the new ones and and old ones are quite comparable, and they came in more colors than the originals. The bad difference is that the newer C6 brass shells used in the newer ones are soft and not as good as the older ones. You may want to join our facebook page and see if anyone there might have one for sale... facebook.com/groups/475901481145293 I hope this helps

      O.K. Thanks. Of all Candoliers ever made in different colors, which colors display Bubble Lights best? Found this 24 year old post from an older man who made candoliers under the "Reproco" brand. He said the molds cost $15,000 & he made them because he liked them so much. Ever seen "Reproco" Candoliers? "AS THE MAKER OF THE NEW STANDS I CAN TELL YOU THE FOLLOWING. THE COLORS OF THE NEW STANDS WERE INTENTIONALLY MADE VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD ONES. THIS WAS DONE TO AVOID CONFUSION. THE NEW COLORS, ROYAL BLUE, FRENCH VANILLA, BLACK ONYX, HALLOWEEN ORANGE, PEPPERMINT, SPEARMINT, LIQUID GOLD, AND CHRISTMAS SPARKLE; LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE COLORS USED BY ROYAL, RED, GREEN, AND MARBELIZED. ALSO, TO CORRECT ONE ITEM I HAVE READ HERE, THE SOCKETS ARE INSERTED FROM THE TOP, NOT THE BOTTOM, AND IF IN ANY DOUBT, ALL THE REPRODUCTIONS ARE MARKED WITH THE "REPROCO" TRADEMARK ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE PLASTIC, AN R INSIDE A TRIANGLE. ALL PRODUCTS WHICH WE MAKE ARE MADE TO HAVE VERY MANY DISTINCTIONS FROM OLDER ITEMS, WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE ANY OF OUR PRODUCTS MISREPRESENTED AS OLD. IF I CAN HELP FURTHER, PLEASE EMAIL ME". @@c6lites

      @@parapatton I like that post you put up. That sounds like The man that owned a Christmas lighting business back in the late 80s and thru the 90s. The business was called The Lion's Den.....He and his partner had many things recast in hard plastic....Including the Bubble light bases. He passed away about 12-15 years ago. I believe his partner ended up with all of the bubble light candolier bases. Last year, she blew them all out at super low prices. She stated that she was getting rid of the last of them. Everyone jumped on them and they were quickly bought up. She first sold them as kits with the wire, brass shell and plastic base.....Then later she finished out with just the plastic bases. As far as what color is the best....That is a personal preference thing. The bubble lights are the star....and the base is just the way to display them....so the color, should be something that will fit into your own personal decorating scheme. I bought the red and green as they are typical Christmas colors and the colors that they originally came in. later I got the gold and silver flake, plus the red, green, silver flake, orange, black and several others. Your problem is....Not what color is best....but where will you find one for sale. You better just take whatever comes along. LOL

Cleaning out her house in 2019 when she passed away, I found a box of these lamps. My sisters thought I was crazy to keep them but I love nostaligia. My box is the original box, it looks like and I have 9 Nooma Biscuit (I think you called it) however, mine aren't crimped. I also have one of the Royal Crowns in yellow and yes, I have a small break at the top base. I also have another kind that looks kind of warped and I don't see it in one of your videos but I'll take another look and see. I do not have a cord or anything to plug them in with. What can I use? You can send me a picture of your bubblers to c6lites@gmail.com and then we can get you set up with the correct strand. If you truly have Noma biscuits they are C6 series lights and all bulbs will have to work on the strand, in order for them to light. I have always assumed this base is from Noma, but I just went thru may catalogs of Christmas Light companies and it actually looks like Paramount used this base on several of their trees. If you are asking about Make And Model as if you intend to go shopping on Ebay for one. All you really need to look for is Bubble Light Tree. Most seller's have no clue as to who the maker is....unless they have the original box. There were only about 4 companies that sold bubble light trees. Noma and their lesser company Glolite, plus Paramount/Raylite and lastly Royal. They came in 9 light, 17-18 light and 20-21 light varieties. There is a super rare 24 light tree that many of us believe was only made as a Prototype tree that was given to stores in 1943ish to test market the 1st Noma prototype bubble lights that were only released to see if they would be a success. Noma sold out of the prototypes that they had made, in Chicago, in just one hour. i think that was in '43.

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 7 месяцев назад

      Ok, Now I have looked at the catalogs a bit more and see that Noma did use this base for perhaps one year.....And the plug on my tree says Noma!!! So there's the correct answer, LOL

You have a lot of great footage of that type of lighting in your video and was wondering if you had other stills of that same type of lighting that didn’t make your video? Would love to see those sometime. Thanks again for your interesting and informative videos!

      A few folks have made reproduction Oil tubes, that you can put in your own base. Christopher Radko remade the Paramount bubble light bases about 15 years ago so many folks will put a new oil tube into a Radko base to create their own Paramount oil bubble light. There is a new person that is claiming to make oil bubble lights, who sells them on Etsy right now. I think each bubble light is about $50 each?? You can email me if you are interested and I will try to direct you. We have a pair of fellas that make oil tubes on my facebook page. So you can join the page and try to reach out to both creators. facebook.com/groups/475901481145293 please be sure to answer all entrance questions.

    What’s the name of the stands

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 7 месяцев назад

      The C6 marbled base is made by Royal from teh 1950's normally called a Royal Bubble light Candolier sometimes battleship. The red one is a Christhopher Radko Bubble Brite or light candolier from the 2000's

      @@savingsoul That's fine as long as you only want a C7 stand. Most collectors want to display their C6 bubble lights. There is a fella on my facebook Xmas Lighting page that changed the sockets and wiring in a Radko C7 and it looks good, but he took the long and jerry rigged way of doing it, but it looks ok. Us purists are more interested in doing things the solid and correct way. In his credit...he was afraid of having to solder, so he did the best he could do. LOL It does look good though. Here's my facebook page if you are interested in collecting Xmas lighting items.. We have a big bunch of dweebs there. LOL facebook.com/groups/475901481145293

    Hi Scott, Factory Direct Craft usually has different sizes in pine rope garland.

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 7 месяцев назад

      I wasn't aware that they had gotten some in to sell. Most of what they have is not the right size though. Much of what they are offering is MINI which is meant for making decorations in dollhouses. If you get that size stuff to redo a bubble light tree it will look really bad and won't be to scale. They have one that they claim is 3/4" across, but I think they may have their measurements wrong as it also looks like the dollhouse size. I went down this path of trying to find the correct width of needles and ended up sending most of it back as it was the tiny dollhouse size stuff and they give the wrong size in their description. Also price is a HUGE deterrent. I see one that may be the correct size, but In order to use that stuff, it is $5 each and you may need up to 20 of them to do a 9 light tree. That's $100 just to get the greenery, plus shipping. God forbid, if you need to regreen and 17 , 18 or 21 light tree.....it will cost more than the tree is worth. In this video, the greenery is only about $20 for one 9 foot piece of the garland, and I got the entire 9 light tree done with about a foot and a half of the garland still left. So again,be careful when buying from Factory Direct....Be sure of the size you are getting and make sure you will be able to return for free.

    New collector here, i will need a C6 stringer to use vintage bubble lites? Should be easy enough to acquire on ebay?

    • @c6lites
      @c6lites 7 месяцев назад

      Yes, You can normally get C6 strands on ebay rather easily. You may want to keep in mind that the best strands are the 9 light Straight-Line strands. They are not in a loop arrangement, but they run out in a straight line. They also come with 9 sockets as opposed to the normal 8 socket sets that are normally the loop construction. I just sold a Straight-Line set on my Facebook pages market page. You may want to join my facebook page and the market page to align yourself with a group of Vintage Christmas Lighting Dweebs!!! LOL it can be found here... please be sure to answer all entrance questions....facebook.com/groups/475901481145293 if you just want 8 socket loop sets....I have a bunch of them for sale on our market page at much cheaper prices than you will get on Ebay
